Wearability of these names?

Which of these recent boy name finds do you find wearable (not necessarily ones you like, just names that could feasibly work irl). Any reasoning as to why/why not is appreciated.

[name_m]Anders[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]
[name_m]Dermot[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Irving[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - (Still too associated with Twilight?)
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m] - (pron. mal-ah-kee)
[name_m]Morris[/name_m]
[name_u]Murray[/name_u]
[name_m]Orson[/name_m]
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_m]Raymond[/name_m]

[name_m]Amias[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Amos[/name_m]
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Booker[/name_m] (all with nn “[name_u]Bo[/name_u]”)
[name_m]Louis[/name_m] vs [name_m]Louie[/name_m] - (spelling; I say them both “loo-ee”)
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] vs [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] - (can [name_u]Nico[/name_u] stand alone?)
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] vs [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]

I think all are very wearable! My personal favourites are [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] (which doesn’t really remind me of twilight), [name_m]Malachy[/name_m] & [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]. The only one I have any doubt about is [name_m]Orson[/name_m] because it reminds me of arson.

Of the bottom list I would pick :
[name_m]Amias[/name_m] - love, am indifferent to [name_m]Amos[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]/[name_m]Booker[/name_m] - love both of these, not a big fan of [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] though and I don’t like [name_m]Bowie[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m] - I pronounce both names [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-ee but this is my preferred spelling
[name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] - I do think [name_u]Nico[/name_u] works alone but [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] is so handsome and then [name_u]Nico[/name_u] could be a nickname so you get to use both names
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m] - This is on my list, I just love it too much! But [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] is also lovely

I think all of them are wearable, although I do think [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] is borderline. [name_m]Orson[/name_m] should be fine with the connection to [name_m]Orson[/name_m] Welles. [name_m]Malachy[/name_m] is definitely wearable; however, there may be pronunciation problems due to the similarity to [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], especially with the current trend of putting a Y where there’s usually an I.

[name_m]Amias[/name_m]
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m] ([name_m]Booker[/name_m] second): these two have the fewest pronunciation problems
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicolai[/name_m]: because it’s a great name; [name_u]Nico[/name_u] probably could stand on its own since [name_u]Niko[/name_u] is the Finnish form of [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] and it’s a short form in a couple of other languages
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]: only because it’s classic; I love these both equally

I think they’re all wearable, I like [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Orson[/name_m], and with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] I don’t think Twilight is a problem at this point.

[name_m]Amias[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]- I love [name_u]Bo[/name_u]/[name_u]Beau[/name_u] as is, but [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] is the nicest out of the options
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]- I say as Loo-ee too. The [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] pronunciation gets to me, but if it’s a real issue, then I don’t think [name_m]Louie[/name_m] is awful.
[name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] (with the [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] spelling) is one of my favourite names, but I do think [name_u]Nico[/name_u] can stand alone and [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] is a bit of a waste if [name_u]Nico[/name_u] is the only name he’d be called. So [name_u]Nico[/name_u] if that’s what he’d be called regardless, and [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] if he’d be [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] and [name_u]Nico[/name_u].
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]

I personally don’t find [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], [name_m]Orson[/name_m], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], or [name_m]Irving[/name_m] very wearable. Most of then sound too old still to me, like they haven’t crossed the barrier between cool old and just old yet. [name_m]Otis[/name_m] is borderline. [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] is the name that everyone in my high school religion class made fun of when we were learning about the Old Testament (to the point where someone said he would name is kids [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], Chewbacca, and [name_f]Topanga[/name_f]…). All the rest I think are fine. My favorites are [name_m]Anders[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] (don’t think of Twilight and took me a minute to even remember who [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] was), [name_m]Bowie[/name_m], [name_u]Murray[/name_u], and [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m].

I automatically pronounced [name_m]Malachy[/name_m] the same as [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]. I don’t know if that’s just my ignorance or if that will happen a lot. I do think [name_u]Nico[/name_u] can stand alone if you want it to, though I slightly prefer the [name_u]Niko[/name_u] spelling. Seems like it has a bit more substance that way, for some reason.

I think they are all very wearable, my favourites are [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] and [name_u]Murray[/name_u]. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] has managed to shirk off the Twilight association for the most part. The only one I’d be even slightly wary of is [name_m]Malachy[/name_m], I think you’ll have to be prepared for people to think you’ve just spelled [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] differently. But that doesn’t make it unwearable.

[name_m]Amos[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]

I think they are all wearable.
[name_u]Murray[/name_u], [name_m]Orson[/name_m] and [name_m]Irving[/name_m] are the least wearable
I really like [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], [name_m]Dermot[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m]

This Or That (Similar Names):
[name_m]Amos[/name_m]
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicolai[/name_m]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]

Most wearable, in my opinion, is [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Orson[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], and [name_m]Raymond[/name_m]. I don’t think of Twilight will be a problem with the name [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] either.

This Or That

[name_m]Amos[/name_m]
[name_m]Bowie[/name_m]
[name_m]Louie[/name_m] (but only because you pronounce it “loo-ee”)
[name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] ( [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name )
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]

I definitely think they are all wearable, though I think [name_m]Orson[/name_m] is the least wearable.

[name_m]Anders[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] are. Are very common in Scandanavia so I think they are useable.

I think they’re all wearable, but [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] don’t strike me as being very versatile. I can’t imagine a non-British [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] or a non-musical [name_m]Otis[/name_m]. I’m also fairly certain that the 50 Shades series has taken Twilight’s place in the “why is this garbage popular?” category of pop culture. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about that.

[name_m]Amias[/name_m]
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]

I think all of these names are wearable. I’d be most surprised to hear [name_m]Morris[/name_m] and [name_m]Orson[/name_m] being used.

[name_m]Amias[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicolai[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]

Well ‘feasible’ wearability is rather broad and subjective. I feel like none of these are out of the question names or have connections so negative they can’t recover from.

[name_m]Anders[/name_m] - feels like it should be reserved for those with a connection to Scandinavia or an [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] namesake. The only person I’ve met with this name was from a country where it was more mainstream
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] - a cool clunky but beware the [name_m]Barney[/name_m] nn potential
[name_m]Dermot[/name_m] - not particularly special or flashy, kinda unpleasant sounding…However would it’s relative [name_m]Kermit[/name_m] be worse? Yes.
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - totally doable, Biblical names are on the rise plus it’s not do unusual no one has heard it or can’t pronounce it
[name_m]Irving[/name_m] - awkward but not really unpleasant. Would need some great connection to bestow this name. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like nn [name_m]Irv[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - besides Twilight, very trendy. His sister would prob be [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] for example. However the nature/gem history may allow it to age well once the trend fades especially if paired with a less trendy sibling or middle
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m] - I know it ends in ‘key’ but because Y has been so overused as a ‘sprucing up’ letter, plus the more common [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], I always say it that way first
[name_m]Morris[/name_m] - decent. Nn would be like [name_u]Maury[/name_u] three tv show host? [name_f]Deal[/name_f] breaker. Like [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] there’s only one person I associate with the name
[name_u]Murray[/name_u] - decent again. But feels old with no actual old charm. Not worth it.
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] - literary…But clunky
[name_m]Otis[/name_m] - a recent starbaby, feels like trying too hard to use an uncommon old name
[name_m]Raymond[/name_m] - great nn ray…But I only think of the tv show.

This Or That (Similar Names)

[name_m]Amias[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Amos[/name_m] - I like [name_m]Amias[/name_m] more, rolls of the tongue a bit easier
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Booker[/name_m] - [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] is so trendy & I feel like it’s the same as naming your kid Sting, [name_f]Cher[/name_f], [name_f]Madonna[/name_f] etc. [name_m]Booker[/name_m] feels like a clash. Book, makes me think of library & academia plus the more action/occupation -er ending just feels unbalanced. [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] is so trendy. [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] wins.
[name_m]Louis[/name_m] vs [name_m]Louie[/name_m] - [name_m]Louie[/name_m] over [name_m]Louis[/name_m] simply for reducing pronunciation problems
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] vs [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] - [name_u]Nico[/name_u] CAN stand alone, I don’t think it should due to it feeling overly nicknamey. [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] vs [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] - both seem uncommon but not unheard of, prefer [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] it feels more grounded

I think they’re all wearable! I especially love [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Booker[/name_m], [name_m]Amias[/name_m], [name_m]Anders[/name_m], [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], and [name_m]Dermot[/name_m]. As for the similar ones:

[name_m]Amias[/name_m] - [name_m]Amos[/name_m] is nice, but I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Amias[/name_m]! He’s so handsome. I love the meaning, too.
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m] - I really, really like [name_m]Booker[/name_m], too, but I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Boaz[/name_m]. My grandma was [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], so I love the idea of having a little [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] “[name_u]Bo[/name_u]” in her honor!
[name_m]Louis[/name_m] - I love the [name_m]French[/name_m] spelling/pronunciation! [name_m]Louie[/name_m] looks too nicknamey to me. I love that [name_m]Louis[/name_m] sounds cute and cuddly, but looks so respectable and wise.
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] - I’ve never gotten into [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m]/Nikolaj/[name_m]Nicolai[/name_m], etc.
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - I like them both about the same, but I like [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] just a little bit more. I like [name_m]Rafael[/name_m] more than [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], I think, but [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] more than [name_m]Raphael[/name_m].

Good luck!

Names I find the most wearable: [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] (not associated with Twilight at all for me), [name_u]Murray[/name_u], and [name_m]Raymond[/name_m].

This Or That:
[name_m]Amias[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] (I also like [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] but it’s VERY associated with the singer)
[name_m]Louie[/name_m] (this spelling removes confusion about pronunciation)
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] (yes it can stand alone!)
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]

Thank you everyone for all the detailed feedback. It really helps me to hear the pros and cons of these names.

I think all are wearable as well.

[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] vs [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]

  1. [name_m]Amos[/name_m]
  2. [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] (I also like [name_m]Booker[/name_m])
  3. [name_m]Louie[/name_m] (Most are going to end up pronouncing [name_m]Louis[/name_m] as [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-iss)
  4. [name_u]Nico[/name_u] ([name_u]Nico[/name_u] can absolutely stand alone. I grew up with a kid named [name_u]Nico[/name_u] who was the nicest person ever)
  5. [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]

[name_m]Anders[/name_m]: wearable. Reminds me of [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], and it has a known nn.
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]: not wearable. I think it would be short to [name_m]Barney[/name_m], and [name_m]Barney[/name_m] reminds of the dinosaur.
[name_m]Dermot[/name_m]: not wearable.
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]: wearable! i [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it.
[name_m]Irving[/name_m]: wearable.
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - (Still too associated with Twilight?): wearable! not associated with Twilight at all imo.
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m] - (pron. mal-ah-kee): wearable, though i dont like it.
[name_m]Morris[/name_m]: wearable.
[name_u]Murray[/name_u]: wearable.
[name_m]Orson[/name_m]: wearable.
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]: wearable.
[name_m]Raymond[/name_m]: wearable.

[name_m]Amias[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Amos[/name_m]: I prefer [name_m]Amias[/name_m].
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Booker[/name_m] (all with nn “[name_u]Bo[/name_u]”): [name_m]Bowie[/name_m]! I love it on both genders! I also like [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] quite a lot.
[name_m]Louis[/name_m] vs [name_m]Louie[/name_m] - (spelling; I say them both “loo-ee”): I prefer [name_m]Louis[/name_m]/
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] vs [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] - (can [name_u]Nico[/name_u] stand alone?): My dads name is [name_u]Nico[/name_u]/[name_u]Niko[/name_u] though its short for [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m]/[name_m]Nikolas[/name_m]. It definitely can stand on its own, though i prefer [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m].
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] vs [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]: I love them both, but [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] makes me swoon every time i see/hear it. Its so artistic and romantic.

They are definitely all wearable! It’s not because a name is too old that it is less wearable IMO (it’s just a question of tastes in this case). For me, a name is not wearable when it has a negative connotation (Adolf, for example) or when you know that the kid is going to be teased and/or struggle all his life because of his name.
I love Orson, Otis & Dermot. I really like Irving, Morris, Barnaby, Jasper (I don’t think of Twilight) & Gideon!
