You have good taste! Some thoughts and suggestions.
[name]Julian[/name] - Nice! [name]Will[/name] ring feminine to some, and maybe not great for nicknames. But a handsome name that sounds great with your last name.
[name]Elliot[/name] - I like this name a lot. I’m not sure it fits the easy to spell bill as I think lots of people use the spelling [name]Elliott[/name] and variations with only one l are probably out there too. I’ve also read on these boards it’s beginning to be used for girls because all the [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name] stuff is so popular. It is also a little more trendy than [name]Julian[/name]. Sounds good with your last name.
[name]Oliver[/name] - I like this name a lot too. Easy to spell. It is kind of popular in some parts I think. Goes well with your last name, although I like [name]Julian[/name] and [name]Elliott[/name] a little more, somehow.
[name]Adele[/name] - very pretty! I do think there will be occasional spelling issues ([name]Adell[/name], mainly). Also has a certain amount of trendiness.
[name]Harriet[/name] - I don’t find this name pretty, and yet I do find it charming! Definitely not so trendy, and love nns [name]Hallie[/name] and [name]Etta[/name]. Easy to spell. Has some real pinache with your last name.
[name]Vera[/name] - this is one of my personal favorites. I think it’s easy to spell. Works well enough with your last name, but I think [name]Harriet[/name] works better (maybe the three syllable thing).
[name]Florence[/name] - this is pretty, but to my ears a little dated. Also, with your last name it is a little like two cities (don’t think you have to rule it out for that, just a point).
[name]Do[/name] you like?
[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Verena[/name]
[name]Flora[/name]
i love [name]Jude[/name]. probably more so than [name]Julian[/name]. But hubby likes [name]Jules[/name] better than [name]Jude[/name] and [name]Julian[/name] seemed to be the best compromise.
hubby doesn’t like [name]Walter[/name], [name]Everette[/name].
[name]Adelaide[/name] sounds too southern country for my tastes. I’ve never heard of [name]Verena[/name]. I’m not sure how you would say it.
[name]Margaret[/name] has a lot of meaning for me; my grandmother’s name and my best friend from college. I would love to use it as a middle name.
[name]Flora[/name] is my favorite nick name for [name]Florence[/name]. I’m not sure i like it on it’s own.
Thank you for the thoughts and suggestions! i really appreciate it.
I think your list is pretty great. Here are my thoughts:
[name]Julian[/name]–> I really like this. I think it ages well for a boy.
[name]Elliot[/name]–> One of my all-time favourites, love it!
[name]Oliver[/name]–> I really like this name. In my particular area it’s quite popular, which for me is a bit of an issue but I know why it’s popular because it’s a great name.
[name]Adele[/name]–> This is my #1 choice right now if my baby is a girl. It hits all the right notes with me…beautiful, classy, will age well, good nickname potential
[name]Harriet[/name]–> I like it. I’ve never thought about it before, but it’s cute.
[name]Vera[/name]–> The only name on your list I’m not thrilled about. It just seems kind of musty to me.
[name]Florence[/name]–> [name]Love[/name] it. My great Aunt is named [name]Florence[/name] and we always called her “Flornie”. My friend had a [name]Florence[/name] two years ago and they call her “[name]Florrie[/name]”. There is also a “[name]Flossie[/name]” we know.
Other names that popped into my head were:
BOY: [name]Noel[/name], [name]Edwin[/name], [name]Owen[/name], [name]Philip[/name], [name]Evan[/name]
GIRL: [name]Flora[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Estelle[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Philippa[/name] ([name]Pippa[/name])
I like [name]Owen[/name], [name]Daphne[/name] & [name]Alice[/name], alas… hubby doesn’t. he’s very picky!
I’ve started to fall for [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Eames[/name], but he hates both of them.
The only two that we’re really in agreement about is [name]Julian[/name] & [name]Harriet[/name] (though it’s probably a tie for me between [name]Harriet[/name] and [name]Adele[/name]), which i guess is fine for figuring out the first kid.
My husband’s family has NO BOYS. literally there are no boys on his entire side of the family, up through his great grandpa. I’m not really fighting for any of the girl names because i’m convinced that we will never have a girl .
We’ve decided not to know the sex of the baby so we’ll have to have at least one name for each gender picked out, though i’d like to have more than one.
