After a lot of internet searching and from suggestions on my previous nameberry posts we present our list for girls names! Middle name will be [name]Evelyn[/name] for family members on both sides of our family (this is unnegotiable) and our surname is Ackers.
My favorites from your list are [name]Julie[/name], [name]Annabel[/name] (my favorite spelling for this name, probably due to EAP), Alive, [name]Natalie[/name], and [name]Jennifer[/name] (I love the nn [name]Jenny[/name] even though it seems dated).
I would have said [name]Elizabeth[/name], however with an E- middle name, I think I would choose another name.
[name]Alice[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] sounds sweet, I don’t think the -e in the end of the first name sounds weird with an E- middle name.
[name]Annabel[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] is my favourite, it sounds complete in a way and it sounds lovely with your last name.
[name]Judith[/name] ([name]Judy[/name]) [name]Evelyn[/name] - I know an old lady [name]Judy[/name].
[name]Julie[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - [name]Julia[/name] seems to have more elegance and substance [name]Annabel[/name] ([name]Annie[/name]) [name]Evelyn[/name] - love anything with the nn [name]Annie[/name], and this flows lovely with [name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Polly[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - Sounds like a doll or a horse or even a nickname for a boy ([name]Paulie[/name])
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - this flows okay, but I’d prefer [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Alice[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - why do the good ones have alliteration? Though [name]Alice[/name] isn’t my favorite name, it flows nicely
[name]Janet[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - Not bad, though dated. [name]Jane[/name], or even [name]Janice[/name] [name]IMO[/name] sounds more modern
[name]Jacqueline[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - rhymes [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - pretty. I don’t like [name]Natalie[/name] that much, but I love this combo
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - not bad, but I feel one could do better
[name]Jennifer[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - sooo many Jennifers…and I’ve never seen the appeal of -er names for girls
[name]Christine[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - [name]Christina[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] might be more modern and flows better
I notice you like J-names. And names more dated. Let’s see…dated J names include…
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Jessica[/name]
[name]Jamie[/name]
[name]Jillian[/name] (though it rhymes with [name]Evelyn[/name])
Oooo…[name]Julie[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Christine[/name]…I love names from those decades, and any of these three would be awesome. I do also love the sound of [name]Polly[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] Ackers. I would be afraid that [name]Christine[/name] would get called [name]Chris[/name] though, a nickname I strongly dislike on a girl. Also, [name]Jen[/name]/[name]Jenn[/name] is very boring to me, but I would [name]LOVE[/name] to see a girl called [name]Jenny[/name]. I love your taste in names overall!
YES:
[name]Judith[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - [name]Judith[/name] is soooo dignified and grown up, but not at all boring. Great choice, great flow.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - yes, two Es, but the emphasis is in [name]Elizabeth[/name] is on that strong [name]LIZ[/name] sound, so it works imo. [name]Elizabeth[/name] has a billion spunky nicknames.
Problematic:
[name]Alice[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] are really fun names. I’m afraid that with [name]Evelyn[/name], and with your last name, it would be a LOT of open sound.
[name]Miriam[/name] and [name]Jacqueline[/name] - both nice names, but with [name]Evelyn[/name] they sound too singsongy for me.
[name]Janet[/name], [name]Christine[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Julie[/name] - these don’t sparkle for me. A bit dated.
[name]Polly[/name]- [name]Kinda[/name] love this one. I hear it in a [name]German[/name] accent, by way of [name]Polly[/name] Peachum in Threepenny [name]Opera[/name]. It does feel very casual next to [name]Evelyn[/name]. Or it makes me think “polyamorous.” I think I’d prefer it as a nickname, for [name]Pomona[/name] or [name]Paulina[/name].
Thankyou! To clarify we pronounce [name]Jacqueline[/name] as jac-(qw)eh-leen so it doesn’t rhyme with EHV-(eh)-lin. [name]Judy[/name] is an all time favourite of mine so thats close to the top of the list!
[name]Annabel[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] are great! The others are NMS. [name]Judith[/name] is a great middle name. I also prefer [name]Jenna[/name], [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Christabel[/name] over [name]Jennifer[/name] and [name]Christine[/name] and [name]Julie[/name].
Since the female version of [name]Evelyn[/name] definitely has three syllables, I’d avoid 3-syllable first names. The opposite of the boys. I would also avoid A names since the alliteration with a name like Ackers can stay over into children’s book territory (i.e. [name]Jenny[/name] Jumps and [name]Annie[/name] Ackers).
Of this list, I don’t think [name]Polly[/name] or [name]Julie[/name] are serious enough to fit with [name]Evelyn[/name], and I also don’t think the ending vowel sound works well with the starting vowel sound in [name]Evelyn[/name]. Therefore, in order of my preference:
I am so excited to see someone considering [name]Julie[/name], not [name]Juliet[/name] or [name]Julia[/name], just [name]Julie[/name]. It’s lovely, and it flows very well with [name]Evelyn[/name] as the mn. [name]Natalie[/name] would be my second choice. Over all great choices, although I really dislike [name]Polly[/name].
I think that is a great list! My name is [name]Julie[/name] and my middle is [name]Elizabeth[/name], but growing up I was always [name]Julie[/name] and my last initial since there were so many other [name]Julie[/name]'s in my class. I do not think you will have to worry about that, though, and I like that all your names are very classic. I really like [name]Alice[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name], I think it flows nicely!
[name]Judith[/name] ([name]Judy[/name])- not wild about it, but probably just not my style.
[name]Julie[/name]- sounds sweet and sophisticated, i think because it makes me think of [name]Julie[/name] Andrews, who is classic imo.
[name]Annabel[/name] ([name]Annie[/name])- love the alliteration. I think alliterative names make people remember them much easier. [name]Annie[/name] ackers is great.
[name]Polly[/name]- the only one on your list I really don’t care for. I want to run the fn and ln together like Pollyackers, then thought of [name]Polly[/name] want a cracker, which may be so old of a phrase that others wouldn’t think of, but thought I’d share.
[name]Miriam[/name]- beautiful name and also very classic. I can easily see a bubbly toddler and a bright young woman with this name.
[name]Alice[/name]- i like this one as well, but maybe the ending of [name]Alice[/name] would blend with the ln and become [name]Ali[/name] Sackers?? Maybe not at all?
[name]Janet[/name]- i kind of like [name]Jane[/name] better than [name]Janet[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t love the sound of the name.
[name]Jacqueline[/name]- very pretty, I’d probably cut it into a nickname almost immediately though, because I’m like that with long names!
[name]Natalie[/name]- a name that has been on my running list since I was 14 or so. I think it has a beautiful flow and is feminine with the -ie ending.
[name]Elizabeth[/name]- another one on my own list! The nn options are endless which I love. As an adult, [name]Elizabeth[/name] Ackers is a very strong, respectable woman’s sort of name in my mind.
[name]Jennifer[/name]- seems a bit dated to me.
[name]Christine[/name]- also like [name]Jennifer[/name], sounds like a '70s-'80s name.
