So DH and I finally caved and we’re getting a pet cat. I know very little about cats, I’m a dog person. It’s a “Russian [name_u]Blue[/name_u]” cat we are getting from our neighbor who is moving away. It’ll be an outside cat.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] thought we could come up with a great name for it! It’s a boy, of course all grey coat. I think we want a more uncommon “person name” for our cat, so somewhere between [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] and Cupcake. lol. DH thinks something Russian might be cool but we definitely aren’t set on it.
Frontrunner for name right now is [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]/[name_u]Konstantin[/name_u].
I know I didn’t give much idea taste-wise, but that’s because I don’t have much of a style when it comes to animal names. I’d love to hear any/all ideas!
[name_u]Constantine[/name_u] is great, but as a cat owner I’d suggest a nickname you can shorten it to as you’ll be calling it all the time! Something with two syllables works best as cats respond to the change in intonation.
If you like the idea of a Russian name, what about a ‘stereotypical’ one like [name_m]Viktor[/name_m] or [name_m]Igor[/name_m] so people get the joke?
Hmm, I really like [name_m]Igor[/name_m]! Thanks! And yeah, we’d definitely nickname him, likely even if his name is short (in my family, every pet has 10,000 nicknames!) If we went with [name_u]Constantine[/name_u], he would be [name_m]Costa[/name_m] most of the time, plus whatever nicknames my sons give him. If we went with [name_m]Igor[/name_m], I love the idea of [name_m]Iggy[/name_m]!
[name_m]Costa[/name_m] is a good nickname [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like [name_m]Igor[/name_m] too.
We have three cats, two we got as kittens and a rescue who was about a year old when he came to us, so if you need any cat tips then please feel free to message me. [name_m]How[/name_m] old is [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]/[name_m]Igor[/name_m]?
My neighbors guess that he’s about 3 years old, they got him a little over a year ago as a rescue. They named him [name_u]Amory[/name_u], but that’s not going to work for us as we’ve got a dog named [name_u]America[/name_u].
I think we’re leaning towards [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] ([name_m]Igor[/name_m]) as his name at the moment, thanks so much for your suggestions! We get him next week. And I just might ask you some cat advice! Thank you!
A dog named [name_u]America[/name_u]? Awesome! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any other pets, I’d love to hear their names
What about [name_m]Boris[/name_m], [name_u]Sacha[/name_u], [name_m]Titus[/name_m], [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m], [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], [name_m]Sergei[/name_m] or [name_m]Yuri[/name_m], I think [name_m]Yuri[/name_m] is quite cute
Thanks so much for your suggestions! I like quite a few! Our cat list as of now is:
[name_m]Igor[/name_m], nn [name_m]Iggy[/name_m]
[name_u]Constantine[/name_u], nn [name_m]Costa[/name_m]
[name_m]Boris[/name_m]
[name_m]Sergei[/name_m]
Originally he was [name_m]Captain[/name_m] [name_u]America[/name_u], but most of the time he’s just [name_u]America[/name_u] now, or [name_f]Meri[/name_f] (a little feminine when you think about it, but we like it anyway ).
We just gave away one of our dogs in [name_u]January[/name_u], he was very old and we couldn’t take care of him like he needed anymore. He was so sweet though, so good with the kids! He was actually a firehouse dog that we took in when he “retired.” His name was [name_m]Baxter[/name_m].
I have a British shorthair cat (they look like the Russian [name_u]Blue[/name_u], but with more squashed faces). I called him Shackleton after [name_m]Ernest[/name_m] Shackleton, the explorer, and also because it sounded like a grumpy name to go with his craggy face ha ha.
I love [name_m]Igor[/name_m], I think it would suit that breed of cat!
I’d pick [name_f]Alyosha[/name_f] or [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]. [name_f]Alyosha[/name_f] is a Russian nickname. I think I remember it from a Dostoyevski novel.
[name_f]Stormy[/name_f] since the cat is gray! Or [name_u]Blue[/name_u] if he’s a Russian [name_u]Blue[/name_u]. I also have a pet cat. (Mine is indoor and outdoor though.) They’re so cute! ” I’ve never had a dog but other people in my family do. I like the name [name_u]Constantine[/name_u], you could call him [name_f]Conny[/name_f] or [name_m]Stan[/name_m] for short?

[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_m]Sylvester[/name_m] ‘Syl’. - This would be better if he was black&white cat.
[name_u]Dusty[/name_u]
[name_m]Ron[/name_m]
[name_f]Misty[/name_f]
Mittens
Some of those aren’t actually names but it’s hard for me to think of cat names especially male cat names, so I like names like Dusty. x3
He has been named! He is [name_m]Igor[/name_m], though we mostly call him [name_m]Iggy[/name_m]. His namesake is [name_m]Igor[/name_m] Stravinsky (though we picked the name [name_m]Igor[/name_m] before we decided it was after the composer, lol).
[name_u]June[/name_u] is seriously the most perfect name for that breed! (I may of had to google to see what the breed looks like, don’t judge me. haha)
