Our son arrived on [name_u]June[/name_u] 12 by emergency caesarean after his heart rate repeatedly dropped during labor. Despite a traumatic birth experience, he is healthy and I am recovering. We drove family and friends mad during pregnancy by not “revealing” his name. We didn’t actually decide on it until we saw him. We went to the hospital with a short list of first name options and thankfully his name was clear when we laid eyes on him. (I had vowed to decide before leaving the hospital but secretly worried I would still feel torn.) He is [name_m]Soren[/name_m] [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]. [name_m]Soren[/name_m] feels both strong and sensitive, has a certain gravitas and flexibility, and goes well with the two surnames he carries. [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] is in honor of my grandfather. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom was moved to tears by this! Soren’s name is received warmly by some, tepidly by others, and to my surprise, with a lot of confusion about pronunciation and spelling. I thought it was pretty straightforward, haha. Anyway, my partner and I think it suits him and people seem to be warming up to the name as it becomes identified with the baby.
