WDYT of these crushes?

I’ve really been crushing on these names lately, and I’m seriously considering adding them to my list. WDYT of them?

[name]Serena[/name]. Can [name]Wren[/name] work as a nn? I’ve been tossing around [name]Serena[/name] [name]Ruby[/name].

[name]Eliska[/name]. I have had a massive crush on this Czech [name]Elizabeth[/name] diminutive for years now. I love it’s unexpected, European flair and its softer, sweeter appeal. Is [name]Eliska[/name] too out-there? [name]Do[/name] you think pronunciation would be a problem? I believe the proper pronunciation is eh-LEESH-kah but I’ve always liked eh-LISS-kah. [name]Do[/name] you think people would naturally lean toward eh-LISS-kah? I like [name]Eliska[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name].

[name]Magda[/name]. I like [name]Magda[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] as a combo.

Thanks, ladies!

I only like [name]Magda[/name] as a nn, and [name]Serena[/name] is beautiful but the two e’s being prn differently bugs me, which leaves [name]Eliska[/name] (which I also prn el-LISS-kah) and I love it. It probably is “out there,” but I have a hard time recognizing those kinds of names. To me, a rare beauty like [name]Eliska[/name] is too pretty to be “too out there.” I like [name]Eliska[/name] [name]Belle[/name].

I dont like [name]Serena[/name], and I dont think [name]Wren[/name] really fits it. I like [name]Eliska[/name], and I’m also reading it with liss instead leesh. I do like [name]Magda[/name], quite a lot, also.

[name]Eliska[/name] [name]Belle[/name] is pretty! I can’t help but think it sounds really close to [name]Isabelle[/name], though… Which isn’t a bad thing, haha, it’s my favorite girls’ name, but on the off chance that I ever use [name]Eliska[/name] and [name]Isabelle[/name] together, I think [name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Eliska[/name] [name]Belle[/name] are too close, haha.

[name]Serena[/name] – I think [name]Wren[/name] could definitely work! [name]Serena[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] is beautiful. I don’t like [name]Serena[/name] due to personal associations, but it is a lovely name.

[name]Eliska[/name] – I really dislike the eh-LISS-kah pronunciation, but I adore the eh-LEESH-kah pronunciation! I think it’s beautiful, but it would be mispronounced  [name]How[/name] about Elishka?

[name]Magda[/name] – I prefer it as a nickname for [name]Magdalena[/name], but it’s a beautiful name! I’m not too fond of [name]Felicity[/name], but it pairs well with [name]Magda[/name]!

Nice list ash!! [name]Serena[/name] is gorgeous. [name]Love[/name] this one. Very melodic, classy, not too long, no Nn needed. I love felicity as well. Maybe as in the fn spot?

[name]Serena[/name] is very pretty, but I do prefer [name]Seren[/name]. [name]Serena[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] is beautiful but if I’m honest I’m not sure I see it working with your other favourite girls names. It seems a little more ‘exotic’ than [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Arianne[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] etc. I don’t see [name]Wren[/name] working as a nickname at all, well it could but it would take a lot of work from yourself as it isn’t an obvious nickname.

I like the sound of [name]Eliska[/name] but I did immediately go to pronounce it Eh-liss-kuh and not Eh-leesh-kuh but I do like both pronunciations. Again, I think its a little too different but would work as a really interesting middle name.

Madga seems very nicknamey so I would much prefer [name]Magdalena[/name] nn [name]Magda[/name]. I do think [name]Magdalena[/name] would fit best of the three on this list!

I really like [name]Eliska[/name] (eh-liss-kah), I’d actually add it to my list if my husband didn’t object to everything that isn’t found in the Top 100  I do prefer it more with a one-syllable middle name though, especially one that starts with the harder “b” sound.

[name]Serena[/name] is nice, but not my style…I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Magda[/name], so pretty…[name]Eliska[/name] is gorgeous, I could read it as [name]Leese[/name] or Liss or even [name]Lish[/name], but the name is so pretty that doesn’t even bother me!

[name]Serena[/name] / [name]Wren[/name] work fine- reminds me of [name]Sabine[/name], [name]Samara[/name], [name]Marina[/name], [name]Suri[/name], [name]Irena[/name]
[name]Magda[/name]- reminds me of [name]Marlene[/name], [name]Marlena[/name], [name]Agatha[/name]
[name]Eliska[/name]- reminds me of the Russian endearment of adding -ska to names, the pronunciation issue makes me think of [name]Alicia[/name]

Oh, I love this! There’s a Belarusian family that goes to my church, and the oldest daughter and her husband have a little girl whose name is [name]Milana[/name]… they call her [name]Milanka[/name] as a term of endearment… so cute. I’m not Russian/Eastern European at all, but I love learning about European culture and languages. I never put together why [name]Eliska[/name] might appeal to me, but I think that’s the reason!

@[name]Liz[/name]… lol, your username is way too long to type out all the time. [name]Serena[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] exotic? I can’t see it as exotic at all. [name]Serena[/name] is soft, sweet, and serene to me. I’ve also been considering [name]Serena[/name] [name]Kate[/name]/[name]Serena[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Kate[/name]/[name]Serena[/name] _____ [name]Kate[/name]… is that less exotic? Because there’s a reason most people wouldn’t say my favorites are exotic. I don’t want exotic, lol. I know [name]Magda[/name]/[name]Eliska[/name]/[name]Serena[/name] don’t exactly fit my usual favorites but in my little name break my style has been really changing! My full list right now is [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Arianne[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Eleni[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] (nn [name]Cara[/name] or [name]Lola[/name]), [name]Genevieve[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name] or maybe [name]Ginny[/name] or [name]Vivi[/name]), [name]Willa[/name], [name]Aurelia[/name]/[name]Aurelie[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Serena[/name], [name]Eliska[/name], [name]Magda[/name], [name]Bryony[/name], [name]Lenora[/name], [name]Amaya[/name], [name]Portia[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] (nn [name]Tilly[/name]), [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Thisbe[/name], and maybe even [name]Lydia[/name], so, yeah, it’s changing a little bit, haha. I think [name]Serena[/name], [name]Eliska[/name], and [name]Magda[/name] fit in fine with all of those. I have no clue what’s going to make the cut for my top 10 yet, but that’s the list I’m working with right now. Some will probably be MNs, I think.

@bellarina - [name]Felicity[/name] I love! I just don’t love it enough for a FN, haha. I do like it and I would love to meet a little [name]Felicity[/name]… as a FN it’s just not for me, though. I’m seriously considering [name]Magda[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Serena[/name] [name]Felicity[/name], though!

I’m glad everyone is more inclined to say it as eh-LISS-kah! I don’t mind eh-LEESH-kah or even eh-LEES-kah, but I just like eh-LISS-kah so much more!

Maybe exotic wasn’t the right word to use but the only 2 [name]Serena[/name]'s I’ve ever known have been from the Caribbean so therefore the name sounds exotic to me, lol. Otherwise the only one I can think of is [name]Serena[/name] [name]Williams[/name]! [name]Serena[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Kate[/name] does seem to fit but maybe it’s just that I’m not loving the name!

Wow, your list and style is definitely changing and I love seeing [name]Adele[/name], [name]Willa[/name], [name]Bryony[/name], [name]Lenora[/name], [name]Portia[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name]! Also, the more I see and say [name]Eliska[/name] the more I really like it =) It has also made me think about [name]Saskia[/name] again, as well as [name]Tatiana[/name] but not sure I could pull that one off on a future daughter!!

I love, love, love the name [name]Serena[/name]. It is sooo appealing and so pretty. [name]Wren[/name] would be pushing it as a nn, I think. What about [name]Rena[/name]?
[name]Eliska[/name] is pretty cool. I’ve never heard of this name, but I think it’s pretty.
[name]Magda[/name] is eh…not my style. I sounds kind of dumpy next to [name]Serena[/name] and [name]Eliska[/name].

@halfkoreangirl - I’m not a fan of [name]Rena[/name] at all, sorry. If I used a nn, it would probably be [name]Wren[/name].

The more I think about it, the more I think [name]Magda[/name] is my favorite of them all. She’s just so perfect, imo! Followed by [name]Eliska[/name]. If I drop any of them it’d probably be [name]Serena[/name]… I have a bunch of others to look at, though, so I’m not eliminating any yet. I’ve thought about using [name]Magdalena[/name], nn [name]Magda[/name], but honestly, that just feels like [name]Juliana[/name] nn [name]Julia[/name] to me. Usually I don’t like nns/pet forms as given names but I love just [name]Magda[/name]! I’m not sure about [name]Magda[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] anymore, though. I’m thinking maybe [name]Magda[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] or [name]Magda[/name] [name]Eve[/name]…

I don’t know why, but I love [name]Magda[/name] and I don’t really like [name]Magdalena[/name]- i guess [name]Magdalena[/name] just seems so long and dramatic and over-the-top while [name]Magda[/name] is just the right amount of drama

Well I guess I get to be the cold-water thrower here, but I’m really afraid that [name]Eliska[/name] would just get mis-heard as Alaska. :frowning:

Not a fan of [name]Magda[/name] either, unfortunately, though I adore [name]Magdalen[/name] and [name]Magdalena[/name].

[name]Serena[/name], now, that one is gorgeous. [name]Wren[/name] is a bit of a stretch but I maintain that if my friend can put [name]Henry[/name] on a birth certificate and announce that the kid’s name is Sparky then anything goes.

I adore [name]Serena[/name] and I can’t use it with my surname so it always makes me happy to see others liking it! Not a huge fan of it with [name]Ruby[/name] as [name]Ruby[/name] is so trendy here. To me, [name]Wren[/name] seems a major stretch as a nn, but it’s not impossible. [name]Eliska[/name] is cute and I would pronounce it as you like, but I would definitely expect an [name]Eliska[/name] to be of Eastern European descent. I really like [name]Magda[/name], and it’s lovely with [name]Felicity[/name], I just worry that [name]Magda[/name] is too nicknamey.

@caroline147 - [name]Ruby[/name] is definitely not set. I really like [name]Serena[/name] [name]Kate[/name], too, and there will be a second MN somewhere. I like [name]Ruby[/name] because my grandmother’s FN was [name]Ruth[/name] and my baby sister’s MN is [name]Ruth[/name], and my sister’s favorite color is red, so I figured it was a nice tribute to them both without actually using [name]Ruth[/name], which I really don’t like at all. I’m planning on adopting most (if not all) of my children so if I ever adopt from Eastern Europe I would be even more inclined to use [name]Eliska[/name]! I figured that was the only chance I’d get but I love [name]Eliska[/name] so much that I really don’t want to have to wait until I maybe adopt from Eastern Europe to use it, especially since I’m more likely to adopt domestically.

[name]Eli[/name]-sh-ka is very pretty, eli-s-ka is not as pretty, it’s a little harsh. SO if its elishka, I think spelling it that way would help avoid a lot of mispronunciations! Elishka is exotic and rolls of the tongue nicely.

I love [name]Serena[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]. I know a [name]Serena[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and I always thought she had such a lovely name. It’s so feminine. I think [name]Magda[/name] is pretty, but it feels like a nickname for [name]Magdalena[/name] rather than a full name to me. I’ve never heard of an Elishka before, but it definitely has a lovely sound.

And I think [name]Wren[/name] could work as a nickname for [name]Serena[/name]. (But then again I want to make [name]Lola[/name] a nickname for [name]Charlotte[/name] hahaha)

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Eliska[/name] I can’t make up my mind about [name]Serena[/name], and i’m really not keen on [name]Magda[/name].
