I love [name]Ingrid[/name], [name]Lovisa[/name] and [name]Astrid[/name]. I don’t care for [name]Aleksia[/name] even if it’s spelled [name]Alexia[/name]. I used to know a gorgeous, blond Norwegian boy named [name]Thor[/name] so I have nothing but positive thoughts for this name. Some people think it’s a difficult name to pull off but he didn’t have any trouble. [name]Bo[/name] and [name]Anders[/name] are ok but just not my style. I do love other Scandinavian names: [name]Liv[/name], [name]Greta[/name] and [name]Maren[/name] for girls and [name]Lars[/name], [name]Sven[/name] and [name]Njord[/name] for boys.
[name]Aleksia[/name] is not Scandinavian.
Of the others, [name]Bo[/name] and [name]Lovisa[/name] are my favourites [name]Lovisa[/name] was my great great grandmother’s name.
For other suggestions, Ellisiv is the Old Norse variant of [name]Elizabeth[/name], and for a boy maybe you like [name]Alvar[/name]/Alvarin or [name]Audun[/name]?
I like them all, except for [name]Aleksia[/name].
I wasn’t sure how popular [name]Aleksia[/name] would be with you all. I knew a Danish girl with this name, and I thought it was great. she said it was quite common in Denmark and [name]Sweden[/name]??
Also my uncle is called [name]Alec[/name], so it would be a good name to honor him. However, it doesn’t seem to be getting a very good response!
My DH is OBSESSED with [name]Thor[/name], but I’m not sure about it. Especially with the avengers reference being so well known now.
Thank you for all your comments so far keep em coming!
[name]Astrid[/name]- I love this.
[name]Lovisa[/name]- I love this as well. So pretty.
[name]Ingrid[/name]- Another name I just love.
[name]Aleksia[/name]- This is the only one I don’t like.
Boys:
[name]Bo[/name]- Too short. I like the [name]Beau[/name] spelling (but then it’s not Scandinavian.)
[name]Anders[/name]- This could grow on me as an [name]Andrew[/name] alternative.
[name]Thor[/name]- Because of the recent popularity of the [name]Marvel[/name] Comics, [name]Thor[/name] is a no for me.
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
I have to admit I’m not intimate with naimng trends in [name]Sweden[/name] and Denmark, but I’ve never in my life heard of any Scandinavian with the name [name]Aleksia[/name], or anyone even considering it for their girl. It’s a very sweet name, I like how the ks rather than the x makes it less associated with [name]Alex[/name], and with [name]Alec[/name] in your family it would be wonderful. I’m sure you know it as well, but all Scandinavians would pronounce it a-lek-see-a rather than a-lek-sha, and I think it’s only beautiful if you do the same. I’ve never understood the need to smush together a name with an -ia ending to just -ya ([name]Julia[/name]) or -sha ([name]Lucia[/name]) when they’re so much prettier if you pronounce the i and the a separately.
Other names to honour an [name]Alec[/name] which are quite popular in [name]Sweden[/name] and Norway at least are [name]Alma[/name] and [name]Alva[/name]. Or just [name]Eric[/name] for a boy. ^^
I have to admit I was quite happy to see [name]Bo[/name] and [name]Lovisa[/name] on your list. Usually when people want Scandinavian names they go for the same set ([name]Ingrid[/name], [name]Leif[/name], [name]Liv[/name], [name]Gunnar[/name]) not realising that these are names only found on people who are 40 years or older these days, and missing all the other beautiful options out there…
Also, Anders is the name of the guy who first bombed Oslo and then went on to shoot 80 teenagers at a summer camp last year here in Norway (I’m sure you’ve heard of it). It will be one year ago on Sunday, actually. We’re seeing a hint of the effects of it already, and I think it will be more obvious when statistics for this year are released. Anders is losing popularity fast here.
I really love [name]Astrid[/name] and [name]Lovisa[/name], but so-so on [name]Ingrid[/name] and [name]Aleksia[/name]. [name]Ever[/name] since reading the book White Oleander I feel in love with the name [name]Astrid[/name]. [name]Astrid[/name] and [name]Ingrid[/name] are both used in the story.
For the boys I love [name]Anders[/name] out of them all. I think it is cute and can work for a little boy and a grown man.
Oooh really hadn’t though about [name]Anders[/name] being that gunmen! I can see why that would put people off!!! Thanks dearest! Also, I had always prn [name]Aleksia[/name] as [name]Alek[/name]- see- a. It just seems like the prn to me anyway.
I think [name]Astrid[/name] and [name]Lovisa[/name] are probably my favourites for the girls, but struggling with the boys. [name]Bo[/name] kinda feels nicknamey, any more thoughts on [name]Thor[/name]?
I quite like the earlier choice of [name]Lars[/name] and [name]Maren[/name]
The Office ruined [name]Astrid[/name] for me (misspelling it as Astird). And [name]Thor[/name] seems like a big name to fill due to the comic book character with the same name. What about [name]Tor[/name] instead of [name]Thor[/name]?
Other names I like that I think are Scandinavian:
Girls:
[name]Helene[/name]
[name]Kirsten[/name]/ Kirstina
[name]Beate[/name]
Boys:
[name]Mats[/name]
[name]Knut[/name]/e
[name]Hans[/name]
[name]Ole[/name]
[name]Peder[/name]
I personally [name]LOVE[/name] all the names!!
~[name]Jasmine[/name]
I love [name]Astrid[/name], [name]Ingrid[/name] and [name]Anders[/name]. [name]Bo[/name] and [name]Lovisa[/name] are okay, but I don’t care for [name]Aleksia[/name] and I think [name]Thor[/name] would be hard to wear. I do think [name]Thora[/name] (for a girl) is easier [name]IRL[/name] though.
I’m partial to [name]Axel[/name], [name]Emil[/name] and [name]Magnus[/name], and [name]Dagny[/name], [name]Dagmar[/name], [name]Solveig[/name] and [name]Elva[/name] for Scandinavian names
I love [name]Astrid[/name] and [name]Lovisa[/name]! Really dislike [name]Aleksia[/name] and meh on the rest.
I love [name]Lovisa[/name] and [name]Ingrid[/name], and [name]Anders[/name] is my favorite from the boys’ list.
