[name]Hi[/name],
We don’t know what sex our baby is but we are struggling to decide on a boy’s name. I am happy to have a couple and see what feels right, but wondered about getting some feedback on our choices so far?
Where we are from these names aren’t overly used even though I know they are more popular elsewhere
[name]Maxwell[/name] ([name]Max[/name]) - our first choice so far.
[name]Laurent[/name] (how would you pronounce this name?)
[name]Art[/name] (Maybe short for [name]Arthur[/name])
[name]Archie[/name] (would you have a full name as well?I’m not so keen on [name]Archer[/name])
[name]Frank[/name]
[name]Laurent[/name]- I would pronounce Lor-ON. I don’t really know how to write that phonetically, but I would not pronounce the T and swallow the N…
[name]Arthur[/name] is nice, as is [name]Archibald[/name] (I don’t care for [name]Archer[/name], either). I prefer [name]Francis[/name] to [name]Frank[/name] (with [name]Frank[/name] as a NN), but [name]Franklin[/name] is OK too.
My favorite from that list is [name]Maxwell[/name] allso! I think it is a great name.
I have 2 friends that have just named their son’s longer names that they shorten to call [name]Max[/name]. One is [name]Maximus[/name] and the other is [name]Maddox[/name].
[name]Maxwell[/name] ([name]Max[/name]): This name has never done anything for me. I don’t like it and I don’t dislike it.
[name]Laurent[/name]: I would pronounce it lor-ONT. I think this is distinguished and handsome.
[name]Art[/name]: [name]Arthur[/name] is one of my absolute favorites for a boy. For that reason, I love [name]Arthur[/name] nn [name]Art[/name]!
[name]Archie[/name]: I personally don’t care for this, but I can see the appeal. I prefer [name]Archer[/name] over [name]Archibald[/name] (too clunky to me), but if you don’t like either then I would use [name]Archie[/name]. Many berries aren’t too keen on nickname names but I like them. [name]Archie[/name] can definitely stand on its own.
[name]Frank[/name]: This name reminds me of a grumpy turtle. No idea why. I like [name]Frankie[/name] though.
My favorites are [name]Arthur[/name] nn [name]Art[/name] and [name]Laurent[/name], in that order.
[name]Hi[/name]
I really like [name]Maxwell[/name] ([name]Max[/name]) and although there seemed to be a bit of a phase where I met a few boys called [name]Max[/name], that was about 10 years ago and it’s definitely died down!
I would pronounce [name]Laurent[/name] Loh-[name]RON[/name]…Sort of. I think you might run into issues with the pronunciation though. Lo-rent doesn’t sound too flash!
Another vote for [name]Max[/name]. Classic and modern/punchy at the same time. Fits a little boy and a grown man. The full name gives a sophisticated choice as an adult if that’s the feel he decides to go for.
My second choice would be [name]Arthur[/name], though I don’t love the nn [name]Art[/name]. [name]Frankie[/name] is adorable for a little boy, and [name]Franklin[/name] would work when he’s older–but I just don’t like [name]Frank[/name]. [name]Art[/name] and [name]Frank[/name] feel too dated and grandpa-ish for me–but who knows, maybe they’re on their way back just like the “old lady names” ([name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], ect.). I’m having my first child at nearly 40, so my grandparents’ generation’s names may be cool to younger parents, just as I love my great-grandparents’ names.
[name]Laurent[/name] - I know someone with this name. It’s Laur-ohn, no t. But how would it sound where you are, and is [name]Lauren[/name] a common female name there? Could be mistaken for [name]Lauren[/name], spelled wrong etc. Otherwise though this is my first choice.
[name]Art[/name] - don’t like [name]Art[/name] or [name]Arthur[/name] which sounds a bit old man to me.
[name]Archie[/name] - don’t like it at all. [name]Archibald[/name] I am not keen on either, nor [name]Archer[/name].
[name]Frank[/name] - don’t like.
So I would vote in order of [name]Laurent[/name] (unless the closeness to [name]Lauren[/name] causes a problem) and then [name]Maxwell[/name].
I love [name]Laurent[/name]! I have an uncle named [name]Laurent[/name] and it is pronounced luh-[name]RON[/name] with a nasal unpronouced n. It is french, and if you have french roots and a french surname, it would be great choice. I do think it would sound a bit odd with a very nonfrench surname.
