Were trying for #2! let's talk names!

DH and I just decided last night to start trying right away for baby #2! I’m so excited and I wanna get started driving myself crazy about names!
Our daughter’s name is [name]Virginia[/name] “nia” [name]June[/name] Mcmann
Names we’ve liked/considered in the past
[name]Seraphina[/name] (is this getting popular?)

I love unusual vintage names with spunky nicknames. My husband likes vintage names that are not too unusual (in other words classics!)What comes to mind?

[name]How[/name] about for girls:

[name]Virginia[/name] [name]June[/name] is beautifully classic! Amazing choice!
For a brother, i like your suggestion of [name]Everett[/name]. We were considering it ourselves and i think it sounds really cool with [name]Virginia[/name]. His nn could be [name]Rhett[/name] which is super masculine - [name]Nia[/name] & [name]Rhett[/name] are adorable together! Other brother suggestions would be:
[name]Wilfred[/name] “[name]Wills[/name] or [name]Freddie[/name]”
[name]Arthur[/name] '[name]Art[/name]" - [name]Nia[/name] & [name]Art[/name] is superb!
[name]Willoughby[/name] - Virgina & [name]Willoughby[/name] are AMAZING - [name]Nia[/name] & [name]Wilkie[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] “[name]Lex[/name]”
[name]Frederick[/name] '[name]Freddie[/name] or [name]Red[/name]"
[name]Theodore[/name] “[name]Teddy[/name]”
[name]Nathaniel[/name] “[name]Nate[/name]”
[name]Wolfgang[/name] 'Wolfie" - [name]Virginia[/name] & Wolfgange sounds super cool siblings…but too Virgnia Woolfe?

As for your girl suggestions - they seem…i don’t know…but not the best match with [name]Virginia[/name]. [name]Sylvia[/name] i might be able to see working, but i think there are some better options out there! :
[name]Winifred[/name] “[name]Winnie[/name]” or even the spunky [name]Freddie[/name] on a girl!
[name]Florence[/name] “[name]Flora[/name]”
[name]Eloise[/name] “[name]Elle[/name]” - Virgina & [name]Eloise[/name] is super sweet!
[name]Genevieve[/name] “[name]Evie[/name]” - Viginia & [name]Genevieve[/name] are made for each other! [name]Nia[/name] & [name]Evie[/name] is amazing as well!
[name]Imogen[/name] “[name]Immy[/name]”
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] “[name]Minnie[/name]”
[name]Sophia[/name] “[name]Poppy[/name]”
[name]Beatrix[/name] “[name]Bea[/name] or [name]Trixie[/name]”

[name]How[/name] is the list so far?

I know I should love [name]Mabel[/name] but Ijust can’t dig it. I do like Luelle, though. I’ll add that to the list. I love langston, but i always just think of langston hughes, who i have no attachment to. I like [name]Soren[/name] too!

[name]Virginia[/name] [name]June[/name] is so cute! Is “[name]Nia[/name]” pronounced like [knee-uh], [nigh-uh], or [nya]? I’m just curious…

[name]Adelaide[/name] - [name]Ada[/name], [name]Addie[/name], [name]Del[/name], Lady
[name]Briony[/name] - [name]Brie[/name], [name]Bebe[/name]

[name]Harriet[/name] - [name]Hattie[/name], [name]Ettie[/name], [name]Etta[/name], [name]Harrie[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name] - [name]Issy[/name], [name]Izzy[/name], [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Dora[/name], [name]Dori[/name]

[name]Rosaline[/name] - [name]Rose[/name], [name]Rosa[/name], [name]Rosy[/name], [name]Sal[/name], [name]Lin[/name], [name]Lina[/name]

Yep, I’m better at girls than boys, but just a few for boys - [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Abraham[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Donovan[/name], [name]Dorian[/name], [name]Eliot[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Edmund[/name], [name]Frederick[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Julian[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Lionel[/name], [name]Maxwell[/name], [name]Nathaniel[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Orson[/name], [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Peter[/name], [name]Russell[/name], [name]Remington[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Simon[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Thaddeus[/name], [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Vincent[/name], [name]Victor[/name], [name]William[/name], or [name]Wyatt[/name]?

[name]Lemon[/name]

Iwant to love the nn [name]Rhett[/name] for all the reasons you listed. And i love Gone with the Wind (when I turn a blind eye to the rampant racism). I esp love [name]Rhett[/name] butler! but teh name just doesn’t role off my tongue and I think it sounds a little bit like wretch. I think I would go with the nn [name]Ever[/name]. Has that name gone to the girls or is it still unisex?
I love [name]Frederick[/name] nn freddy but dh hates it
I think i"m gonna save the nn teddy for a girl named THeodroa. Does that work?
I’m really intrigued by [name]Willoughby[/name]. Not sold on [name]Wilkie[/name] but I’m gonna let it simmer for a while
For Girls
I’m digging the idea of [name]Freddie[/name] on a girl!gonna let that simmer too!I love the nn minnie and I’m gonna add wilhelmina to my list. Are there other names that could lead to this nn?
I love [name]Nia[/name] and [name]Evie[/name] too! but [name]Genevieve[/name] has never been a fav :frowning:
Good list though thanks!

Her name is pronounced Nee-ah, as though your drawing out the last three syllables of her name.
I love the nn [name]Frankie[/name] but I just can’t justify using [name]Frances[/name] because I love the nn.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Isadora[/name]. That was the first name I fell in love with when searching for [name]Virginia[/name]'s name. But I have a terrible ex sister in law named [name]Dora[/name]. :frowning:
[name]Penelope[/name] is on our list. DH was a classics major and loves Greek names. He’s also a duck hunter but I worry that it’s too trendy. Maybe this sounds crazy but I’d go for a popular name over a trendy name any day. I also love [name]Estelle[/name] and [name]Estella[/name] but I think that stella is way too trendy so i don’t think I can use it :frowning:
I’ve always loved the name [name]Simon[/name] but it seems to have a really different vibe than [name]Virginia[/name]. It doesn’t seem like a match made in heaven and I want my sib set to sound perfect.

So you say you’re intrigued by [name]WIlloughby[/name]? It was on our short list for boys names and i think it has incredible potential! If you’re not a fan of [name]Wilkie[/name], his nn could be chosen from [name]Will[/name], [name]Wills[/name], [name]Wylie[/name], [name]Bee[/name], Lo - i actually like [name]Wills[/name] the best. Simple, classic, princely, and [name]Nia[/name] 7 [name]Wills[/name] are striking!
As for [name]Everett[/name] with the nn [name]Ever[/name] - i think it could work. It does sound slightly feminine to me but i bet as soon as you see a rambunctious boy being called [name]Ever[/name] it would be totally masculine…plus im sure it would be shortened to Ev which is 100% masculine! And hey!..As a little baby he could even be [name]Evie[/name] (on. Eh-vee not the fem. Ee-vee) which would give you your [name]Nia[/name] & [name]Evie[/name]!
[name]Theodora[/name] works beautifully with Virgina! [name]Nia[/name] & [name]Teddy[/name] are adorable! Loves it!
To get to the nn [name]Freddie[/name] for a girl, these are the names that i could see working :
[name]Frederica[/name] - bet your hubby won’t like this if he doesn’t like [name]Frederick[/name] though!
[name]Alfreda[/name] - sounds too much like [name]Alfredo[/name] sauce!
[name]Freya[/name] - I really love this name! [name]Freddie[/name] wouldn’t be too far of a stretch - it’s just so much more feminine then alot of the other options which is a big plus! [name]Virginia[/name] and [name]Freya[/name] is beautiful!
To get the nickname [name]Minnie[/name], there are the names that i could see working:
[name]Tamsin[/name] - I could see this really working! [name]Virginia[/name] and [name]Tamsin[/name] is beautiful - [name]Tamsin[/name] nn [name]Minnie[/name] is ADORABLE
My faves out of that list would be the original [name]Wilhelmina[/name] and [name]Tamsin[/name]. Minuette is adorable, but i don’t know how well i see it working in adult years, plus it sounds sort of odd next to [name]Virginia[/name].
To get the nickname [name]Evie[/name], these are the names that i could se working:
[name]Evelyn[/name] - [name]Virginia[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name] are stunning!
[name]Evette[/name] - cute and unusual!

IF you like [name]Isadore[/name], but not the [name]Dora[/name] ending, do you like [name]Isolde[/name]? [name]Virginia[/name] and [name]Isolde[/name] is absolutely breathtaking!

I love masculine nn’s for long feminine formal names. I even thought of calling [name]Nia[/name] [name]Vinnie[/name] but no one would go for it. My question is that I see [name]Nia[/name] as being pretty feminine with just a touch of spunk. Is it weird to have one girl with a fem nn and another with a masc nn?
I forgot to mention that for boys we love the name [name]Wallace[/name] after [name]Wallace[/name] Stevens. Speaking of which, jacfitz, aren’t you looking for literary names? )
ANd what does everyone think of the nn hex for [name]Hector[/name]? too witchy?

You see i actually quite like having the more feminine [name]Nia[/name] with a more masculine [name]Freddie[/name]/[name]Teddy[/name] etc! You described [name]Nia[/name] as pretty feminine with a touch of spunk - where [name]Freddie[/name]/[name]Teddy[/name] would be completely spunky! So they share that cool factor between the two. Plus, i don’t find [name]Nia[/name] overtly feminine…so it’s not as if you would have a say…[name]Daisy[/name] and [name]Freddie[/name] which are on completely different spectrums!
As for boys, [name]Wallace[/name] is a great name! What would his nn be? [name]Wally[/name]? Cute! ANd yeah, we were looking for literary names - but we have chosen [name]Crewe[/name] [name]Lennox[/name] if it’s a boy! (After [name]Captain[/name] [name]Crewe[/name] in [name]Little[/name] [name]Princess[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] [name]Lennox[/name] from the [name]Secret[/name] Garden - i guess you could say i love [name]Frances[/name] [name]Hodgson[/name] [name]Burnett[/name]!). Hex does seem a littly odd, i guess witchy would be the right word, but then again im not a fan of [name]Hector[/name]. I could see Hex working though…i mean with the boys names [name]Ryker[/name], [name]Breaker[/name] etc Hex wouldn’t be too far off!
