We have a daughter named [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and a son named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
We’re not finding out the gender of our third and can’t agree on a boy name. I like the name [name_m]George[/name_m]. My husband hates it but says it could be used as a middle name as it’s a family name. He likes the name [name_m]Ares[/name_m] which I absolutely hate (no offense to anyone!) it just sounds way too harsh and I don’t necessarily want to continue the Greek god/goddess trend- [name_f]Athena[/name_f] was just a special name for us.
Obviously we don’t mind common names ([name_m]Oliver[/name_m]) but I don’t like super trendy names either. I have looked at so many lists and just can’t find anything I like!
Can you guys offer any gems for us to talk about? We’re so stuck on our two names that it’s like we can’t even see other ones!
I love [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]! I agree with [name_m]George[/name_m] being a middle and that [name_m]Ares[/name_m] is a bit harsh since he’s the god of war and represents violence and the chaos of war lol.
These names are similar to [name_f]Athena[/name_f]:
[name_m]Alec[/name_m]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Castor[/name_m]
[name_m]Cyprian[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Zander[/name_m]
Here are some like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]:
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
I usually have troubles suggesting names when I don’t have information of style or if meaning matters, but I’ll give it a shot.
It seems as if you like more classical/old/established names. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is one, and might tie the mythical [name_f]Athena[/name_f] with the more straight laced [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] as [name_m]Felix[/name_m] has a spunky vibe (at least to me) and is definitely well established. It also means ‘happy, fortunate’ which I think is a fantastic meaning to bestow on a baby boy.
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] is also an older name which means ‘soldier or merciful’, once again, two great meanings. The alternate, [name_m]Milo[/name_m], is also cute. Both of these would age well.
If you want to go for another mythological figure, but in a different culture, [name_u]Finn[/name_u] would be a great choice. It has a significantly less harsh sound than [name_m]Ares[/name_m] (in my opinion) while still feeling strong, and it has a perhaps better namesake than the god of war. The Irish mythical figure was best known for being a warrior who was also wise and generous, two qualities that are definitely needed in our world.
I like another poster’s suggestion of [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. It’s sounds great with [name_m]George[/name_m] in the middle and serves as a nice bridge between sibling names [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
Names that work well in your sibset but maybe not as well with [name_m]George[/name_m] in the middle spot:
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucian[/name_m]
[name_m]Jairus[/name_m] (it’s a classic, old fashioned name that is almost like smashing [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Ares[/name_m] together)
[name_m]Jared[/name_m]
[name_m]Zander[/name_m]
[name_m]Xander[/name_m]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_m]Edwin[/name_m]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_u]Ira[/name_u]
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]
[name_m]Ivan[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]
[name_u]Jaden[/name_u]
[name_u]Jesse[/name_u]
I agree with [name_m]George[/name_m] being best as a middle name and not using [name_m]Ares[/name_m] at all. ([name_f]Athena[/name_f] and [name_m]George[/name_m] sounds a bit odd as a sibset to me.) But if you love it, use it!
People have already suggested most of the names I was going to suggest but: what about [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]? It means “of the forest” and is also connected to a [name_m]Roman[/name_m] god of the forest ([name_m]Silvanus[/name_m]) so it has the nature connection AND mythology connection, thus making it the perfect fit with [name_f]Athena[/name_f] (mythology) and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (nature)! At least in my opinion :). Another option is [name_m]Silvio[/name_m] or [name_m]Silvan[/name_m].
