[name_f]Morwenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Zamora[/name_f] are two of my favorite uncommon girls’ names. Living in Northern [name_u]California[/name_u], I’ve never met anyone with these names.
I first heard [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f] on the [name_m]Winston[/name_m] [name_m]Graham[/name_m] series, Poldark (rollicking good reads and an enjoyable TV series). At the time, I preferred the other names, which I still love ([name_f]Demelza[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f], and [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]) because the mor- beginning reminded me of mort- (death).
But now the softness of -wenna seems to ameliorate that sound and association for me.
I like Wenna, [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], and [name_f]Mora[/name_f] as nicknames which is what makes me think of [name_f]Zamora[/name_f] (as it shares the [name_f]Mora[/name_f] nickname).
I live an hour or so away from the fields of [name_f]Zamora[/name_f] which are shorn golden rolling expanses in the middle of nowhere that look like the Oregon Sand Dunes - gorgeous.
Any thoughts? I am past my child-naming years but I think they would make lovely cat names!
I really like [name_f]Zamora[/name_f]. The first I heard of it and thought it’d make a cool name was on sci-fi TV series ‘Lost Girl’, where Clan Zamora is one of the four noble families and Twig of [name_f]Zamora[/name_f] gave the person in its possession protection from any harm. It’s a great sounding name - different but not overly strange. It’s on my long list – a great little dear indeed.
[name_f]Morwenna[/name_f] I quite like too. It has a great whimsical vibe, but not in an airy way - more of a down-to-earth kind of way. It’s sweet, but also ages well.
