Wdyt : Ortman

While running errands today I heard a mom yell out “Ortman”. I’ve never heard this as a first name before. I think it’s really cool, but also sounds like it’s missing something, so I’m on the fence.

Have you heard this before? What do you think?

over 40 people looked at this thread and have absolutely no opinion…

Probably a family name. “Ort” sounds like a noise a pig makes.

Really close to ointment. A case where they thought they had a really cute name, but they “ort” have re thought it.

Its awkward.

I don’t know if I like the “ort” sound, but it would be fun to hear someone with the name.

I think it sounds awful.

Its certainly interesting. I’d love to find out why the parents chose it. It does sound a bit clunky when I say it out loud.

I honestly really don’t like it in the slightest. It’s awkward. There’s a cafe near me called Ortem…reminds me of that (which has always frustrated me, as [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] is so much nicer…)

I am not fond of Ortman at all.

I’m another non-fan of Ortman. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it was a family name, I feel like it could have been better used as a middle name.

I feel at a loss to comment. I guess I would have to know the back story. On it’s own merit, I do not love it.

Ortman sits on his own at lunch time.

[name_u]Forever[/name_u].

It’s the name of a road in an affluent area with lots of very large farms and estates. [name_f]My[/name_f] guess would be she is either from that area, her family founded the area, or they move frequently and love the area(wanted to keep memories of it)

These are all just guesses and I really have no solid leads. I knew it was a road around here when I heard her say it, which kinda threw me off.

I know a man whose last name is Outman, and this sounds like a mispronunciation of it.
