WDYT of these Augustine combos?

Hi berries!

Been toying around with Augustine for a while, fell out of love with my old combo and am looking for something new. Been really liking some more unusual two-syllable Bible names between Augustine and the family name I’ll use for the second middle (probably Jack, James, or Grey).

Would love your thoughts on these combos, and suggestions for others you think I might like! Doesn’t have to be a Bible name either, that’s just what I was toying with tonight.

Augustine Caleb Grey (or James)
Augustine Jethro Grey
Augustine Jonas Grey
Augustine Leon Grey (or James)
Augustine Reuel Grey (or James)
Augustine Tristan Grey (not Biblical, but I like it!)
Augustine Zimri James (or Grey)

Really liked the Russian Ruvim (Augustine Ruvim Grey) in theory but don’t love how it sounds with how I say Augustine (awg us teen).

Thanks, berries!

Ooh, some great options!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] → ooh, this has a handsome, charming vibe, something a little 19th-century-literaure about it! I definitely prefer [name_m]Grey[/name_m] here

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] → this feels very cool [name_f][/name_f]- arty but with an edge. I think [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] would also sound good (or [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] / [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- but those might be more of an acquired taste )

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] → friendly and solid

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Leon[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] → I like the international edge this has. I think [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] would also sound good.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Reuel[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] → I’m intrigued by [name_m]Reuel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- do you say it as ROOL, ROO-el, or ROO-uhl? or something else? [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Reuel[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] is making me think of [name_m]Earl[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] [name_f]Tea[/name_f] a little? and I find it a little hard to say together, but [name_m]Reuel[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] isn’t shining either. [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Reuel[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] maybe [name_f][/name_f]- but then [name_m]Grey[/name_m] sounds good with [name_m]Augustine[/name_m]?

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] → I lovvvve [name_m]Tristan[/name_m], though I’m stumbling a bit on the -st- and -n- sounds all together. But [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] is so charming [name_f][/name_f]- maybe for a different first? (this is not helping is it )

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Zimri[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] → zippy and unexpected! I like it

[name_f][/name_f]

A few suggestions:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] (LOO-ee)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Rory[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Lyall[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Sholto[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Hillel[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Tiras[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Moshe[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m]

Thank you everyone!

[name_f][/name_f]

@daisydarcy[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- thanks girl! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] has potential—love [name_m]Les[/name_m] Mis (the novel more than the play or film, but anyway), and always liked [name_m]Marius[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] almost feels TOO grand though?

[name_f][/name_f]

@Greyblue[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- thanks girl! [name_f][/name_f] I think [name_m]Jethro[/name_m], [name_m]Zimri[/name_m], and [name_m]Reuel[/name_m] are my favorites right now, I say [name_m]Reuel[/name_m] like roo-ELL. [name_f][/name_f] Like the tie to [name_m]Tolkien[/name_m] a lot, but also Reuel’s meaning! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Zimri[/name_m] is zippy and fun and [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] feels jazzy to me. [name_f][/name_f] I do like [name_m]Leon[/name_m] though and have been thinking about finding him a home for a while (same with Tristan… I guess [name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] probably would’ve worked better? [name_f][/name_f] But I like [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] loads better than just August). [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Hillel[/name_m] is interesting and I’ve considered it before; I’ve strayed from it because I get the impression it has extra Jewish significance, but I don’t know that for sure. [name_f][/name_f] Sort of unrelated to [name_m]Augustine[/name_m], but maybe [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Tristan[/name_m]?

Augustine is a nice name. Of your combos, my favourites are Augustine Leon Grey and Augustine Reuel Grey.

Leon and Reuel are both serious, slightly under-the-radar names, so in that sense they match Augustine. But they also have fluid vowel sounds that balance out the clunkiness of Augustine (and, to a lesser extent, Grey).

Some combos I made -

Augustine Eliezer Grey
Augustine Elias Grey
Augustine Samuel Grey

Augustine Raphael James
Augustine Ian James

(By the way: how do you personally say Augustine? I looked it up and apparently it can end in ‘teen’ or ‘tin’, I can also imagine somebody ending it with ‘tien’.)

oooh I like that a lot! Balanced and interesting!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] does flow better [name_f][/name_f]- but [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] feels way more you!

Thank you, lovelies!

@vida - oh thank you! I’m glad you like them! I’m really loving the idea of Reuel (especially the nod to Tolkien!) and Zimri, I’ve also tried Augustine Asaph James but it wasn’t sticking so I’m looking at other options. I actually didn’t love the double J, that’s why I listed Grey with Jethro and Jonas, haha. Sometimes I do, but this time it wasn’t doing ti for me. I love Leon though too and Augustine Leon Grey/James/Jack is very cool imo. I love Shiloh, Boaz, Levi, Ephraim, and Ansel, though I have Shiloh, Boaz, and Ansel elsewhere on my list, and I don’t love the vibes I get from Augustine Ephraim for some reason. Augustine Levi might have potential; I tried Levi with Soren but he didn’t stick long-term, I’ll have to think about Augustine with him though!

@GinnyPotter - thank you! I really like Raphael and Eliezer, but for some reason they don’t click with Augustine for me. And I say it with the -teen ending!

@greyblue - I am giving some serious thought to Bartholomew Tristan lol. I have been trying Bartholomew Ansel Jack but it’s just not sticking the way I thought it would. I was thinking of reverting back to Leon, Christian, or Arlo as potential options, but Bartholomew Arlo is not the easiest to say. I do like Bartholomew Christian… but I wonder if it’s too Christian. I’m not the most massive fan of Christian as a name, either, but I do like it with Bartholomew. But Bartholomew Tristan has similar vibes to Bartholomew Christian for me, and is a name I’ve been wanting to find a spot for on my list. I’m still thinking about it… but he does have some serious potential! ETA: after falling for Augustine, I don’t think I could ever go back to just August lol.

I want [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Arlo[/name_m] to work because I like the balance but it is a bit tongue-twistery (plus a bit of me likes [name_m]Arlo[/name_m] as a nickname to [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] :person_shrugging:[name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Christian[/name_m] is a bit heavy for me but I can see the appeal in terms of sound and grandeur [name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- so [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] is just right (in my opinion, I may be a bit biased towards Tristan)

[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]

I would be very surprised to see you have [name_m]August[/name_m] over [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] on your list!!

I know, I like [name_m]Arlo[/name_m] because it would honor my grandma and I like [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Arlo[/name_m] visually, but not out loud lol. [name_f][/name_f] I always liked the idea of a swashbuckling hero like from a [name_m]Dumas[/name_m] novel or a spirited teenage [name_f]British[/name_f] boy aboard a ship fighting pirates… and like that [name_m]Arlo[/name_m] enhances that vibe for me. [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Christian[/name_m] doesn’t, really. [name_f][/name_f] :joy::joy::joy:[name_f][/name_f]. Could [name_m]Tristan[/name_m]? [name_f][/name_f] Maybe [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]? [name_f][/name_f] Trying to think of a family name that would work with [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] lol. [name_f][/name_f] I have thought about [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] too but I don’t love having more than one Bible name (especially if they’re rare) in one combo.

Oooh I like that too - Jack gives me that ‘spirited teenage boy’ vibe while Tristan is part hero, part cool boy, but also a total little gentleman - and that comes together well with Bartholomew (again, I may be biased as the Tristan i knew was such a gentle soul!)

but then vibe wise, Caleb fits that too
