WDYT of Winslet?

One of my friends is expecting a girl and currently loves the name [name_f]Winslet[/name_f]. When I first heard it I admit I disliked it and couldn’t seperate it from the actress, but now it’s really grown on me! What do you think?

I really like it! It has a delicate, whimsical yet unfrilly sound and a lovely naturey meaning. Lots of cute nickname potential too :+1:

It’s nms, but I like it for other people. It has a lovely, gentle sound and a rather whimsical feel to it – probably my favorite surname name for a girl!

Eep sorry its not for me. … I prefer traditional but rare, this is a little too modern for my taste and it definitely immediately made me think of the actress. It goes hand in hand with the Rileys, Parkers, Blairs and Hadleys for me, not a massive fan of that style although I know it’s very popular in the US (not sure where you’re based)

It’s nms, but I see the appeal.

Immediately associate it with the actress, but I love [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Winslet[/name_f], so it’s not a negative association. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a very strong one. I can see the appeal and I generally like surname names, but I’m not sure on this one.

I prefer [name_u]Winslow[/name_u], but it’s nice enough!

Just makes me think of the actress, personally I wouldn’t use it.

I love it! It seems somewhat magical to me. I love it with the nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]!

Thank you - you beat me to saying it - glad I wasn’t the only one who thought so.

I WANT to love it. I’m honestly not entirely sure how I feel about it, but I definitely prefer it to [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] and slightly prefer it to [name_f]Winnifred[/name_f]. I think I love the way it looks on paper but I’m just not sold on the sound (at least in an American accent)

It’s not my favorite, but I do like it. It sounds soft and delicate. :heartpulse:

I definitely love this. It’s on my GP list but I would love to see it used by someone else.

I much prefer it to [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] as the -slow ending is sooo unappealing, but the -let ending of [name_f]Winslet[/name_f] puts it in the same category with [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f], with a touch of Wintery vintage magic.

I love the image it evokes, it feels kind of like snow falling on a regency estate in a [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] novel.

It is a name first and foremost, [name_f]Kate[/name_f] comes after, and therefore I think it should be used in it’s own right! Besides - she’s a great association if that is where people’s minds go when they hear it. [name_f]Kate[/name_f]’s popularity also makes the name familiar, easy to spell and pronounce but uncommon enough to still be magical. But for me, [name_f]Winslet[/name_f] has taken on a life of it’s own. Any baby girl born [name_f]Winslet[/name_f] will take on her own ownership of the name and the association with the actress will fade as you get to know her anyway.

I find it very pretty, and the intuitive nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is sweet. I definitely think of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Winslet[/name_f] when I hear it, but that’s not a bad association in my book!

I prefer [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] for the softer lilting ending, however I also love [name_f]Winslet[/name_f] it sounds so delicate but because of its surnames feel it has some strength to it. Plus [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is the cutest nickname, and you could always use [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] or [name_f]Etta[/name_f] as well

I can’t unassociate it with the actress, and tbh find it a bit odd because of her but it sounds nice.
