So, as we narrow our boy name list, I’m realizing we have other name choices that we like that might sound old-mannish to some. I’m looking for similar suggestions that still have strength to them without sounding like a grandfather. This is by no means a complete name list, but here is a mix of some of my favorites & some of the ones i like but i dont think would work as well today. Thanks in advance!
I immediately thought of 2 of my favorites: [name]Winston[/name] & [name]Foster[/name]. They were both on my list, but recently found out we are having a girl!
[name]Walter[/name] (I like [name]Wally[/name] more than [name]Walt[/name])
[name]Arnold[/name] ([name]Arnie[/name], [name]Arno[/name])
[name]Theodore[/name] (I like [name]Ted[/name], [name]Teddy[/name], and [name]Theo[/name] is okay too)
My only trouble helping you out is, I love all your names! On my list of absolute favorites are [name]Lionel[/name], [name]Reuben[/name], and [name]Ernest[/name].
[name]Reuben[/name] - [name]Rufus[/name], [name]Rupert[/name]
[name]Lionel[/name] - [name]Leon[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name] - [name]Theodore[/name] has a similar feel to me with cute nn [name]Teddy[/name] or [name]Theo[/name]
[name]Earnest[/name] - I love [name]Earnest[/name] perhaps because The Importance of Being [name]Earnest[/name], I even knew an [name]Earnest[/name]
[name]Abram[/name] - [name]Abner[/name] or [name]Abe[/name] I think all the variations of [name]Abraham[/name] are pretty trendy right now.
[name]Samuel[/name] - [name]Sam[/name] ??
[name]Clement[/name] - [name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Wallace[/name] - [name]Winston[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name], [name]Ivan[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Simon[/name] are of a similar feel to me.
I think many of these are very wearable , especially [name]Frederick[/name] nn [name]Fred[/name]/[name]Freddie[/name] very cute on a little one but he will grow into his more grown up name. [name]Reuben[/name] is very wearable- I know a toddler and a grown up with this name, quite popular in the uk i believe- i love the meaning of this name also
[name]Samuel[/name] is easy to wear but I guess you are worried about it being popular? it’s a classic though so I wouldn’t worry too much if you love it. (I prefer [name]Reuben[/name] myself )
[name]Wallace[/name] is on my list, as is [name]Earnest[/name]- and I too worry about the wearability of these , but if old fashioned names are back for girls, why not for boys also?
I quite like [name]Reuben[/name] but other suggestions: [name]Ben[/name]/[name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Beau[/name], [name]Rene[/name]…
[name]Lionel[/name]
Again, I have no problem with [name]Lionel[/name]. I quite like it. [name]Leo[/name]/[name]Lio[/name], [name]Leonardo[/name], [name]Lorenzo[/name], [name]Neil[/name], [name]Noel[/name], [name]Eli[/name], [name]Ellis[/name],…
And just some off the top of my head:
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Lewis[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Desmond[/name]
[name]George[/name]
[name]Luther[/name]
[name]Ralph[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]
[name]Darcy[/name]
Thank you all for your suggestions! We’ve got some fresh juices flowing now!
It’s funny, after hearing so much affirmation, I think I am really leaning towards [name]Reuben[/name] or [name]Lionel[/name] as my personal favorites, & DH likes [name]Reuben[/name] best.
I appreciate the suggestions- I’m almost 37 weeks so we should probably decide on names soon!
