Hello! First-time poster to this forum. We found out a few weeks ago that we’re having boy. We’re thrilled! So far things seem to be going well, so now we’re starting to focus on names. I had it in my head that it was going to be a girl, only because I kept thing girl names during the whole first trimester and beginning of the second tri. So now I feel like we’re starting at square one!
We already have a nine-year-old son, whose name is [name]Mason[/name] [name]Raymond[/name]. (Our choice of [name]Mason[/name] happened [name]WAY[/name] before the Kardashian craze, and [name]Raymond[/name] is in memory of my grandfather). I’m having such a hard time with this… finding a great name that suits a little boy but that transitions well into a man’s name can be a challenge! When I was pregnant with [name]Mason[/name] I originally wanted his name to be [name]Jack[/name], but we changed our minds. I still really like [name]Jack[/name], but it’s not my number one choice anymore (plus I know a lot of Jacks at my son’s school). I’d rather not pick a name that is too popular, but I may need to just forget about that and find one we both actually agree on!
I would have picked [name]Calvin[/name], but that’s my husband’s name (and he doesn’t want a junior). Our last name is Kalscheuer (pronounced [name]Kal[/name]-sure), so it needs to flow with that.
Not sure of a middle name yet. My grandma’s maiden name was [name]Hopper[/name], so I wouldn’t mind using that, but I haven’t even asked my husband yet. My son votes for [name]Josh[/name], but that’s my brother’s name, and I also like [name]Eli[/name], but my husband’s cousin already has a son named [name]Eli[/name].
The name on your list that I think sounds best with your last name is [name]Keaton[/name] (I [name]LOVE[/name] alliteration…my name is alliterative and lots of people have complimented it). I think [name]Keaton[/name] Kalscheuer sounds amazing and memorable.
I don’t think [name]Jack[/name] works well with your last name, since the K in [name]Jack[/name] would run into the K in Kalscheuer.
I’ve heard lots of negative comments on the name [name]Cohen[/name], as it seems to be offensive to Jewish people, so I recommend steering clear of that one.
[name]Cole[/name] Kalscheuer also sounds fantastic because of the K sound, and my other favorites are [name]Nolan[/name], [name]Miles[/name], and [name]Reid[/name].
I’m still debating how I feel about -er ending names with your last name. If I like it - then I like [name]Xavier[/name]. If not then I like [name]Miles[/name]
I also would steer clear from [name]Cohen[/name], and I also don’t like [name]Mercer[/name] with your surname because the -cer -sure endings end up making it sound odd to me.
I really like [name]Miles[/name], [name]Nolan[/name], [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] with your last names. [name]Miles[/name] is probably my favorite but I don’t know if you want to use the same initial as your first son. It might be nice to use [name]Calvin[/name] as a middle name. If you decide to do that, it find of rules out [name]Nolan[/name] because of the flow.
Oh, I never even thought of how [name]Jack[/name] ends in “k” and that it may run right into the first initial of our last name… thanks for pointing that out! I’m also torn about names that end in -er, since our last name ends in -er. Also not sure about names that start in “M,” since we already have an M name, but thought I’d leave it all on the list for the sake of brainstorming in case those names served as the inspiration for something else. So refreshing to hear other perspectives and see additional suggestions – I really appreciate it!
I just found out today that [name]Cohen[/name] may have negative connotations. I absolutely had no idea, and I really hope no one took offense to it. If so, I sincerely apologize. I saw that name choice on someone else’s list and it struck me as unique. I’ll remove that name from the list.
So many great thoughts… I definitely need to ponder! Maybe my husband can help me pair this down so that I can get an idea of what he likes, too (he continues to be non-committal – LOL!). I may be back with a short list!
If there are any other thoughts, I’d love to hear them! And thanks again, everyone – I appreciate it!
