Karliah? Pronounced kar LIE uh. Similar to [name]Karla[/name] but with the word “lie” wedged in there.
I can’t remember where I heard it but on google it says it is a name from a video game. The meaning is “strong and womanly” or “covered in snow”.
I love the feeling I get from this name. It seems strong yet beautiful at the same time. Like the feeling I get from [name]Danika[/name] or [name]Moriah[/name], and the exotic feeling I get from Davya or [name]Suraya[/name]. I think the nickname [name]Karli[/name] is super cute.
I didn’t like it until I got to the part about it meaning “covered in snow.” That sold it I was pronouncing it in my head as “kar -[name]LEE[/name]- uh” which also doesn’t sound as nice. [name]Karli[/name] is cute!
I too was saying as Kar-lee-ah. [name]Karli[/name] and [name]Karla[/name] are both nice enough names on their own but Karliah just sounds made up and trendy to me, sorry.
It does sound made up/trendy in a way, I suppose you are right. But after discovering it I think I am just soooo in love with it that I may have to use it someday. Maybe spelling it with a C would tone down the trendiness?
I don’t know if that etymology is correct-- an invented name from Skyrim was probably invented by game designers for aesthetics/phonetics alone.
It’s quite close to [name]Carlisle[/name]. It sounds like someone either feminized [name]Carlisle[/name] or smashed together three very popular name elements (starting sound [name]Karl[/name], long I, -ah ending sound for girls).
On babynamewizard.com it says it is related to [name]Karla[/name] which has those meanings, I think.
I mean, even if it is a made up variation of [name]Karla[/name], I think it’s cute. I don’t really think [name]Carlisle[/name] would work for a girl. It is so associated with being a boy name to me. But I think [name]Carla[/name] is boring, and [name]Carly[/name] is too nicknamey. Ugh.
And I swear I heard it somewhere but I cannot remember where! But I mean, of course, wherever I heard it, there is no guarantee that it was not made up by those parents as well. Is it really that horrible of a name or is it doable?
[name]Karla[/name] is a feminine version of [name]Charles[/name], which means ‘strong and manly.’ So, therefore, “strong and womanly.” I can’t think of where the ‘covered in snow’ meaning might have come from… it feels a little post hoc.
Skyrim is really popular, and Karliah hits all the right notes to make the jump to the real world. I’ve no doubt that there are little Karliahs out there!
