[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys, I’m new here. [name_f]My[/name_f] wife [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] and I are expecting our first in about a month and are still torn on names. It’s tough! the middle and last name will be: [name_u]James[/name_u] Welland
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m] - great name and meaning - I’d spell it [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], as [name_m]Malachy[/name_m] wouldn’t have the ‘Kai’ pronunciation at the end
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] - cool and charming, gentle but breezy
[name_u]Beau[/name_u] - warm, stylish and handsome
[name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] - I prefer just [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] (international and cool). [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] feels tied to one person and a bit clunky?
[name_u]August[/name_u] - warm, vintage-but-fresh, and outdoorsy!
I think [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] sound best with middle and surname!
So I think where you are in the world may make a difference - I’m in the UK . To me [name_m]Malachy[/name_m] is quite a beachy name, and a bit to trendy for where I live , but pleasant and interesting.
[name_u]August[/name_u] I keep seeing on boards and find really heart-warming, but not sure I’d be brave enough to choose it myself, mainly because I’m not sure about nicknames. I’m not keen on gus but [name_u]Augie[/name_u] would be cute.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] is in my own name list for boys - I don’t know what I’m having yet, but [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is a top contender for my first child. I really love [name_u]Jude[/name_u].
[name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] - I could definitely warm too - because rudy is cute, but I do keep thinking in my head of reindeer. I think this is partly because I have no reference for Rudy’s in the real world, but you know the more I say it the more I really do like it. It feels sort of cosy and snuggly, warm and approachable and it has the literary connection so it’s a bit classy, and makes me imagine a thoughtful, intelligent and kind child. I can imagine being friends with a [name_u]Rudy[/name_u]. I may have to add this name to my list, so thank you for sharing
[name_u]Beau[/name_u] I actively dislike because my grandparents and and older friends in this part of the world use beau , or bo as a colloquial way to say boyfriend. They say “Oh so that’s her latest beau… don’t think much of him”.
Malachy ~ I prefer Malachi and I think Malachi with the nickname Kai makes more sense. Malachy has a different pronunciation the name is Mal uh key and is popular within Scotland/Ireland. The nickname Malky is what’s used over Kai in Scotland/Ireland. I do like Malachy he feels soft, beachy and outdoorsy.
Jude ~ I really like this name he’s bright, joyous and feels fashionable. I would use Jude but due too negative connotations with Judaism (my mothers religion) I couldn’t use him. But I think Jude is fab.
Beau ~ feels very fashionable, handsome and stylish. I think Beau is lovely. I’ve also been crushing on Beaumont.
Rudyard ~ a bit stodgy and serious. I also feel that Rudyard feels very tied to one person. I prefer Rudy feels more relaxed.
August ~ another fashion forward name very stylish that has a vintage, warm summery feel. I like the nickname Gus as well.
thanks for your response! because of you, we’ve also now been actively considering [name_m]Beaumont[/name_m]! I love how it means “beautiful mountain” which suits us nicely, as we go trekking in mountains for weeks on end all over the world, and will be bringing the little one on adventures soon too!
