Thanks!
It’s kind of dated to the 70s and 80s for me. I definitely prefer [name]Cara[/name].
Dated, and sounds harsh to me, although I feel the same about most common T names but this one in particular. Much prefer [name]Tira[/name].
I like it a lot, it’s a lovely name. More exciting than say [name]Cara[/name] or [name]Ava[/name].
Depends are you pronouncing it [name]TAH[/name]-rah or TER-ah? Ter sort of sounds like care.
If the first pronunciation, I love it! I wish more people would use it. It’s lovely and it makes me think of [name]Ireland[/name] and faeries
If the second pronunciation, I dislike [name]Tara[/name] said that way. If you want that sound, then go with [name]Terra[/name], which is Latin for [name]Earth[/name], and I love it.
Agree!
[name]Tah[/name]-ra prn is the one I prefer.
I think it is a short, well known name that I still see used among girls. Good Irish imagery.
I like the name alot.
It sounds like terror to me.
You know, it’s weird to me that so many people pronounce [name]Tara[/name] like tah-rah. Must be a regional thing because every [name]Tara[/name] I know is terr-ah (though I know a Tahrah, pronounced as spelled). Anyways, it’s ok. [name]Just[/name] kinda of bland to me. And I used to be friends with a [name]Tara[/name] that was super annoying and a pretty bad friend, so I think of that…
[name]Love[/name] [name]Tara[/name] [name]Tah[/name]-ruh and that wasn’t always the case , I still like Tare-uh and would like to see it used more
Excellent point & ideas!
I love [name]Tara[/name] pronounced tah-ruh, not tare-ah. [name]Tara[/name] rhymes with car.
This ([name]Tah[/name]-ruh) is the only way [name]Tara[/name] is every pronounced in Australia. I think Tare-uh sounds terrible.
That said, I still find it harsh and dated.
hehe, Taz, I know why you’re posting this, but I won’t say.
Personally, I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Tara[/name] and its definitely not dated for me. I’m actually using it in a novel right now!
~[name]Jasmine[/name]
It’s my name so I love it. It’s not frilly or manly. I also love [name]Yara[/name], it’s a bit softer and fresher.
[name]Tara[/name] is uncommon but not unheard of. Supposedly it was popular in the 70s/80s but I’m an 80s baby and I didn’t meet another [name]Tara[/name] until college. Most people that meet me say they’ve never met a [name]Tara[/name] before.
As for stats, the highest rank was in 1977 with 7,197 babies given this name. There were 3,326,632 babies born that year, so [name]Tara[/name] was just a drop in the bucket even at it’s height in popularity
I despise “tair-uh”. It’s [name]Vivien[/name] [name]Leigh[/name]'s fault that so many Americans mispronounce it. She had a lot of trouble mastering the Southern accent so she butchered the name in GWTW. Then people named their daughters after the movie’s incorrect pronunciation
As an Aussie, I agree with Dantea & others on the [name]Tah[/name]-ra pronounciation (and this applies too to [name]Clara[/name], which I have posted on before). I like the name with this pn and definitely dislike the other.
I once knew a [name]Tara[/name] whose mn was [name]Katinka[/name] & I’ve always remembered it as cool combo.
I love [name]Tara[/name] when pronounced [name]Tah[/name]-rah. It is a bit dated though. I prefer the [name]Tah[/name]-rah pronunciation because it is the pn most commonly used in [name]Ireland[/name]! I like the name [name]Cora[/name] better, which has a similar feel but isn’t as dated/
My sister’s name is [name]Tara[/name]. My mom chose it because it was the name she liked best in her favorite movie “Gone with the Wind.” [name]Tara[/name] is the name of the plantation, so I don’t know if that would effect the choice. I don’t think it matter’s how it’s pronounced. We like it in our family!
Its a nice name…I grew up with a few of them…maybe its a little dated…but wouldstill work
Maybe slightly dated but I don’t see a problem with using it. I know one [name]Tara[/name] and she’s 20, it’s a bit bland for me but not an awful name at all. Far prefer the Tahr-uh spelling, Tare-uh just sounds odd.
I love it! I pronounce it [name]TAH[/name]-ra. I have never heard tair-uh before.
