I opened a thread a few days ago about Ysée (Izay), a [name_m]French[/name_m] name that my husband and I love, but that most of you find unwearable because of its proximity with the word “easy”.
I had in my list the name Isildée and bingo… my husband likes it! It’s also a [name_m]French[/name_m] name. Isildée comes from Isild. Isild is the medieval form of [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], but it could also come from [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] / [name_f]Isold[/name_f]. We pronounce it Izilday. She could go by Isild, and we could use Ysée as a nickname.
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it? Is this one wearable in the US?

I think it’s lovely! It will most definitely have its difficulties, but it’s still wearable. It’s really a matter of if it’s worth it to you. I would personally pronounce it ee-zeel-day.
I really wouldn’t know how to go about pronouncing it, both at a glance and after some thought, but I’m sure people would catch on once they get used to it. I do like that it is a name you both like and that it allows you to use a nickname you love.
I think it’s a beautiful name. I am American, and would guess either ee-sill-day or ee-seal-day
As an American my first thought would be Iz-zel-dee or Iz-zel-day. It has a pretty sound to it and I think it would be usable. I do think there will be some difficulties with pronunciation and spelling at first, especially since é often get lost in [name_u]America[/name_u]'s paperwork. I couldn’t even put that accent over the e on my keyboard without copying and pasting. Overall though, I do think its usable but there will be issues with spelling and pronunciation.
The first thing it reminds me of is Isildur from [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings. Pretty cool association, although his character was a bit…complicated.
Anyway I like Isildée much more than Ysée! It’s really lovely and definitely wearable. I’ve never seen or heard of it, but I don’t find it too difficult to pronounce.

I think it’s very pretty, and yet also very strong sounding like all the -ild- names. I just love Ysée but agree that the spelling and pronunciation makes it problematic in an English-speaking country, so Isildée feels like a good compromise… as long as you don’t mind English speakers mangling the pronunciation and spelling to varying degrees.
What a lovely choice! I think Isildee has a more intuitive pronunciation for non-[name_m]French[/name_m] speakers, one that is absolutely beautiful.v
I think it’s absolutely beautiful! I also thought of Isildur from [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings, but I dont think many (if any) other people would.
I really like the way it sounds, though it might have some pronunciation issues. I wouldn’t know if the start should be pronounced Iz or Eez.
I dont think that’s too much of an issue, though. So long as you dont mind correcting people!

@regionlatbest: To be honest, my french ear doesn’t understand the difference between Iz and Eez haha, so it’s definitely not a problem. I also would not mind if people pronounce it ee-seal-day / ee-sill-day. I’m more worried about the beginning being pronounced Eye-seal-day or Eye-zeel-day.

I think its different, pretty and could totally work in the us. I would say it could be a bit of a problem for spelling and some might not pronounce it right, but if you don’t mind its awesome.

I like it though I actually prefer it pronounced with an EE ending (while preferring esme as es-may), it’s probably the -day that puts me off.
I do like the [name_m]French[/name_m] é pronunciation, too, but to me that very different to the English -ay.
Apart from that I think it looks beautiful!
I would say it EE-zel-day, which sounds like weasel-day so me. The actually pronunciation is better but still sounds weird to me. I much prefer [name_f]Esmee[/name_f].
