Been thinking about this one for a while now… What does everyone think? Rach x
The only [name]Wendell[/name] I know is an elderly man, so it’s kind of hard for me to imagine this on a little boy. I think it would make an unusual and bold choice.
Although [name]Wendell[/name] “sounds” feminine, where I live in [name]Canada[/name], it is associated with a strong and masculine hockey player named [name]Wendell[/name] [name]Clark[/name]. It’s not my style but I’ve heard worse.
I think of the song “Mr. [name]Wendell[/name]” by the group Arrested Development, which is about an elderly black man. If I heard someone use [name]Wendell[/name] today, I’d assume it was a family name. I don’t hate it, but it’s not for me.
It’s not at the top of my name list, but it’s kind of a dark horse for me that I find myself liking more and more. I like W names. It’s different, he would like be the only [name]Wendell[/name] in his class, yet it is a legitimate name. I think its a cool choice. And I’m also veryfond of the [name]Dell[/name] nickname.
I’m in Australia, so the only thing that comes to mind when I hear the name [name]Wendell[/name] is the [name]Rugby[/name] League player [name]Wendell[/name] [name]Sailor[/name] - so the connotations for me are big buff athlete! I think it’s familiar but not common, and as the previous poster said, you can use the nickname [name]Dell[/name] instead of [name]Wendy[/name] or similar. [name]Just[/name] remember though that kids can be cruel, and he may not be able to escape the [name]Wendy[/name] taunts. Apart from this, I really like it - uncommon enough not to be old man fusty but still familiar.
Good luck!
The name [name]Wendell[/name] reminds me of raspberries. My great-grandfather’s name was [name]Wendell[/name], and he had raspberry patches in his yard, so I’m sure that’s where I get the association from. I’d like to see a name like [name]Wendell[/name] make a comeback. Can’t say that I’d consider using it though.
Thanks everyone, Would be brother to [name]Sidney[/name]… I quite like [name]Sid[/name] and [name]Dell[/name] together! I do agree the [name]Wendy[/name] thing would be a problem!! Rach x
My brother is a [name]Wendell[/name], so I love the name! He really just goes by his full name, but if you made [name]Dell[/name] the nickname I think it would stick just fine. I don’t really remember him getting much teasing about it; I think people called him “Windmill” a couple of times in elementary school. It’s a good name because it’s familiar, but it can’t really be called an “old man name.” I mean, how many old men do you know named [name]Wendell[/name]? I just don’t think it’s ever been common enough to be dated.
My grandfather’s name was [name]Wendell[/name]. If he were alive right now, he would be 112. (I’m barely 26).
But it is not dated like 80s wedding dresses are dated. It’s more like a cool vintage name, like [name]Harris[/name] and [name]Esther[/name] (but I might be biasedly suggesting those two, because they were my other grandparents’ names…).
I think [name]Dell[/name] is an excellent nickname for [name]Wendell[/name]. My grandfather was called [name]Mac[/name], for his last name. No one could think of anything else, I guess, so good work…
I love it! I think it is a cool vintage name. Clearly a name for athletes (from what’s on here), but also makes me think of groovy alternative musician or surfie types, something like [name]Dylan[/name] but a bit more unique; or even something a bit more upper crust if it wanted to be. Not a name I think that would cause too may problems in life.
Get’s my vote!
