Hey guys!
So I just started writing a dystopian where the society is very, very religious. Basically, there’s no separation of church and state and parents can only choose religious/spiritual type names.
I thought I would use [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for the male love interest’s name because of the connection to Irish spirituality, but I can’t get past to Throne of Glass association.
Some names of my other characters are:
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
Ideally I would like a name that’s more subtle like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] or that can be shortened to a secular nn. Thanks for any help!
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_m]Abraham[/name_m]
[name_m]Moses[/name_m]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
Bonifatius/[name_m]Bonifaz[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Bo[/name_u])
[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]
[name_m]Pius[/name_m]
Baptist
It’s been a couple of days but I love exercises like this so hopefully you check back!
Assuming you want something distinctively religious sounding but still wearable, here are some suggestions.
[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u] or [name_m]Augie[/name_m]
[name_u]Jericho[/name_u]
Judea
[name_m]Deacon[/name_m]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
Zuriel nn [name_u]Zuri[/name_u]
Abednigo nn [name_m]Abe[/name_m]
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m]
[name_m]Ebeneezer[/name_m] nn [name_m]Eben[/name_m]
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m] nn Phin
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]Crispin[/name_m]
However, if you are going with names like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], I’d wager that most traditional names like those have some saint or religious connection. These don’t sound religious and traditional at all but are names of historical saints:
[name_u]Landry[/name_u]
[name_u]Blaise[/name_u]
[name_u]Aidan[/name_u]
[name_m]Brendan[/name_m]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m]
[name_m]Chad[/name_m]
just a few as an example. If I were you, I’d go with a more extreme name set.
