Lately I am just tickled pink over the name [name]Ezra[/name]. I used to hate it. I thought it was so old and crusty it should be thrown in the trash bin and hurled into space where it could never be used again. It certainly ([name]IMO[/name]) didn’t hold a candle to other “old man chic” names like [name]Noah[/name] (my favorite since I was about fifteen) or [name]Moses[/name] or [name]Walter[/name] (which I’ve loved since reading the [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables series, wherein my favorite of [name]Anne[/name]'s children is her son, [name]Walter[/name]).
But lately the name seems to have grown on me to a point where I am absolutely loving it! I wonder what your opinions are? Is it really usable as a name for a sweet little baby boy or is it only suitable for the crust old man image it embodies? Would it engender too much easy teasing potential for the schoolyard? Would naming a son [name]Ezra[/name] be debilitatingly ‘uncool’ when he was an angry, disillusioned teenager who only wants to have pretty girls notice him? I just wonder what you berries think, realistically, of the name. It’s one thing to like a name and say it’s a GP and another to saddle a child with it. Is this one wearable?
It’s been on my list for a while name but more so as a middle name. However, over the last couple of months I’ve completely fell in love with the name [name]Ezra[/name] and I think it is a seriously cool name. I just love it and can’t think of any negatives about the name!
[name]Ezra[/name] is definitely usable! It’s short and zippy, and has that cool letter z!
My favourite of the names you mentioned is [name]Walter[/name] - which is my definition of old man chic (my love for [name]Walter[/name] also began with the “[name]Anne[/name]” series).
I love [name]Ezra[/name]. I think it’s incredibly handsome and the type of name a guy could make his own. I see it more on a quiet, artistic guy, but it’d definitely work on a super extroverted jock or anything in between.
I like the name but it does make me think of [name]Ezra[/name] Pound, the facist poet. Literature is my world though so I’m not sure how many others would make that connection?
I think a teenager would find it a cool name to have and pretty girls would love it too
I don’t think of it as a crusty, stuffy name at all. The “z” gives it a very fresh, cool vibe. I like it! You might want to note that one of the main characters on Pretty [name]Little[/name] Liars is named [name]Ezra[/name], that was my initial thought. [name]IMO[/name], that doesn’t mean much, though.
[name]Ezra[/name] is totally wearable. I’ve never considered [name]Ezra[/name] an Old [name]Man[/name] Name at all, it’s definitely “in” and do-able. I’d put it in the same categories as the names [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Felix[/name], [name]Jude[/name], etc. Very hipster.
I agree it has had the old man, dated and unloved image but now it is hot and I am sure that there will be lots of [name]Ezra[/name]'s popping up and it also is on trend with names that have the ‘z’ sound.
I agree with Amandaberry above. [name]Ezra[/name] is very “in” at the moment and though not as common as other Biblical names, it fits the same style as others like [name]Asher[/name] and [name]Jude[/name]. It’s lovely.
I know I have my own ethnic/cultural issues in play but I can’t even think of [name]Ezra[/name] as an old man name. Like [name]Noah[/name]… [name]Noah[/name] isn’t old? At all?
Anyway, of all the names you listed, I like [name]Ezra[/name] best. Not very crusty, though. If anything just an under-the-radar alternative to [name]Elijah[/name], which is popular and youthful.
I love [name]Ezra[/name]! I know a little [name]Ezra[/name] who wears his name proudly! I don’t think it is dusty at all.
Honestly, [name]Noah[/name] doesn’t feel any where near as fresh as [name]Ezra[/name] does! I have known so many [name]Noah[/name]'s who are all over the age of 15!
I like [name]Ezra[/name] and I agree with a comment above Ez is a really awesome spunky nickname. I play League of Legends and there is a character named Ezrael which is more or less what I think of when I see [name]Ezra[/name].
Wow thanks for all the replies. I’m glad to hear it getting positive feedback because lately its really moved on up my list. I don’t know why. I used to hate it then out of the blue, I heard it one day I really loved it. [name]Just[/name] like that. Snap of a finger and my feelings on it changed and I just keep on liking it more.
It’s funny the [name]Ezra[/name] Pound connection was mentioned twice because poetry is my lifelong love and one of my other favorite boy names is [name]Byron[/name], for the incomparable [name]George[/name] [name]Gordon[/name] ([name]Lord[/name]) [name]Byron[/name] who is my favorite poet of all time.
As for the Pretty [name]Little[/name] Liars connection that was mentioned…well…I’ve never watched that show a day in my life. I don’t watch a whole lot of tv. I only watch a few shows anything like regularly. The rest are sporadic, when I’m bored and nothing else is on or I have nothing else to do. Usually I prefer to read a book. So it isn’t a connection I would have made…well…ever. I’m not even sure if it’s a good or bad thing since I’ve never seen the show or heard anything about it.
