WDYT of these - too weird?

Some slightly offbeat names from my list. Wondering if they’re just the right amount of quirky, or too weird, and if they’re usable. Not pregnant or TTC, just collecting

[name]Agnes[/name] - I think it’s adorable but don’t know if I’d have the guts!
[name]Avis[/name] - I love that it’s familiar sounding but virtually unused, and the meaning (I love birds). Iffy on [name]Mavis[/name] as an alternative.
[name]Edith[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - I like pretty much anything that ends in -ith, but is it unattractive?
[name]Helen[/name] - Liked this forever, but is the “hell” syllable awkward?
[name]Leona[/name] ([name]Leo[/name]) - [name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Leonie[/name]/[name]Leontine[/name] at all. I think a girl nicknamed [name]Leo[/name] would be sweet, don’t hate me! Too old-lady?
[name]Lilith[/name] - Has some unfortunate meanings, but I still like it. Also, [name]Lilith[/name] or [name]Lillith[/name] (with 2 l’s, would honor a [name]Lillie[/name] in my family tree)?
[name]Mabel[/name] ([name]Mae[/name]) - People either love it or hate it, I love it!
[name]Tallulah[/name] - [name]OTT[/name]?
[name]Zelda[/name] - Newest on my list, I love it! It’s so zippy and fun. The video game connection doesn’t bother me, but is it too old?

WDYT?

I [name]Love[/name] [name]Agnes[/name]- i also think itll take a brave person to use it! Can seem a bit too old lady for some ppls taste
[name]Avis[/name] is a company in Australia- I had to can my fav boy name [name]Cole[/name] for a similar reason- example" Can you get [name]Cole[/name]'s jacket" sounds just like im talking about the very large supermarket chain Coles.
[name]Edith[/name] is cute and love nn [name]Edie[/name]- i dont think its unattractive.
I like [name]Helen[/name] but prefer [name]Helena[/name] or even [name]Elena[/name]. Never thought about the hell in the name…
[name]Leona[/name] nms but [name]Leo[/name] is a cute nn, never heard of the name b4 so dosnt sound old to me.
[name]Lilith[/name]- woudlnt use it because of its meaning
[name]Mabel[/name]- so cute! nn [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Bel[/name], can seem a little old ladyish but since i know of no one named this it seemed nice and flowery.
[name]Tallulah[/name]- nms-
[name]Zelda[/name] i love and would use it myself except my partner wont get over the character association… i dont think its old at all :frowning:

[name]Agnes[/name] - Aw, man, I don’t think [name]Agnes[/name] needs that much guts. It’s one of those names that I feel seems old-ladyish at first, but the second it’s used on a little girl, it immediately becomes clear just how cute it is.

[name]Avis[/name] - It’s too strongly tied to the car-rental company for me. I don’t dig [name]Mavis[/name], and I don’t quite know why, though I suspect it has something to do with the ‘v’, as I do like [name]Maris[/name].

[name]Edith[/name] “[name]Edie[/name]” - I don’t think it’s unattractive, especially with that nickname. [name]Even[/name] people who might turn up their noses at the fusty sound of [name]Edith[/name] can probably get behind [name]Edie[/name]. (I like a few names ending in -ith, too, and have recently gotten into [name]Tanith[/name] and [name]Ardith[/name] - they’re new discoveries for me, so I figured I’d throw them at you if you dig that ending as well. :))

[name]Helen[/name] - [name]Helen[/name] is great, and I don’t even think about the “hell” thing.

[name]Leona[/name] - [name]Leona[/name] makes me think of a restaurant called [name]Leona[/name]'s that’s in my area, but it’s not an overwhelming association, and it’s pretty local. I think the nn [name]Leo[/name] would be pretty rad on a girl. If you’re looking for other [name]Leo[/name]- names, maybe [name]Leocadia[/name] or [name]Leora[/name]?

[name]Lilith[/name] - I don’t find the associations unfortunate at all. She was turned into a demon and vilified in mythology because she didn’t submit to some dude? Whatever. I love the sound of it, too.

[name]Mabel[/name] - Actually, I think I’ve found some sort of middle ground with [name]Mabel[/name]: I tolerate it! It makes me think of maple syrup.

[name]Tallulah[/name] - I don’t think it’s over the top at all. Kind of whimsical, sure. Crazy? Nah. Not my style, but I think it’s cool when others use it.

[name]Zelda[/name] - Outside of the video game associations, [name]Zelda[/name] is totally this '20s flapper name (hello, apparently the only other thing I can think about here is [name]Zelda[/name] [name]Fitzgerald[/name]). I know it was 90 years ago, but that decade has a much more modern feel to it for me than, say, the 1950s. [name]Zelda[/name] harks back to a time gone past that’s full of youth and energy (and, all right, getting drunk in speakeasies); it’s old, maybe, but it isn’t staid and stoic.

I don’t think any of them are too weird! I especially like [name]Agnes[/name], [name]Edith[/name], [name]Helen[/name], [name]Leona[/name], [name]Lilith[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name]. [name]Even[/name] the names I didn’t choose as favourites ([name]Avis[/name], [name]Tallulah[/name] and [name]Zelda[/name]) are still very wearable.

[name]Agnes[/name] - I like related [name]Ines[/name] a bit more. [name]Agatha[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name] are both brave choices though, and I can see the appeal.
[name]Avis[/name] - Sorry I can’t.
[name]Edith[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - Gosh, I love “th” and love [name]Lilith[/name], [name]Judith[/name], [name]Elspeth[/name], etc. but I don’t think I can get on board with [name]Edith[/name].
[name]Helen[/name] - A bit dry and dusty to me. The “hell” thing is fine. I prefer [name]Helena[/name] (hell-ee-na) though.
[name]Leona[/name] ([name]Leo[/name]) - Prefer [name]Leora[/name] or [name]Leocadia[/name] or [name]Leontine[/name].
[name]Lilith[/name] - I adore it and the imagery of her as the first woman. But if the connotations bother you, [name]Lilibeth[/name] is just an innocent nickname of saintly [name]Elizabeth[/name], and [name]Lillian[/name] is a Victorian revival.
[name]Mabel[/name] ([name]Mae[/name]) - I like it but prefer [name]Maybelle[/name].
[name]Tallulah[/name] - A bit frilly, but workable. Could be a fun way to [name]Tillie[/name] less popular than the locally-to-me-very-overused [name]Matilda[/name].
[name]Zelda[/name] - Less old to my ear than [name]Helen[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name]. I really love [name]Zelda[/name].

[name]Agnes[/name] - I’m slowing starting to tolerate this name; mainly because I love the Catholic saint, but if I ever used it, it would be as a middle name.
[name]Avis[/name] - Cute, but I think [name]Mavis[/name] is much more fuller and richer.
[name]Edith[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - This isn’t really my style of name, but I can see why it appeals.
[name]Helen[/name] - Classic, you can’t go wrong with it; but I really do like [name]Helena[/name] better.
[name]Leona[/name] ([name]Leo[/name]) - Completely not my style. I think its usable though, but for me, [name]Leo[/name] is team blue 100%.
[name]Lilith[/name] - This spelling, and while it’s cute, I prefer the sound of [name]Lilac[/name] much more.
[name]Mabel[/name] ([name]Mae[/name]) - I can see this being in a sibset with [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Fern[/name], [name]Ruth[/name], etc. Cute for a little girl, not sure if it’ll seem too cutesy in the career world.
[name]Tallulah[/name] - I actually like this, but mainly because I like [name]Tally[/name] as a nickname. I think with a strong classic name in the middle, it’s fine.
[name]Zelda[/name] - I’m not a fan, I like [name]Zella[/name] better.

I love weird.

Your names rock. They’re a mix of funky/nerdy/old-fashioned. The only one I don’t like is [name]Tallulah[/name]–but that’s simply my personal taste.

My favorites are [name]Leona[/name] and [name]Zelda[/name]!

I only like [name]Tallulah[/name] and [name]Helen[/name] and [name]Leona[/name] to some degree. The rest I’m no fan of.

[name]Leo[/name] would just be a nickname  But omgosh, thank you for reminding me how much I love [name]Ruth[/name]! I totally forgot about her!

All usable apart from Tullulah. Too much Bugsy [name]Malone[/name] for me!

[name]Agnes[/name] - Feels very buttoned-up to me, but a nice solid name nonetheless!
[name]Avis[/name] - NMS, but I think it’s useable.
[name]Edith[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - I love nn [name]Edie[/name], but [name]Edith[/name] is a little clunky. See [name]Agnes[/name].
[name]Helen[/name] - Not awkward to me in the least. Very classic and wholesome sounding.
[name]Leona[/name] ([name]Leo[/name]) - I prefer [name]Leonie[/name], but it’s still nice.
[name]Lilith[/name] - Like.
[name]Mabel[/name] ([name]Mae[/name]) - [name]LOVE[/name].
[name]Tallulah[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Tallulah[/name] with nn [name]Lulu[/name]. [name]One[/name] of those names you cannot say without smiling.
[name]Zelda[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]. I think of [name]Zelda[/name] [name]Fitzgerald[/name] before the video game.

So clearly [name]Zelda[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] are my favorites. [name]Tallulah[/name] comes in third. I don’t think any are too weird.

I’m not as fond of vintage names as you are, but I still like some of these quite a bit.

[name]Agnes[/name] - I just don’t really like the sound of this, like a combination of Ack! and [name]Loch[/name] Ness
[name]Avis[/name] - I love this one actually. I think it’s beautiful. And I like [name]Mavis[/name] as well.
[name]Edith[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - I just know far too many women with this name, all of whom are in their 90’s. And I don’t like the [name]Ed[/name] beginning.
[name]Helen[/name] - I like [name]Helena[/name] a lot actually, but I also am held back from loving it by the “hell”. I like it, but wouldn’t use it.
[name]Leona[/name] ([name]Leo[/name]) - I’ve never met a single person with this name so it doesn’t feel old lady to me. It’s pretty. I love [name]Leo[/name] on a boy. You might have convinced me to put it on my long list. I do like it quite a lot.
[name]Lilith[/name] - I agree about the unfortunate meaning, but I just can’t keep myself from loving it. It’s so beautiful. I think [name]Lillith[/name] would be a good option to honor family.
[name]Mabel[/name] ([name]Mae[/name]) - This one’s up there with [name]Edith[/name] for me, though I do find the sound more pleasant. Too maybelline perhaps. Actually I could probably get behind [name]Maybelle[/name] faster than [name]Mabel[/name].
[name]Tallulah[/name] - sorry, this is on my ‘hate’ list. [name]Just[/name] really, really don’t like it. It sounds like gobbledegook to me. Like you have rocks in your mouth.
[name]Zelda[/name] - I like a lot of Z names and I don’t hate this one. It just reminds me of [name]Sabrina[/name] the teenage witch, lol. I prefer [name]Zara[/name].

[name]Agnes[/name] - love it! It’s by far my favorite vintage name out there. [name]Way[/name] too vintage for most people, but I love it. I especially love the French prn. (ahn-YESS), and the option of [name]Annie[/name] for a nn (I honestly don’t see the appeal in [name]Aggie[/name]–it just reminds me of the term “old hag”!). I am also madly in love with the idea of [name]Agnes[/name] and [name]Edith[/name] as sisters–I think that would be beyond adorable!

[name]Avis[/name] - meh, it’s okay, but it doesn’t wow me. It sort of comes across (to me, at least) as if you liked [name]Ava[/name] but hated the popularity, so you came up with this instead. I find [name]Ava[/name] (and some of the longer variants, like [name]Aveline[/name], Avelaine, Avelina, and [name]Aviana[/name]) so much more beautiful, personally.

[name]Edith[/name] - pretty much the only -ith name I love! I didn’t appreciate it when I first came across it, but I truly adore it now, and I think [name]Edie[/name] is adorable. Again, how cute is [name]Agnes[/name] and [name]Edith[/name]?! :]

[name]Helen[/name] - meh, I always want to add the “A” on the end! I think [name]Helena[/name] is gorgeous and so charming (especially with the mythology and [name]Shakespeare[/name] connections!), and I love the spunky-and-oh-so-charmingly-Greek [name]Eleni[/name], but the simple [name]Helen[/name] doesn’t really appeal to me. It still feels old-lady to me. Hopefully I can come around, because I love the [name]Helen[/name] name family!

[name]Leona[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Leona[/name], and I have no problem with [name]Leo[/name] as a nn (although I struggle to imagine a little girl with the name! It seems so rugged and boyish to me). I’m not a fan of unisex/boys’ names on girls at all, but I suppose I have a little thing for boyish nicknames on girls. Sometimes. I absolutely adore the nn [name]Leni[/name] for [name]Eleni[/name], which is on my own list, and I can appreciate [name]Charlotte[/name] with the nn [name]Charlie[/name] (alternatively, I quite hate the nn [name]Rory[/name] for [name]Aurora[/name]…). But I can dig [name]Leona[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name]. I’m sure if I met a cute little [name]Leona[/name] (or whatever) with the nn [name]Leo[/name], I’d love it.

[name]Lilith[/name] - I can’t quite get past the negative connotations, but that’s all that holds me back. I think it’s soft and intriguing and I love pretty much every other [name]Lily[/name] name.

[name]Mabel[/name] - and I’m one of those that pretty much hates it. I can appreciate [name]Mae[/name]. And [name]Belle[/name]. But I can’t see the appeal in [name]Mabel[/name] at all.

[name]Tallulah[/name] - I love [name]Tallulah[/name]! Such a fun name, imo. I love the nns [name]Tallie[/name] and [name]Lulu[/name] (I can leave [name]Lula[/name], though. :)). It might be a more serious consideration for me if my little sister wasn’t [name]Natalie[/name] nn [name]Tallie[/name]–it doesn’t really seem like a viable option as it’s so close to her own name. I even call her [name]Tallulah[/name] on occasion. But I would love to meet a little [name]Tallulah[/name], it’s so fun.

[name]Zelda[/name] - for the longest time, I couldn’t get past the video game, but I’ve really come to love [name]Zelda[/name]! I think I prefer it as a MN (I actually love the idea of [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Zelda[/name]!), but I do love the idea of meeting a little [name]Zelda[/name], it’s quite a fun name.

[name]Agnes[/name], [name]Edith[/name], [name]Tallulah[/name], and [name]Zelda[/name] are my favorites!

I’m also not a fan of vintage names – I’m more of a classic girl, but most of these straddle that line and really appeal to me. Or maybe you’ve just hit on the few vintage names that I didn’t realize I love!

[name]Agnes[/name] - This is a family name for me that I absolutely love. I love the possible nn of [name]Nessie[/name] of [name]Aggie[/name]. I would absolutely use this in a heartbeat if my cousin hadn’t already used it.
[name]Avis[/name] - I didn’t even know this was a name – all I think of is the car rental place. I don’t think I could get behind this. Actually, if I had to use it as a name, it sounds more masculine to me for some reason.
[name]Edith[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - [name]Love[/name]! Not unattractive at all!! This one goes over the line into vintage and doesn’t particularly appeal to me, but I would love to meet a little [name]Edith[/name].
[name]Helen[/name] - This one is all classic to me and I love it. I have a niece named [name]Helen[/name] (family name for [name]SIL[/name]) and honestly, I never thought of the “hell” connection. Weird, as many times as I’ve said it. I’m just so used to it as a name and I think others would be too.
[name]Leona[/name] ([name]Leo[/name]) - I’ve really been crushing on [name]Leona[/name] recently. Something about it I just love. I don’t think of it as old-lady at all. Sounds more fresh to me. Not a huge fan of the [name]Leo[/name] nn, but I feel like if I met her, I might be able to accept it easier than just talking about it in theory.
[name]Lilith[/name] - This is another one that’s very vintage and not my style, but I still love the sound of it. I’m not familiar with it’s meaning (meanings aren’t important to me), so I can’t speak to that. I prefer it with one “l” and I think that could still honor your [name]Lillie[/name]. The double “l” just looks excessive to me.
[name]Mabel[/name] ([name]Mae[/name]) - This is VERY vintage, so I shouldn’t really like it, but I happen to love it. I was a HUGE fan of Mad About You (tv show with [name]Helen[/name] [name]Hunt[/name] in the … 90s?) and they named their daughter [name]Mabel[/name] because her mother said the one thing they should remember is that “Mothers always bring extra love” and they made an acronym out of it and fell in love with it. And so did I.
[name]Tallulah[/name] - Yes, too over the top … but only just.
[name]Zelda[/name] - This one is way way over the top for me. I would definitely wonder what the parents were thinking if I saw this one.

[name]Agnes[/name] - [name]Love[/name].
[name]Avis[/name] - Not a fan, its a car rental company here.
[name]Edith[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - [name]Love[/name].
[name]Helen[/name] - I think its a classic, and I don’t think of the ‘hell’ syllable at all.
[name]Leona[/name] ([name]Leo[/name]) - I like the idea of a girl [name]Leo[/name], but I prefer [name]Leonie[/name].
[name]Lilith[/name] - Find it hard to say and hate the meanings, so could never bring myself to use it.
[name]Mabel[/name] ([name]Mae[/name]) - My MILs name, so it’s on our list. Prefer it pronounced mah-bel to may-bul, but it is more likely to be pronouced the latter where I live.
[name]Tallulah[/name] - It is [name]OTT[/name] but I still like it, I also like [name]Eulalie[/name].
[name]Zelda[/name] - Not a fan.

[name]Agnes[/name] - I love vintage names, but like you, I am not sure if I would have the guts to use [name]Agnes[/name]
I think [name]Avis[/name] is pretty too, but it is a the name of a Rent-a-car company :frowning: [name]Mavis[/name] would make a nice mn… I think I would put [name]Agnes[/name] in the mn spot too
I love [name]Edie[/name], a bit iffy on [name]Edith[/name], but I do love me some Dowton [name]Abbey[/name]!
No, I don’t care for [name]Helen[/name]. It’s too dull. I love [name]Helena[/name] though! I prefer Ha-lay-na to [name]Helen[/name]-ah, but I like [name]Helen[/name]-ah a lot better than just plain [name]Helen[/name].
[name]Leona[/name] is really cute and not too old lady. I have been contemplating putting [name]Leona[/name] on my list for a while. [name]Leo[/name] on a girl, however = :frowning:
I don’t like a lot of boy’s names on girls.
I love [name]Lilith[/name]!
[name]Mabel[/name] and [name]Mae[/name] are so sweet! I prefer [name]Mae[/name] cuz I like short, one syllable names a lot.
[name]Tallulah[/name]… and [name]Lula[/name] are awesome! I would use [name]Tallulah[/name], for sure
[name]Zelda[/name] is the only one on your list that I really do not like.

Not too weird at all! And definitely usable.

There are some real vintagey gems on your list, as well as some of my personal favourites. [name]Leona[/name] is a name that I will definitely consider using if I ever have a daughter (I also like [name]Leora[/name]), and I really like [name]Lillith[/name] and [name]Edith[/name] from your list as well.

[name]Love[/name] your style

[name]Agnes[/name] - I really like [name]Agnes[/name] though I admit I wouldn’t be brave enough to use it myself. I like the nn possibility of [name]Aggie[/name]
[name]Avis[/name] - I prefer [name]Mavis[/name] because [name]Avis[/name] to me reminds me of the car rental company. And I love M names.
[name]Edith[/name] - I don’t think [name]Edith[/name] is unattractive and I really like [name]Edie[/name]. Honestly I bet some people out there will think its unattractive along with [name]Agnes[/name] bc some people really are not into the old lady names. I am though!
[name]Helen[/name] - So classic I wouldn’t worry about the “hell”
[name]Leona[/name] - NMS
[name]Lilith[/name] - This just doesn’t flow off the tongue for me
[name]Mabel[/name] - I love it too!
[name]Tallulah[/name] - not a fan.
[name]Zelda[/name] - Can’t shake the video game association personally.

[name]Agnes[/name] - Eh. Neutral about this one. I slightly prefer [name]Inez[/name]/[name]Ines[/name].
[name]Avis[/name] - Pretty! I like it so much better than [name]Mavis[/name].
[name]Edith[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - Yes. It’s unattractive.
[name]Helen[/name] - Hmmm. [name]Kinda[/name] nice but very dated. I prefer the more romantic [name]Helena[/name].
[name]Leona[/name] ([name]Leo[/name]) - I’ve been slightly obsessed with the idea of a girl nicknamed [name]Leo[/name] recently! [name]Glad[/name] to see I’m not alone! And I’m with you–[name]Leona[/name] is much better than [name]Leonie[/name]. My favorite is [name]Leora[/name], though.
[name]Lilith[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Lilith[/name]. Sure, she’s been vilified, but if you think about it from a modern-day, feminist perspective, [name]Lilith[/name] was all right.
[name]Mabel[/name] ([name]Mae[/name]) - NMS at all.
[name]Tallulah[/name] - I adore [name]Tallulah[/name]. Huge GP name for me. Have you heard the song “[name]Tallulah[/name]” by Company of Thieves? It made me love the name even more.
[name]Zelda[/name] - I feel like it’s coming back in. Very chic. The only real setback is the video game association.

[name]Love[/name] them all! My favorite name is Talulah, it’s on my list. What about [name]Helena[/name]?

Good luck!!
