Welsh and Latin baby girl names--any suggestions?

[name]Do[/name] you have any more suggestions on Welsh and/or Latin names for girls?

I’m looking for names that mean Triumphant, Victorious, [name]Miracle[/name], [name]Love[/name], [name]Beloved[/name], etc. [name]Don[/name]'t yet know the sex of our baby, but will find out in about 2 weeks. I can’t wait! While we think we have a boy name picked out (thanks to so much feedback!), we’re still not sure for girls.

Here is my top choice of the moment: [name]Carys[/name] [name]Wynne[/name] ([name]Love[/name]/ Fair, Blessed).

Welsh names meaning [name]love[/name]/[name]beloved[/name]:

[name]Angharad[/name] = an-hah-rad
Annwyl = an-wil
Carwen = kah-wen
[name]Carys[/name] = ka-riss (ka like cat)
[name]Cerys[/name] = ke-riss
Mabli = mab-lee
Rhiangar = ree-an-gar

Most are on Forvo, if you want to hear Welsh people saying them :slight_smile:

[name]Berenice[/name] (Latin; bringing victory)
[name]Victoria[/name] (Latin; victory)
Amebel (Latin; loveable)
Amatrix (Latin; sweetheart)
[name]Angharad[/name] (Welsh; love)

I can give you a few Latin words, but nothing Welsh. They might not be quite the right definitions, but I like them as names or for their meanings. I’ll put this sign by ones that are good: ”

”Talaria- winged sandals

To say love, there are several words you can use:
Amo
Amas
Amatis
Amavi
Amor
Amoris
Amavero
Amaveris
Amaveritis
Amori
Amores

Or, you could just use Amanda, which probably translates to about the same thing!
Hope that long list helps!

Thanks for all the ideas!!!

[name]Just[/name] wanted to chime in and say I absolutely love your current favorite: [name]Carys[/name] [name]Wynne[/name]! So beautiful! [name]Carys[/name] is on my Top 5 list too but I can’t seem to convince the hubs. We adore Welsh, Irish and Gaelic names but I have to admit I do worry about pronunciation issues since we currently live here in the U.S. :slight_smile:

I think it’d be hard to do much better than your current number one. [name]Carys[/name] [name]Wynne[/name] is spectacular.

Here are a few Latin ones (as it turns out [name]Carys[/name] is the only Welsh name I have on my rather limited female name list. Have a lot of Greek though, if that becomes helpful):

[name]Aurelia[/name] (Latin = golden)
[name]Celeste[/name] (Latin = heavenly)
[name]Aurora[/name] (Latin = dawn)
[name]Cerelia[/name] (Latin = relating to spring)
[name]Eulalia[/name] (Latin = sweet-speaking)
[name]Oriana[/name] (Latin = dawn)
[name]Lucia[/name] (Latin = light)
[name]Annora[/name] (Latin = honor)
[name]Viviana[/name] (Latin = life)
[name]How[/name] about Cornish? [name]Senara[/name] (light)

my daughter’s name is latin and means [name]Beloved[/name]. - [name]Amy[/name]. I’m welsh and I love [name]Angharad[/name] & [name]Cerys[/name].

[name]Carys[/name] [name]Wynne[/name] is a phenomenal choice.

I believe that most Welsh names with wen in it means blessed something.
I would suggest my own Welsh name, but it means holy.

[name]Betrys[/name] (beatrice)

Thank you for these lovely choices!

Yes, my oldest daughter’s name is Amaré–it means “to love” in Latin, the present active infinitive, I believe. We put the accent mark because we wanted it pronounced Amma-RAY. I’m sure that’s not the Latin pronunciation, but we love it. :slight_smile:

I really love some of these options! Thank you, all! Please keep contributing if you have anything new!

Nope.

[name]Eira[/name] - ay-ra
Eirlys - ayr-lis

[name]Eirene[/name] < This is Greek O_o

Yes, that is the infinitive of love! In Latin, all the syllables are equally stressed (ah-mah-ray), but it does look and sound nice with the accent.
