I’m expecing twin boys at the beginning of [name]January[/name], and we’ve been pretty set on one of the names for months now. We agreed pretty early on that one twin would be [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name]. We’ve had a much harder time coming up with a second name, however. It seems like one of us has a negative association for almost every male name out there! However, in the last few days we’ve been talking about [name]Sebastian[/name] nn [name]Bastian[/name] as a possible second name.
WDYT? [name]Do[/name] [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Bastian[/name] go well together? [name]One[/name] potential drawback that occurs to me is the somewhat creepy Brideshead Revisited connection. Did the whole Waugh thing occur to anyone else, and–if so–do you think it’s problematic?
The other names remaining on our short list right now are [name]Peter[/name] and [name]Desmond[/name]. Does one of these seem like a better match with [name]Charles[/name] than [name]Sebastian[/name] does?
[name]Hi[/name] - I prefer [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Peter[/name]. [name]Sebastian[/name] is okay, but I am not fond of the nn [name]Bastian[/name]. It seems the “bast-” part could invite negative teasing. I think [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Peter[/name] make a more compatible, cohesive sibset than [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name].
I agree that [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Peter[/name] match better than [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name]/[name]Desmond[/name] (even though I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Desmond[/name] and am so-so about [name]Peter[/name]) because [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Peter[/name] are both solid classics. Still, I think [name]Charles[/name] ‘[name]Charlie[/name]’ and [name]Sebastian[/name] ‘[name]Bastian[/name]’/[name]Desmond[/name] could both work well, especially because [name]Charlie[/name] is a bit more modern.
I really like [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name]. [name]Sebastian[/name] is a classic name as much as [name]Charles[/name], just not as well used. I dislike [name]Peter[/name].
My second choice would be [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Desmond[/name]. They sound cool and modern together, but still solid names.
Either [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] or [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Desmond[/name] get my vote. I like both equally.
I must admit, having read Brideshead Revisited recently, I did consider this when I saw the names together. But to be honest, I wouldn’t let that bother me. I am almost positive it was just because the book is still fresh in my memory. I don’t think many will notice or care.
Although [name]Sebastian[/name] is a little more “exotic” than the more traditional [name]Charles[/name], both names are classical so I think they’re fine together. I really love [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Bastian[/name] as nicknames. Second choice would be the more predictable pairing of [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Peter[/name].
I really like [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] together and I’m not fond of your other two choices. I haven’t read it even heard of the book you’re talking about so this is obviously not an issue for me. Unless the book is some classic that everyone is required to read in school, something they make a movie from or some wildly popular novel, I really don’t think it matters, and even if it is one of those things, if you like it, then you should just go for it. Those who have read the book, unless told otherwise will probably just think it’s a coincidence.
I agree with everything @dantea said. [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] are great together! I would definitely choose these names.
My second pick is [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Desmond[/name], though [name]Des[/name] falls short next to [name]Charlie[/name] as a nn. I’m not a fan of [name]Peter[/name] at all, and it has no nn’s.

My second pick is [name]Charles[/name] and Desmon, though [name]Des[/name] falls short next to [name]Charlie[/name] as a nn. I’m not a fan of [name]Peter[/name] at all.

I think [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] make a nice pair. I much prefer [name]Sebastian[/name] to [name]Desmond[/name] or [name]Peter[/name].
I think [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] could work quite well together. I also very much like [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Desmond[/name], but immediately think LOST when I hear them together. If you’re taking suggestions, I think [name]Charles[/name] ([name]Charlie[/name]) and [name]Edmund[/name]/[name]Edward[/name] ([name]Eddie[/name]/[name]Ned[/name]) would be pretty fantastic together
[name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] sound wonderful together!! I love [name]Charlie[/name] as a NN too!! I prefer [name]Ian[/name] as the NN for [name]Sebastian[/name] but I think [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Bastian[/name] sound fine together too!
I think [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Peter[/name]/[name]Desmond[/name] seem a better match than [name]Sebastian[/name], which seems much more modern and less traditonal sounding.
[name]Charles[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] are adorable together! I like them on their own, but together they are just perfect! I think [name]Charlie[/name] is such a cute nickname, however I don’t like [name]Bastian[/name]. [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Charlie[/name] (or [name]Charles[/name]) are better.
