I’m usually very picky about word names, but there are a few I go back and forth on that I’m starting to properly consider as contenders for my list (disclaimer: I am not pregnant, nor TTC), but I’m still not entirely sold on them.
What are your thoughts on [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] and [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] (please, no ‘stripper name’ comments - those are really kind of silly, as any name could be a stripper name, really?)?
Also: What are some middle name suggestions for [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] and/or [name_f]Saffron[/name_f]? I tend to prefer classic, ‘boring’ middles, or trendy names in the middle spot (not misspelled or ‘kr8tive’ so to speak, but trendy as in [name_u]Darcey[/name_u], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], etc), and floral names.
I don’t like [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] personally, just because I have a bad association with it. It kind of strikes me as a little bit cheesy, but it’s not terrible. I think it ages well and it’s unusual without being completely unheard of.
I think [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] is absolutely lovely. It sounds elegant.
I’m not a huge fan of word names, there are a few I like (or don’t dislike) beyond [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], etc. such as [name_u]River[/name_u] or [name_m]Fox[/name_m] but both [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] and [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] are too wordy for me (but take this opinion with a grain of salt as word names are a no-go here and words like [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] just seem silly to my [name_m]German[/name_m] ears as why would I name a child after a spice?! <- German thoughts right there, not supposed to be a jab against anyone who like those names and to whom they actually sound like names).
I don’t like [name_u]Harmony[/name_u], but I do like [name_f]Saffron[/name_f]. Maybe it’s because [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_m]Burrows[/name_m] had all this awesome, badass image in a Bones episode… Anyway, I think it’s pretty cool!
I once had a [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] & a [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] in the same preschool class when I worked in the industry - the girls would be 11 or so now. Each name worked beautifully for each girl.
In terms of my own opinion, I love [name_f]Saffron[/name_f]. [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] is nice too, though I’m not as big a fan. Both would be nice on your list though.
I like [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] and think it’s a really sweet name. I can’t really get behind [name_f]Saffron[/name_f]. Besides the fact that I don’t find the sound appealing, It just feels too wordy and doesn’t sound like a name to me. [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] is well recognized as a name so imagining it on a child isn’t difficult, but with [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] I immediately associate it with the spice and have a hard time picturing calling a person [name_f]Saffron[/name_f].
I wouldn’t use [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] for a child personally but I don’t see why someone who loves it shouldnt. With names like [name_f]Honey[/name_f], Giner, [name_f]Cinnamon[/name_f], Etc I definetely see it working for someone who loves it. It is just not my style. [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] is pretty, and more familiar. I don’t see a problem with either name. I definetely didn’t think ‘stripper.’
I’m honestly not a big fan of either. Being a violinist, [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] only rings as a musical term and not a name. However, [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] does not immediately strike as musical word but instead as a name with a musical backstory. I’m not sure how the rest of the world feels about it.
For [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], I’m agreeing with the previous posters- It’s just a spice.
Thank you for the feedback everyone - I actually find it quite funny how many have said ‘[name_f]Saffron[/name_f] is just a spice’, when [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] is as popular on Nameberry as it is - if ‘[name_f]Saffron[/name_f] is just a spice’, I’d have thought [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] would be ‘just a flower’, but, maybe [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] has more to offer?
I’ve been considering Harmony for a girl recently. Then I wind up getting the Billy Idol song “Mony, Mony” in my head. But I think it’s very wearable. I like it as a musical term and synonym for amity. I think middle names that end in -ine like Sabine would pair well. Not a fan of Saffron because I don’t like the taste of it. It would be like someone naming their kid Dandelion in that way.
This was my thinking behind it too - especially since [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] is a) a flower and b) the most expensive spice in the world (I believe) and is likened to gold when it comes to spices - so I’d almost find it comparable to naming your child [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], etc, but, then again, maybe not.
I think she meant that it’s more known as a spice name than the word, but, [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] is a beautiful flower as well, and I’m still failing to see how it’s so drastically different? Oh well, to each their own!
@anyagreenwich - Thank you so much!! I really like your suggestions of [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], & [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]!
@vestigesofsummer - I love your suggestions of [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]!
