WDYT of using Valia

What do people think of using Valia as a girl’s name? I’d especially love to hear from Hispanics. Valia on a Caucasian baby…stupid? inappropriate? cute? First came across it in [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]'s post: http://www.nancy.cc/2017/06/30/rare-girl-names-early-cinema-v/ I like the sound. It seems to fit right in with the “liquid/raindrop” names. But I especially love the worth/value meaning. However, we live in [name_f]Arizona[/name_f]…so I also don’t want Spanish speakers to hate it or be offended.

Thanks in advance!

In Russian culture Valia/[name_f]Valya[/name_f] is a nickname for [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]. I really like it.

Thanks for the info! Good to know. The actress named Valia Venitshaya makes more sense now. It is very difficult to find info about this name on the internet. Nice to know it actually is a name that has been used in different cultures.

Makes me think of Valium??? Still a nice name. Not Hispanic or from [name_f]Arizona[/name_f].

I’m Greek, here Valia is a pretty common nickname for [name_f]Vasiliki[/name_f] and [name_f]Vasilia[/name_f] and most Greeks are caucasian. Plus it’s just a pretty name!

I like it. There’s also the Scottish Vaila.

Pronounced like Vahl-ee-ah, it reminds me of Valium, but I work in a pharmacy so I don’t know how much is influenced by that. Pronounced Vahl-ya I like it, but even so I prefer Vaila.

Thanks for the input! Especially nice to know the Greek information. I’ll have to look at the names that have been mentioned.

I’m actually a pharmacist and it doesn’t remind me of Valium, so that doesn’t bother me. Probably because Valium has the emphasis on the first syllable but I would pronounce Valia with the emphasis on the second syllable. I would also totally use Aviva despite the test strips so pharmaceutical connections don’t automatically throw me off a name. (I also like to joke that Amitiza is the poop medication that was named after me…my name being Amity…also in pharmacy school classmates imagined me tripping onto an elevator and going to different floors to memorize the dosing of amitriptyline for our big top 300 drugs exam)
