Which mn looks/sounds/flows the best? I love all of them.
Nightshade [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] Pro: Also not common and sounds pretty [name_u]Con[/name_u]: [name_f]May[/name_f] be pronouced as [name_u]Jess[/name_u]-uh-mine. I pronouce it [name_u]Jess[/name_u]-uh-meen
Nightshade [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] Pro: Much more uncommon here than the “[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]” spelling [name_u]Con[/name_u]: [name_f]May[/name_f] be pronounced like “[name_m]Math[/name_m]-ilda”
Nightshade [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] Pro: [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name and the PJO associations, as well as the Greek mythology associations~ [name_u]Con[/name_u]: Some pronounce it like “[name_f]Talia[/name_f]”
Nightshade [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] Pro: Very pretty [name_u]Con[/name_u]: [name_m]Way[/name_m] too trendy for my taste, even with the unusual first name
Nightshade [name_f]El[/name_f]żbieta Pro: Uncommon, exotic, very pretty looking [name_u]Con[/name_u]: [name_f]May[/name_f] be pronounced wrong.
Nightshade [name_f]Mallory[/name_f]: Pro: Sounds very pretty [name_u]Con[/name_u]: Wayyyy too dark of a meaning.
Nightshade [name_u]River[/name_u]: Pro: Flows well [name_u]Con[/name_u]: Sounds like an actual river
Also
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] Nightshade Pro: Not common [name_u]Con[/name_u]: Looks like “[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]” and I like [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], but… Too common for my tastes currently
[name_f]Judith[/name_f] Nightshade: Pro: [name_u]Love[/name_u] the -Ith sounds [name_u]Con[/name_u]: [name_f]May[/name_f] be a bit dated
I’m not sure that Nightshade is a positive name to give a child. Although there are many plants in that family, most people are going to connect it to the poisonous variety! Not a nice connotation to be stuck with…
However, from your list, I think [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] is the nicest.
[name_u]LOVE[/name_u]:
Nightshade [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] - I don’t think [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] looks very trendy in the middle spot. It just simply looks very beautiful and like you love the name. With Nightshade, it’s obvious to everyone that you aren’t into trends.
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] Nightshade - I really love Nightshade in the middle spot here. [name_f]Elda[/name_f] is significantly different than [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], and [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] isn’t a popular name for babies right now, despite how notorious the name has become.
LIKE:
Nightshade [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] - just a lovely flow and sound. It is very dark, but that just seems like the tone you’re going for.
Nightshade [name_f]El[/name_f]żbieta - it’s like an ancient spell. It’s really cool. A true gothic beauty - great naming!!
Nightshade [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] - it’s beautiful and strong. I wouldn’t worry about pronunciation. It’s easily corrected.
DISLIKE:
Nightshade [name_u]River[/name_u] - too wordy, seems masculine to me.
Nightshade [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] - looks too botanical, like you’re listing plants.
Nightshade [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] - too many hard consonants, looks like a character (no one would pronounce it as [name_m]Math[/name_m]-ilda, though)
[name_f]Judith[/name_f] Nightshade - there are better “th” names
My favourite would be [name_f]Judith[/name_f] Nightshade.
I’m not sure I like the name Nightshade… It sound cool but to me doesn’t sound like a name. I like [name_m]Night[/name_m], perhaps you could use [name_m]Night[/name_m] as a nickname… I feel that would make it more wearable in some places. I think [name_f]Elda[/name_f], [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] and [name_u]River[/name_u] are lovely as well.
I don’t want to be rude, that’s honestly not my intention. But, Nightshade is the type of ‘name’ I have previously encountered in poorly written [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Sue[/name_f] (fan)fiction. Beyond that, I imagine Nightshade as the type of choice that a brooding teenage goth might choose for themselves. In short, it’s not something that I personally see as a professional or charming choice, as a first name. Admittedly, it’s not the worst name, as at the very least I can say that it’s spelled properly and easy to pronounce, but I don’t see it as being that appropriate overall, especially with the well-known ‘Deadly Nightshade’ reference. And given the fact that, phonetically speaking, it gives little indication of being masculine or feminine, I’d personally prefer it as a middle name. [name_f]Elda[/name_f] Nightshade in particular seems quite nice, as while [name_f]Elda[/name_f] is similar to [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], it has a stronger sound and is much more unusual and elegant in comparison to [name_f]Judith[/name_f], in my opinion at least.
Again, I don’t mean to offend and if I have, then I apologise. But, while I am a lover of unique and unusual name choices, Nightshade, as a first name, comes across as a bit too much and a little too try-hard for my tastes.
I wasn’t exactly looking for opinions on my name tastes, just on the sound with the other names. Also, I’m fairly certain that Nightshade [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is much better of a name than [name_f]Ebony[/name_f] Dark’ness Dementia [name_u]Raven[/name_u] [name_m]Way[/name_m] or [name_f]Tulip[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Pentagon Dragon
And I don’t appreciate the “bad Fanfiction” associations.
Also, I actually find Nightshade to be a much better name than my sister’s potential choice of [name_m]Kristof[/name_m]. “It’s my ancestor’s name and plus, it sounds like piss off!” No, seriously. That’s why she’s wanting to name her son that.
I would reeeeally recommend putting Nightshade in the middle name spot. It’s still a little iffy, imo. [name_f]Elda[/name_f] Nightshade is my favorite of those options. I also like the names [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f].
