This is awesome! Thanks for keeping things ship shape guys!
UPDATE: When I go to a user’s profile, it has an extra tab for infractions. That and ‘moderator’ under my name are the only moderator privileges I have currently :).
But what we need moderators for is good taste!
My biggest complaint with Nameberry is that no matter how awful the names are we have to pretend to be supportive of them.
I am not ashamed of speaking my mind in a good cause.
I wish the moderators the best of luck!
@emilyva - Since this is a public forum, many people will be on and they will all have different taste, but we will do our best to keep extremely weird troll name threads (ex. “WDYT of Ahidhdsna?” or threads like that) off the boards.
I will never pretend to like a name that is horrible or made up. I do suggest alternatives to it though, but I will never lie and say I like a name that I do not. Pretending to like a specific name will almost never help if someone wants honest opinions. There is also a difference between giving constructive criticism and being downright brutal with your opinions.
You can’t change everyones taste in names, but you always offer honesty and suggestions.
ikfly, has your screen changed to give you any moderator privileges? Mine hasn’t except for the ‘infraction’ button on user’s profile pages.
You don’t have to pretend to like anything. You just have to be respectful when you say you don’t like it.
“That’s horrendous and your child will hate you and everyone will think you’re a moron” is different than “That really isn’t good. You might want to consider XYZ. There might be some teasing potential too. I can see X being easy to make fun of.”
Also, the only thing I see now is the infractions tab under people’s profiles and user notes (Which I might have just missed all this time).
What are the user notes? Also, I am also noticing a huge list of usernames underneath each thread. It changes with most threads. Is this a moderator thing or have I just not noticed it before?
Nothing had changed yet for me. User notes are on a persons profile page. I’m not sure if it’s new.
I can see banned members under site leaders, but is that new?
Agreed. Respect is key.
Thanks, ikfly. I found the user notes. [name_m]How[/name_m] are they supposed to be used?
The banned members list is not new.
Moderator tools are at the bottom of the thread. I just noticed it.
Oh yeah, they are there. Hurray
Yep. They are on top of the thread next to Thread Tools too.
I also have the extra features near titles of each thread on the main page.
Yippee they are finally here
Yerp, we’re all powered up now. Moderators, assemble! Lol.
I just wanted to ask how moderators are chosen? I think from what you say they volunteered, and I think they are great choices, but I was wondering how you made the decision. Since they are now affecting the NB community, I wanted to perhaps suggest a vote of some kind? Also, senior members could have this privilege. I don’t want to say anything against the mods, great choices, but for next time, maybe you should have more strict criteria?
All of us who are moderators are senior members who have been with the site for years and have shown exemplary character (no fighting, troll hunting, mediating (I do this when I can), contribute to the site anyway (I know I’ve gotten several name entries fixed and I write lots of guest blogs) etc). So, [name_f]Pam[/name_f] and [name_f]Linda[/name_f] didn’t just let whoever volunteered do it. I assume if a junior member who hasn’t earned the trust of the big bosses volunteered, they wouldn’t have chosen them.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] so you know why I think we were all chosen
That’s correct, Dantea. Renrose volunteered to organize a team of moderators. If people would like to be moderators, they can apply to her. There is a minimum requirement of six months on Nameberry and 500 posts but there is also a qualitative element and we will leave that judgment to her. Thanks!
We have moderators but what are the rules? There was an extra thread thing saying nb rules but I haven’t seen anything that says eg. if you do x then x etc. Like-what will the moderators actually do and what will cause them to do that? Sorry if I am butting in the moderators thread but I am a person that needs the guidelines set out formally instead of unspoken rules. [me=weird I know]
