That’s another old lady for you, Svea;) in a lot of these names, G is pronounced not harsh as in Greta, but soft like Y. Ingegerd is pronounced like this. Ing, like Inga, is pronounced like ing in the word ‘sing’. Hjördis is an exotic one! It’s very difficult to explain and I’m not good at describing Swedish phonetically in English, so for you to have an idea of how this sound, I think it’s easiest for you to copy the name and put it in Google translate, from Swedish to English, and press the listening button. It’s not all that great, but I think it’s the best way actually.
Majken is pronounced like MAY-ken (J in Swedish always equals Y in English. In the particular case of all the Maj- names, it’s pronounced more like MAI actually, kind of a ‘broader’ sound. Oh I’m terrible at this. Write Maj in google translate too, to give you an idea).
Solveig is pronounced SOL-VAY, just change the W in ‘way’ to V and you have the sound there.
Majvor is MAY-vor, vor simply being said as it is.
Birgitta is said with a hard G-sound.
Alinde is Ah-LIND-e.
Dagny is said like DAHNG-ny.
Ingeborg (INGE-borg) has two soft Gs.
Dagmar actually was my great grandmother, mother of Florence Viola (my mothers mom :))
I think Estrid is a good alternative to Astrid, it hasn’t the ass- connotation;) Sigrid is another good option there (prn. with a hard G).
