If you hadn’t seen my post yesterday, I was in the hospital yesterday morning freaking out because the baby was due that evening and we didn’t have a name.
We had narrowed our list down to three names: [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Juniper[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name], and [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] and were stuck because we loved them all equally and had no idea how we were going to pick. Like, I was expecting the decision of her name to be harder than actually giving birth to her.
But after she was born it got very easy to name her. When I held her the first thing I noticed is that she had this little scrunched-up look on her face and when our son [name]Leo[/name] held her for the first time she punched him in the nose; our three-year-old [name]Simon[/name] didn’t want to hold her after she pinned him with a tough glare. So her personality helped us narrow down the names. She wasn’t a sunny, sweet [name]Phoebe[/name]. She wasn’t a soft, playful [name]Eloise[/name]. This baby was a no-nonsense, I-may-be-a-only-a-few-hours-old-but-I-am-already-the-boss-of-all-of-you [name]Clara[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name].
She’s the most beautiful baby in the world and we’re ridiculously in love with her.
[name]Clara[/name] fits her so well, and we adore her name to pieces. We also love the connections with her name: [name]Clara[/name] from the Nutcracker and the wonderful hero [name]Clara[/name] [name]Barton[/name], and [name]Beatrix[/name] from the children’s author [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Potter[/name]. The relatives are jumping on that last connection and I kid you not my [name]MIL[/name] and my aunt both gave us a complete set of [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Potter[/name] books when they dropped by. Geez.
Our three-year-old son [name]Simon[/name] decided to call her Bean exclusively after he couldn’t pronounce [name]Beatrix[/name] and it’s catching on with our older sons. And my 17-year-old brother. And my husband. And fine, me too.
Anyway, we’re both doing very well, the boys love her to death, and we’re unbelievably happy with her name.
You all helped so much and I so very much appreciate it.
