This is a conversation I had with a woman a few months ago.
Lady: What’s your name?
Me: My name is [name_f]Erin[/name_f]
Lady: [name_m]Hi[/name_m] [name_f]Caren[/name_f]
Me: No, it’s [name_f]Erin[/name_f]
Lady: So, [name_f]Caren[/name_f]…
I get called [name_f]Caren[/name_f] a lot, but people usually get it when I correct them. Not this lady though. LOL. My brother is [name_u]Shaun[/name_u], but he’s been called [name_u]Shane[/name_u] before.
I’m a [name_f]Renee[/name_f]. And when I introduce myself to children or old people, I use my first name, [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Why? Because I’ve been called Grenade entirely too often. But it’s really not too annoying, because it is hilarious when there’s a pack of five year olds chanting “Grenade” in saecula saeculorum after they meet you : )
My name is [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] (pronounced like [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] [name_m]Manning[/name_m] – “Tehr-in”) and I get a lot of “[name_f]Tara[/name_f]” and “[name_f]Karen[/name_f].” Usually when someone is simply reading my name they don’t even try, they just spell it out, which I think is fantastic lol. But when people do try to pronounce it I usually get “[name_m]Tah[/name_m]-reen,” “Thai-rain,” “Tar-rhine,” and for some reason “[name_m]Ty[/name_m]-ran.” Those people are just dyslexic I tell people to just pronounce it like you’re tearin’ a piece of paper!
My name is pronounced [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lee-sha. I get called [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] from clients all the time. People misspell my name more than anything [name_f]Aleesha[/name_f], [name_f]Alysha[/name_f], [name_f]Alysha[/name_f] just to mention a few. People say [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-liss-see-a or A-liss-a drives me nuts! My daughter gets [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] a few times but that’s understandable and my other daughter gets called Uh-vuh-lee like [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] but it’s [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-lee as in [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_u]Gardner[/name_u].
I’m [name_f]Julia[/name_f]. I’ve gotten [name_u]Julie[/name_u] (A LOT!!) [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_u]Julianne[/name_u], [name_f]Julianna[/name_f], and [name_m]Julian[/name_m] (yes, the boys name). I get these all the time, especially in Starbucks and other like places. I had a lunch lady call me [name_f]Julianna[/name_f] for 3 straight years before she got it!
I typically get called [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], even by the people I told the correct pronunciation to. Other than that the weirdest one I’ve heard is Olivera…There is no ‘era’ in [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]!
My name is [name_u]Harley[/name_u]. A lot of times during school my teachers would call me [name_u]Haley[/name_u]. They would forget the ‘R’. Then whenever I introduced myself, apparently [name_u]Harley[/name_u] always sounds like [name_f]Carly[/name_f] or there would be no ‘H’ at all and they could call me [name_u]Arley[/name_u]. I’ve even gotten a [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] when giving my name to someone, don’t know how with that one though, lol. I had a friend in school, her name was [name_f]Meri[/name_f] (as in [name_f]Marie[/name_f]) but everyone would call her [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I don’t know if this is a mispronunciation but my mom’s name is [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] (just [name_f]Peggy[/name_f]) but throughout school her teachers thought her name was [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (since [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] is a nickname). I guess she use to get called down to the office all the time because there was a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and my mom’s name was [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u].
I agree with you there… and i swear sometimes ppl try to emphasise the EE part just to annoy!! [name_m]Dan[/name_m]-yell not dani-yell lol people call me dan alot which im glad about then i get the daniel…< thats a pee take- Ummm… ohh the spelling i spell it Dani (the 1st 4 letters in my name) but nooo… I get Dannie/ danie/ danny/ or Dany!
yes ok i used to spell it Dannii… (until i saw dannii minogue spelt it that way I stopped!)
i DONT MIND the nicknames. Danio, Dano, Dee they aint too bad!! :))
