We’re looking for a more formal-ish first name that has a quirkier nickname to go with our boys’ names ([name]Francis[/name] “[name]Frankie[/name]”, [name]Henry[/name] “[name]Huck[/name]” and [name]Philip[/name] “[name]Flip[/name]”). Here’s our list so far, we would love any comments or suggestions you have
[name]Patrick[/name] “[name]Paddy[/name]” (other nickname suggestions? I like Trick but am worried it’s just way too much)
[name]George[/name] “[name]Geo[/name]”
[name]Winston[/name] “[name]Win[/name]”
[name]August[/name] “[name]Gus[/name]”
[name]Edmund[/name] “[name]Teddy[/name]” ([name]Teddy[/name] is an accepted nn for [name]Edmund[/name], right?)
[name]Charles[/name] “[name]Chaz[/name]” (we fell in love with [name]Chuck[/name] but then realized it rhymes with [name]Huck[/name]… ugh)
[name]Arthur[/name] “[name]Artie[/name]” (I’m not sold on this but husband loves it)
From your list of names and quirky nicknames that go well with sibs and I like best are (no particular order):
[name]George[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Edmond[/name]- I think [name]Teddy[/name] can be a nn why not? Better than [name]Eddie[/name].
Not a fan:
[name]Arthur[/name]: I think of [name]Arthur[/name] the aardvark from when I was a child.
[name]Patrick[/name]- I dislike nn potential and the name is eh.
[name]Winston[/name]- this may be weird but I can almost only picture this name on a dog.
[name]Charlie[/name]- I just have never been a fan and I think you have other great options.
My favorite is [name]Charles[/name]. [name]Chaz[/name] is a great nn and you never know once he’s here the fact that [name]Chuck[/name] rhymes with [name]Huck[/name] might not bother you or it might be a fun thing.
I really think it goes the best with your sibset and is the most fun!
[name]George[/name] “[name]Geo[/name]” would be my second pick.
I actually love Trick as a nn for [name]Patrick[/name] and I think it would fit in well with your other boys names!
[name]Patrick[/name] “Trick”: I think [name]Patrick[/name] is classic but interesting and I adore the nn Trick. I think Trick is whimsical and spunky and adds an edge to [name]Patrick[/name] that is very appealing.
[name]August[/name] “[name]Gus[/name]”: [name]August[/name] is a great name and [name]Gus[/name] is so sweet. I like how [name]August[/name] is more formal and [name]Gus[/name] is very approachable and friendly.
[name]Charles[/name] “[name]Chaz[/name]”: I grew up with a [name]Chaz[/name] and I always liked his name. I think [name]Chaz[/name] is fun and a little wild where [name]Charles[/name] is all business.
[name]Edmund[/name] “[name]Teddy[/name]”: I like [name]Edmund[/name] but I don’t love the nn [name]Teddy[/name], it seems more juvenile than your other son’s nn’s and I’m not sure how [name]Teddy[/name] will age.
[name]Arthur[/name] “[name]Artie[/name]”: I love [name]Arthur[/name] I think it is strong with a bit of a mystical touch because of the [name]King[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] stories. I don’t love [name]Artie[/name] but I think it could grow on me when worn by the right little boy.
[name]Winston[/name] “[name]Win[/name]”: I think the nn [name]Win[/name] is awesome but I am not a huge [name]Winston[/name] fan.
[name]George[/name] “[name]Geo[/name]”: I don’t like the nn [name]Geo[/name] it makes me think of geology and rocks and not in a fun way. [name]George[/name] also lacks the kick of your other choices imo.
I think [name]Frankie[/name], [name]Huck[/name], [name]Flip[/name], and Trick is the best combination followed by [name]Frankie[/name], [name]Huck[/name], [name]Flip[/name], and [name]Gus[/name]. I love your boys names I think they are just awesome…can’t wait to see what you pick!
My favorite out of those is the [name]August[/name]/[name]Gus[/name] combination; a nice combination of formal and friendly.
I also really like the nickname [name]Geo[/name] for [name]George[/name], but I have a feeling the world is going to be over-saturated with [name]George[/name] now, ha ha.
[name]Patrick[/name] “[name]Paddy[/name]” (other nickname suggestions? I like Trick but am worried it’s just way too much)-- Eh, I dislike the name [name]Patrick[/name] because the only nn that isn’t weird or doesn’t sound like a leprechaun is [name]Pat[/name], which isn’t the cutest for a little boy. Works for a man though.
[name]George[/name] “[name]Geo[/name]”-- Never heard of this nn, and I think people might think it’s a stretch/too bizarre.
[name]Winston[/name] “[name]Win[/name]”-- Nah.
[name]August[/name] “[name]Gus[/name]” – Dingdingding! [name]August[/name] fits perfectly with your other classic boys’ names, and [name]Gus[/name] is freaking adorable. Absolutely the best choice.
[name]Edmund[/name] “[name]Teddy[/name]” ([name]Teddy[/name] is an accepted nn for [name]Edmund[/name], right?) – Not to my knowledge, no. [name]Teddy[/name] is for [name]Theodore[/name]. Which would be a good choice, actually!
[name]Charles[/name] “[name]Chaz[/name]” (we fell in love with [name]Chuck[/name] but then realized it rhymes with [name]Huck[/name]… ugh)-- [name]Chaz[/name] is all [name]Bono[/name] to me.
[name]Arthur[/name] “[name]Artie[/name]” (I’m not sold on this but husband loves it)-- Not bad. My 2nd choice from this list.
