We love Eleanor, BUT

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] make a gorgeous sibset, both names having the same classy, regal feel. I wouldn’t have thought of the Roosevelts either, but I’m not American. Someone might point it out occasionally, but I don’t think it would come up all that much. My first thought of what your problem with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] could be is that they share the “or” sound. (I don’t see that as a problem but some would.)

If [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] would go by [name_u]Theo[/name_u] most of the time and/or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would go by [name_f]Nora[/name_f] most of the time, it makes it even less obvious.

My favourite on your list of alternatives is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. It has the same strong but feminine, historical feel as [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] to me. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is actually one of my favourite sibsets ever, haha.

If you want something similar to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], go with [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. You could also use [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] on the birth certificate and have her go by [name_f]Nora[/name_f] most of the time, to minimize the [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] connection. (Though be prepared that she may decide to go by the full [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] when she’s older, or use a different nickname.) Spelling it [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] would also make it less obvious.

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] are also lovely names and go well with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] don’t feel as timeless, and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] are too cutesy next to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].

Good luck deciding! You have some beautiful names on your list

I agree. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] may be too trendy. I’m not quite sure about this one yet. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] over [name_f]Nora[/name_f]?

I actually have a brother named [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and a sister named [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]! Granted, there are five other siblings in between. I don’t think anyone has ever really noticed (I’m sure someone has I just don’t remember).

I like [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f].

What about [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]? That combines two beautiful names on your list. Or how about [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]?

I second [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Knox[/name_m]. If you like [name_f]Nora[/name_f] very much, you could always use [name_f]Nora[/name_f] ([name_f]Norah[/name_f]) on its own. Or [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] could be alternatives — I am excited (and quite upset) that you found the connection, as [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] could make good siblings.

I love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] too, but it’s the rhyming part that I think most people notice, not the history connection. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is my favorite from your list. [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] have the same rhyming issues so I wouldn’t use use them. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is classic like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], but seems short-- what about [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], or [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] instead? My top suggestion for you is [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. [name_f]Helena[/name_f] has a lot of similar sounds to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and a similar meaning. This is followed by [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] or [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].

Some other possibilities:

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Muriel[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]

I do like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] better than [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. It has more spark and spunk to me.

No way! That’s so funny. What are all your siblings names? Thanks so much for your input!

DH isn’t crazy about [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], so I think he’d prefer it stays in the middle. [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is nice, but still doesn’t feel right. Thought about maybe [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Maybe even [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] - I didn’t think this one would work at first, but it might.

Yes, [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a great alternative that is growing on me. I just worry about [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] because I’m not crazy about the nicknames [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] or [name_f]Dora[/name_f]. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] on it’s own works too. I just wasn’t sure at first. But I’m think it does.

I really appreciate this great input and suggestions! [name_f]Helena[/name_f] is actually on our long list, but neither of us love the name. Can’t quite think of a good nickname other than [name_f]Helen[/name_f] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and I’m not crazy about either. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is lovely! Again though, I worry about nicknames. Not loving [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] or [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]. Not sure of DH’s thoughts on [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] either. It’s one he hasn’t brought up. We have thought about [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Because I was thinking it might be too short next to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. But then again, what he hell… who cares I guess? Trying not to overthink things lol.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is nice. We also thought about [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] bounces from number 1 to number 2 for me, often competing with [name_f]Nora[/name_f].

Saw this post and just jumping in here… [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] or [name_f]Leni[/name_f] could be nicknames for [name_f]Helena[/name_f], and [name_f]Tilda[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f] or [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] could be nicknames for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], though they aren’t as intuitive.

If you like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but are not sold on [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], how about [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]? Might be a little fanciful but I still like it. On the other hand I don’t think [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] is too short next to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] personally.

I love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u], Ted) and [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] ([name_f]Lucy[/name_f]/[name_f]Luci[/name_f])! [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] is nice too although I like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] better ([name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Lou[/name_u]). [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] works well too.

Some other E names:

[name_f]Edwina[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] ([name_f]Winnie[/name_f] could be a cute nn!)
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Estella[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]

If you like [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], what about [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]? Another combo-- [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
