DH and I are expecting #1 in [name]March[/name]. Unsure of sex but this is the long list we are trying to whittle down. Suggestions based on taste are appreciated!! Last name is [name]Young[/name]. WDYT?

[name]Caroline[/name] nn CeCe
[name]Eloise[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] nn Francey
[name]Katarina[/name] nn [name]Nina[/name]
[name]Remington[/name] nn [name]Remy[/name]

[name]John[/name] nn [name]Jack[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name] nn [name]Holly[/name]
[name]Montgomery[/name] nn [name]Monty[/name]
[name]Robert[/name] nn [name]Rip[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name]
[name]Winthrop[/name] nn [name]Winnie[/name]
[name]Wolfgang[/name] nn Wolfie

Here are my opinions regarding your list. My favs are in bold. [name]Remember[/name] not too take my comments personally. [name]Honesty[/name] is the best policy!
[name]Amelia[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name] name that would brighten your surname [name]Young[/name] but it does seem like a tongue twister when said quickly
[name]Arden[/name] - Ok but nothing exciting
[name]Audrey[/name] - Vintage name with a youthful surname. This could work.
[name]Banning[/name] - Yuck!
[name]Bellamy[/name] - OK
[name]Blythe[/name] - Too short and abrupt with your surname. Avoid one syllables.
[name]Caroline[/name] nn CeCe - [name]Love[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] but it lacks something when paired with [name]Young[/name]
[name]Chandler[/name] - Yuck!
[name]Eloise[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it!
[name]Frances[/name] nn Francey - [name]Love[/name] this name but lacks zip. Better as a middle name.
[name]Hazel[/name] - see [name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] - Like it
[name]Holland[/name] - Not my style
[name]Janna[/name] - Too trendy
[name]Katarina[/name] nn [name]Nina[/name] - Exotic appeal. I love [name]Nina[/name] [name]Young[/name]!
[name]Kendall[/name] - See [name]Janna[/name]
[name]Leah[/name] - See [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] it!
[name]Ramona[/name] - OK
[name]Remington[/name] nn [name]Remy[/name] - Yuck!
[name]Susannah[/name] - Yes, this is nice!
[name]Tabitha[/name] - Thinking of a little blond girl who wiggles her nose! No, don’t do it!
[name]Violet[/name] - I like this name

[name]Asher[/name] - OK
[name]Baker[/name] - Yuck!
[name]Benjamin[/name] - Like this name but [name]Ben[/name] [name]Young[/name] sounds a tad boring
[name]Byron[/name] - Too soft
[name]Conrad[/name] - Strong choice for a boy.
[name]Dexter[/name] - OK but it makes me think of a serial killer
[name]John[/name] nn [name]Jack[/name] - Too boring with your surname
[name]Henry[/name] - See [name]John[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name] nn [name]Holly[/name] - Too feminine for a boy in my opinion
[name]Leo[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name. [name]Leo[/name] [name]Young[/name].
[name]Lucas[/name] - Too popular
[name]Magnus[/name] - I’m not crazy about this name
[name]Montgomery[/name] nn [name]Monty[/name] - Too snobby
[name]Parrish[/name] - Interesting choice. Hmmm. Wait a minute…[name]Parrish[/name] [name]Young[/name]… To die young! On second thought, not a good choice.
[name]Robert[/name] nn [name]Rip[/name] - Boring
[name]Soren[/name] - Too girly
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name] - OH yes. [name]LOVE[/name] it. [name]Theo[/name] [name]Young[/name] has a nice ring to it!!!
[name]Winthrop[/name] nn [name]Winnie[/name] - Too girly
[name]Wolfgang[/name] nn Wolfie - Makes me think of a mad genius composer or CNN’s [name]Wolf[/name] Blitzer and I’d rather not think of them. Definite teasing ahead if you choose this name!

Thank you for your reply! Not taken personally at all. We are not sold on any of these. It’s just an initial list. Thank you so much for your honesty! It is good to hear people’s initial reactions to get a good idea of how the name will be received, and to get a fresh perspective. Any other takers?

From your list, these are the ones I’d consider:

[name]Amelia[/name] - My favorite girl’s name, but it doesn’t flow well with the last name [name]Young[/name]. :frowning:
[name]Caroline[/name] nn CeCe - you could also use [name]Lola[/name] for this name.
[name]Frances[/name] nn Francey
[name]Helena[/name] - are you pronouncing this HEL-uh-nuh, or He-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh? I think the latter works better with your surname.
[name]Katarina[/name] nn [name]Nina[/name] - Cute!

[name]John[/name] nn [name]Jack[/name]
[name]Parrish[/name] - interesting, I kinda like it.
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name]
[name]Winthrop[/name] nn [name]Winnie[/name] - prefer [name]Winnie[/name] for a girl, but love [name]Win[/name] for a boy. Is this a family name? (It tends to sound pretentious; not in a bad way, in a “[name]Henry[/name] [name]Winthrop[/name], [name]Earl[/name] of [name]Devon[/name], called “[name]Winnie[/name]” by his friends,” kind of way.)

I’d vote for [name]Katarina[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name].

First of all let me just say, congratulations on your coming little one! What an exciting time of life! My thoughts on your list: (Please remember that these are just my opinions…)

[name]Amelia[/name] - for some reason I have a hard time saying [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Young[/name]. Maybe it’s just me though.
[name]Arden[/name] - Cute, but for some reason I’m not crazy about it with your last name.
[name]Audrey[/name] - This is pretty
[name]Banning[/name] - Not my style at all
[name]Bellamy[/name] - Ditto
[name]Blythe[/name] - Interesting name but rather abrupt with a one syllable ln in my opinion
[name]Caroline[/name] nn CeCe - [name]Lovely[/name]!
[name]Chandler[/name] - I love it! But only for a boy.
[name]Eloise[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name] - I like this one!
[name]Frances[/name] nn Francey - I’m not a fan of this name, but nothing wrong with it at all
[name]Hazel[/name] - I think I’m starting to like this one
[name]Helena[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it!!
[name]Holland[/name] - [name]Don[/name]'t care for this one
[name]Janna[/name] - cute, but kind of dated
[name]Katarina[/name] nn [name]Nina[/name] - Hmmm, I like very much!
[name]Kendall[/name] - eh, not so much

[name]Matilda[/name] - I know a lot of others like this, but personally I don’t care for it
[name]Ramona[/name] - ok

[name]Leo[/name] - Ooooh, I really like this one!!
[name]Lucas[/name] - handsome
[name]Magnus[/name] - uh, not so much
[name]Montgomery[/name] nn [name]Monty[/name] - I know a kid with this name…
[name]Parrish[/name] - [name]Don[/name]'t care for this at all & as a previous poster pointed out, [name]Parrish[/name] [name]Young[/name], sounds like ‘die young’.
[name]Robert[/name] nn [name]Rip[/name] - kinda blah, unless it’s a family name. I do like the unusual nn!
[name]Soren[/name] - Sounds a little girly to me
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name] - I’m really liking this one!
[name]Winthrop[/name] nn [name]Winnie[/name] - hmmm, not sure
[name]Wolfgang[/name] nn Wolfie - I don’t care for it

[name]Hope[/name] that’s of some help!

Thank you for the feedback! We are pronouncing [name]Helena[/name] “HEL-uh-nuh”, like A Midsummer [name]Night[/name]'s [name]Dream[/name] And yes, [name]Winthrop[/name] is a family name. Haha, I never thought of it as pretentious, but now that I hear it like that…glad you pointed it out!

We also like [name]Miriam[/name] for a girl and [name]Campbell[/name] and [name]Caleb[/name]. Thoughts? Open to other suggestions and mn suggestions too. Would prefer if St. [name]Clair[/name] or [name]Frances[/name] is in combo for girls as they are important family names.

Thanks in advance!

Okay, honest opinions!

[name]Amelia[/name]: I love [name]Amelia[/name], though it’s a bit too popular for me.

[name]Arden[/name]: Not a fan of surnames as first names, but this is one of the more tolerable for me.

[name]Audrey[/name]: I really like it, but again, it’s fairly popular.

[name]Banning[/name]: Is this a mistake?? [name]Banning[/name]? Seriously?

[name]Bellamy[/name]: I think it’s masculine sounding, and it has a trendy feel.

[name]Blythe[/name]: I’m not a huge fan (it sounds lispy to me) but there’s nothing wrong with it.

[name]Caroline[/name] nn CeCe: I love [name]Caroline[/name], and Cece is a nice creative nickname (especially with a C middle name).

[name]Chandler[/name]: Oh yuck, I don’t see the appeal. It means ‘candle stick maker’. Also, [name]Chandler[/name] [name]Bing[/name].

[name]Eloise[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name]: [name]Love[/name] it!! [name]Eloise[/name] is a new favorite of mine, and [name]Lola[/name] is a really nice nickname.

[name]Frances[/name] nn Francey: I love [name]Frances[/name].

[name]Hazel[/name]: [name]Hazel[/name] is great!

[name]Helena[/name]: I love [name]Helena[/name], too!

[name]Holland[/name]: No. Place names are trendy and I don’t think I’d be able to take a [name]Holland[/name] seriously.

[name]Janna[/name]: Hm… nothing terribly wrong, but I don’t like it. [name]How[/name] about [name]Jane[/name]?

[name]Katarina[/name] nn [name]Nina[/name]: I really like this! I also like [name]Kat[/name] as a nickname, though [name]Nina[/name] is pretty too.

[name]Kendall[/name]: Trendy surname, I don’t find it at all attractive.

[name]Leah[/name]: Nice and classic-- you can’t go wrong with [name]Leah[/name].

[name]Matilda[/name]: Very pretty, but not my favorite on your list.

[name]Ramona[/name]: It’s growing on me, mostly thanks to [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Quimby[/name]. I’d love to see a little [name]Ramona[/name]!

[name]Remington[/name] nn [name]Remy[/name]: Ditto [name]Kendall[/name], only more.

[name]Susannah[/name]: I really like [name]Susannah[/name].

[name]Tabitha[/name]: Nice, but not my favorite.

[name]Violet[/name]: It’s a lovely name, though a bit trendy.

My favorites are [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Frances[/name], [name]Helena[/name], and [name]Violet[/name]. Funnily, I love half your list and very much dislike the other half! Oh, and [name]Miriam[/name] is gorgeous too!

[name]Asher[/name]: [name]Even[/name] though I know it’s not, it sounds made-up in order to follow the [name]Ash[/name] trendy. It’s not a bad name, though.

[name]Baker[/name]: As a first name? No. It’s too obviously an occupational surname.

[name]Benjamin[/name]: I love [name]Benjamin[/name]!

[name]Byron[/name]: Interesting. A nice alternative to the dated [name]Brian[/name].

[name]Conrad[/name]: [name]Conrad[/name] is a new interest of mine. I like it!

[name]Dexter[/name]: I think the TV show renders it unusable, and besides that, I’m just not a fan.

[name]John[/name] nn [name]Jack[/name]: Nice to see [name]Jack[/name] as a nickname for once!

[name]Henry[/name]: One of my favorites.

[name]Hollis[/name] nn [name]Holly[/name]: I don’t like surnames as first names, and I’m afraid [name]Hollis[/name]/[name]Holly[/name] is too feminine nowadays.

[name]Leo[/name]: I love [name]Leo[/name]!

[name]Lucas[/name]: Great name!

[name]Magnus[/name]: Eh. Middle name territory, I think.

[name]Montgomery[/name] nn [name]Monty[/name]: [name]Way[/name] over the top.

[name]Parrish[/name]: Like a church parrish??

[name]Robert[/name] nn [name]Rip[/name]: What’s the appeal in [name]Rip[/name]? [name]Robert[/name] is nice.

[name]Soren[/name]: I’m not really a fan, but it’s okay.

[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name]: I love it!

[name]Winthrop[/name] nn [name]Winnie[/name]: Again, not a fan of surnames as firsts, but [name]Winnie[/name] is interesting to see on a boy…

[name]Wolfgang[/name] nn Wolfie: See [name]Magnus[/name].

My favorites are [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Conrad[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Leo[/name], and [name]Theodore[/name].

[name]Amelia[/name]: like it, but it’s getting too popular for me
[name]Arden[/name]: it’s a little hippie-dippy to me, and I don’t like the sound of [name]Arden[/name] [name]Young[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]: and, contradicting myself, I love this, despite its popularity! [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Young[/name] sounds nice
[name]Banning[/name]: definitely not, dislike the “ban” sound, even on a boy
[name]Bellamy[/name]: one of the few surname-names I can tolerate
[name]Blythe[/name]: very sweet, but prefer as a MN
[name]Caroline[/name] nn CeCe: like [name]Caroline[/name], don’t like the nickname
[name]Chandler[/name]: nope, don’t care for it. The “Friends” association still sticks.
[name]Eloise[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name]: really like [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] nn Francey: love [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]: really like it. [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Young[/name] sounds great
[name]Helena[/name]: lovely
[name]Holland[/name]: mmm…nope
[name]Janna[/name]: it’s ok, just kind of boring
[name]Katarina[/name] nn [name]Nina[/name]: pretty with a nn option that will fit during childhood and grow with her
[name]Kendall[/name]: nope
[name]Leah[/name]: pretty but a tad bit plain
[name]Matilda[/name]: like it
[name]Ramona[/name]: spunky and fun
[name]Remington[/name] nn [name]Remy[/name]: Like [name]Remy[/name], but it’s all boy to me
[name]Susannah[/name]: very romantic and musical-sounding, like it
[name]Tabitha[/name]: not a fan of the “[name]Tab[/name]” sound
[name]Violet[/name]: really like it but I also hear it a lot (in reality, not the internet :))

[name]Asher[/name]: like it
[name]Baker[/name]: not the most appealing of the occupation names
[name]Benjamin[/name]: great name
[name]Byron[/name]: despite the Romantic literature association, it kind of leaves me cold
[name]Conrad[/name]: for whatever reason, it makes me think of a butler
[name]Dexter[/name]: I like it, but for reasons that have nothing to do with the name. Or the TV show.
[name]John[/name] nn [name]Jack[/name]: so common, it seems stylish again.
[name]Henry[/name]: love it, one of my faves
[name]Hollis[/name] nn [name]Holly[/name]: I know a girl named [name]Hollis[/name] so I can’t really imagine it on a boy
[name]Leo[/name]: really like
[name]Lucas[/name]: like it
[name]Magnus[/name]: I keep seeing “[name]Angus[/name] [name]Young[/name]” instead. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
[name]Montgomery[/name] nn [name]Monty[/name]: a bit over the top
[name]Parrish[/name]: not for a first name. fine as a MN if it’s a family name
[name]Robert[/name] nn [name]Rip[/name]: [name]Robert[/name] is OK, not a fan of [name]Rip[/name]
[name]Soren[/name]: ehh…just ok
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name]: love!
[name]Winthrop[/name] nn [name]Winnie[/name]: Maybe as a MN.

[name]Leah[/name] – Pretty and sweet
[name]Matilda[/name] – [name]Don[/name]'t care for it.

[name]Tabitha[/name] – I like [name]Tabitha[/name] a lot, but do wonder about it’s use on a grown up. It sounds great on a kid or teen to me.
[name]Violet[/name] – I want to like this name, I really do. It’s my favorite flower, it looks pretty written, it has so much going for it! But I just hear the word violent when I hear it.
