Actually, here’s why and when they started naming winter storms. JK. http://www.weather.com/news/why-we-name-winter-storms-20121001

Wow. There’s a lot of Greek and [name]Roman[/name] names there. And Yogi??

Thanks for posting the list – I didn’t see it yet! We wrote something for the Weather [name]Channel[/name] on the name [name]Sandy[/name] and hope to contribute the Nameberry view on the names.

Whoa, there are some seriously awesome names on this list! [name]Xerxes[/name], Triton, [name]Zeus[/name], Khan and [name]Brutus[/name] sound like EPIC snowstorms! Yogi, [name]Iago[/name] and [name]Virgil[/name] just sound really really cold and icey. [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Nemo[/name] however, sound really cosy. Interesting! Thanks for posting the list!

They seem to be choosing very unusual names for the storms.

As a [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings fan, I am surprised to see [name]Gandolf[/name] on the list! Maybe since the Hobbit movie is coming out they got inspiration from the lotr chatter?
