We can't agree on anything!

DH & I put together a list of boys names without any problems, but we’re totally lost on girls names!

Our Top 3 were:
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]- which I still love, but he’s iffy on & it seems to be increasing in popularity
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]- I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] & he likes the sound, but thinks everyone will associate it with Shrek
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]- we fell HARD for this name, but now…not so much

Criteria:

  1. Not overly frilly/fussy
  2. Nickname possibility/possibilities
  3. Irish/English/Scottish connection a plus
  4. Familiar, but not too popular
  5. Goes nicely with [name_m]Graham[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m] or [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] (our top boy contenders)

[name_f]TIA[/name_f]!
katriona

I think [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is sweet and I wouldn’t think Shrek straight away.

Suggestions: (I am going to try my best to fit your criteria)
[name_f]Brenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]
[name_f]Roisin[/name_f]

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Neve[/name_f]? I think that’s a beautiful name, easy to pronounce and so pretty!

Other ideas:
[name_f]Elysia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eirin[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aileen[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]

I like your boy’s names!

I don’t care for [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] but I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Rowena[/name_f]. Are you pronouncing it “roh-WEE-nuh”? If so, then what about changing the pronunciation to “ROH-wenn-uh”?

Suggestions:

Rowenna (roh-WENN-uh)
[name_f]Regina[/name_f]
[name_f]Roxanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f]
[name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Finola[/name_f] (I think this is slightly more daring and upper-crust/sophisticated than [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], plus you get the amazing shortform [name_f]Nola[/name_f].)
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]
[name_f]Fenella[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]

I have a friend that has daughters [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and she never gets “Shrek” - her [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is the sweetest, and I love it.

A suggestion? I see that you like [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m] for a boy - what about [name_f]Locklyn[/name_f] for a girl?

I’m glad [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] didn’t make you think of Shrek- maybe I’ll keep trying to change his mind

Of the suggestions above, I love [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] & [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], but he vetoed both of those. We like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], but fear it’s too popular. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is a definitely possibility. He likes [name_f]Greer[/name_f], but I’m afraid it sounds too harsh especially with [name_m]Graham[/name_m].

Thanks for all your help so far!

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is one of my faves but dh said the same thing about Shrek. I loved [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and the nn Finny I thought it was so sweet.
Keep trying to pursuade him! I want someone to use it so badly lol

[name_f]Ronia[/name_f]
[name_u]Isra[/name_u]
[name_f]Cliona[/name_f]
[name_u]Dacey[/name_u]
[name_f]Ena[/name_f]
[name_f]Faline[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], but my husband is concerned about Shrek as well. Seeing the names on your list made me think [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. It feels like a good cross between your top three names.
Other suggestions:

[name_f]Wendy[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Moira[/name_f]
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]
