WDYTO Julius Kadel?

We’re 16 weeks in, and not finding out the gender of our little bean. We decided on [name_m]Julius[/name_m] Kadel pretty quickly ([name_m]Julius[/name_m] is a family name for SO, Kadel is my father’s middle name [variant of [name_m]Cadel[/name_m]]) and I loved it. [name_u]Jules[/name_u] is the nn I will likely use.

Then we picked our girls name, [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], and I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] it. [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] is a family name for SO, and [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] is a name I’ve adored for years, since I was 10 or 12. I don’t have a boy’s name I’ve been in love with for so long, so it shouldn’t be surprising that suddenly [name_m]Julius[/name_m] Kadel is a little “meh” to me. I mean, it’s perfectly fine but it just seems a little pale next to our girl name.

I like names that are a little bit showy-eccentric (names SO vetoed include [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m], other names I like are [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] and [name_m]Aloysius[/name_m] and [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] and [name_m]Caspar[/name_m]). I kept my maiden name, so bean will be double barreled two syllable-two syllable ending in an -ley sound.

So, WDYTO [name_m]Julius[/name_m]? Or do you have other ideas to get us rolling? (btw, I’m not wedded to Kadel, but I do want both names to have some sort of meaning to us both–just like our girls name does).

Thanks in advance!

I think [name_m]Julius[/name_m] Kadel is nice! It might have less dings and whistles than [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], but I think it’s still intriguing.

Thank you! I’m starting to feel better. I think it’s just that girls names are so fun, while boy names are more conservative. wrinkles nose

Curious…[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce Kadel? I have a similar mn (Kachel), and EVERYONE has always pronounced it wrong–even w/help. My parents intended a [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation, but neglected to use a feminine [name_m]French[/name_m] spelling (so much for public education). I’ve decided to go w/a pronunciation that makes a bit more since, even though it’s masculine.

My dad (and thus we) pronounces it kuh-[name_u]DELL[/name_u] with a hard “k”, short “a” sound. I hope that makes sense. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce your Kachel? I’m trying to imagine a french pronunciation (kuh-[name_f]SHELLE[/name_f]?) and wondering if what you get instead is kuh-CHELL where the ch is like in “chair.” Am I anywhere close?
