We have been searching for a girl name for this entire pregnancy. Nothing seems to fit right. Something beautiful, multi-syllable with options for nicknames. Something a little different and quirky - but not strange. Lastly, something easy to pronounce and spell.
Then today I saw this name, and it fits all of our requirements, and on top of that we both really like it!!
I kind of like the name itself, though I’d have to think about it a while.
[name]Even[/name] so, I don’t think I’d use it because, especially with the popularity of [name]Isabella[/name], I’m afraid she’d have to constantly be explaining, “No, not [name]Isabella[/name], it’s [name]Elizabella[/name]. Like [name]Elizabeth[/name] only with [name]Bella[/name] at the end instead of [name]Beth[/name].” Which is really too bad, because it is a nice amalgam.
east93- I agree on [name]Grace[/name] - its a nice name but I would probably pick something like [name]Quinn[/name], my husband ADORES [name]Grace[/name] and Im okay with it as a middle Also, I felt with a 5 syllable first name 1 syllable mn would be appropriate…
Let me ask you something: What would you call her? And something else: [name]How[/name] would you pronounce it – like [name]Eliza[/name] with a long i and bella at the end, or like [name]Elizabeth[/name] with bella instead of beth at the end?
It’s exciting that you found a name after a long search that addresses everything on your wish list and that you and your husband both like. But since you’re asking for opinions, I have to assume that you still have some doubts. And so do I.
I’m honestly of two minds about [name]Elizabella[/name]. My first thought is: quirky, cute, fun alternative to two overused names.
My second thought is that it’s too much of a compromise name, transcending the too-popular problem yet offering a lot of disadvantages compared with [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Isabella[/name]. Confusing to pronounce and understand, as people have already pointed out, and so requiring a lifetime of explanation. And since it seems unlikely that you’ll use the full five syllables, I can’t help feeling that if you’re going to actually call her [name]Eliza[/name] or [name]Liza[/name], you’d do better just to name her [name]Eliza[/name]. And if you’re going to call her [name]Belle[/name] or [name]Bella[/name], another [name]Bella[/name] name such as [name]Arabella[/name] or [name]Annabelle[/name] would be better. And if you’re going to call her [name]Liz[/name] or [name]Lizzy[/name], then why not in the end just simplify everyone’s life and name her [name]Elizabeth[/name].
I’m truly torn!!! It’s an adorable name – but I think the down side is significant.
[name]How[/name] about another form of [name]Elizabeth[/name], such as [name]Lilibet[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Lizanne[/name], [name]Betta[/name], [name]Bess[/name], and there are many more.
Have you thought of [name]Graciela[/name]? It’s a Spanish derivation that is pretty common in [name]Argentina[/name]. It sounds stunning in Spanish, although it might sound too foreign with the last name [name]Meier[/name]. The most common pronunciation I’ve heard is grah-cee-ehl-a.
I think [name]Eliza[/name] would be a better option than [name]Elizabella[/name]. All the “bella” names are going to sound tired and dated soon. (Actually, they kind of already do!) [name]Cooper[/name], [name]Jackson[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name] is a pretty perfect sibset. [name]Eliza[/name] seems to check all of your boxes: multisyllabic, beautiful, different without being strange, a bit quirky, a ton of nickname options, and easy to spell and pronounce. And you already have three syllables with [name]Eliza[/name] - tacking bella to the end of it is a whole lot of name. Your daughter herself would probably shorten it once she hit school age.
We would pronounce it like [name]Elizabeth[/name]…
I think we would probably call her by her full name along with a few nicknames (Much like my son [name]Jackson[/name], he goes by [name]Jackson[/name], [name]Jax[/name], [name]Jack[/name]- [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Jack[/name].)
Im not a fan of [name]Bella[/name]. So we would probably use [name]Izzy[/name] or [name]Ella[/name]/ [name]Ellie[/name]
I am asking you berries because you are not emotionally invested and we have had problems with family pressures this time around. Since we have found a name we really like we want to decide before telling family.
The more I think about it, the more I’m regretfully leaning against it. I agree with everything [name]Pam[/name] said (But then I would, [name]Pam[/name] and [name]Linda[/name] have been my name mentors since Beyond [name]Jennifer[/name] and [name]Jason[/name]!).
It’s such a bummer that your husband isn’t on board with any [name]Elizabeth[/name] variant! And you’re right, I’m sure [name]Graciela[/name] would get shortened to [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Gracie[/name], which isn’t ideal if you don’t like either nickname.
I totally see your point, but agree with [name]Pam[/name]. Also i feel like it is such a long name, I don’t think it will be possible to call her by her whole name most of the time. [name]Elizabelle[/name] would be a nice alternative.
I quite like the name [name]Elizabella[/name] [name]Grace[/name]. I think it rolls off the tongue nicely and has a nice ring to it. However, I feel that the name [name]Elizabella[/name] is not so much quirky or spunky, as it is is frilly and princessy which seems to negate your criteria.
