What about Nell/Nelly?

Thank you for your comments on [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f], potential names for [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u]'s baby sister (or brother, but that is a different story).

Not only are we unable to filter some of those but today we also began to wonder about [name_f]Nell[/name_f] - [name_u]Nelly[/name_u] - [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. What are your thoughts?

I think it’s a cute name. I met a [name_f]Nell[/name_f] that worked with my mom once. I think [name_f]Nell[/name_f] works well on an adult and [name_u]Nelly[/name_u] on a child.

[name_f]Nell[/name_f] used to be one of my favourites  I still like it but I think I prefer it as a nickname for something longer now, like [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f].

I think it’s adorable, though personally I prefer it as a nickname

I prefer [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_u]Nelly[/name_u] as nicknames for something longer, like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] is better if you’re going to use it as a full name, and there’s the [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] connection. (I actually have a typewriter named [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] after her.)

I love [name_f]Nell[/name_f] as a nickname. I have it listed as a nickname for [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], [name_f]Elvina[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f].

[name_f]Nell[/name_f] just seems so… boring. [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] reminds me of a horse, and [name_u]Nelly[/name_u] of the rapper. I am not a fan. If you were to use it, definitely as a nickname for something.

Edited for privacy.

Associations I make are the rapper, the brat from “[name_m]Little[/name_m] House on the [name_u]Prairie[/name_u]” and the movie [name_f]Nell[/name_f] (about a character who doesn’t speak)

Since I’ve had [name_u]Nelly[/name_u]'s hey [name_f]Porsche[/name_f] stuck in my head for a year (It was a top 5 song in Australia) the rapper is my first association and I think Hot in Herre spent seven weeks at number one and was covered on Glee so most people do know it I was three when it was released and I can sing the chorus.

I do know a teenaged just [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and I like it

I adore [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], it is such a sweet, lovely name. I really like it as a standalone choice, but it’s also nice as a nn for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I think the [name_u]Nelly[/name_u] spelling is too tied to the rapper though.

Absolutely love it, but prefer it as a nickname.

I really like [name_f]Nell[/name_f]/[name_u]Nelly[/name_u]. I think it’s adorable.

I love [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] as a spelling alternative. [name_f]My[/name_f] middle name is [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], I got it from my great grandmother and I’ve always liked it. However, we try to stick with short names because our surname is quite long and a bit hard to pronounce.

I understand the nickname-y aspect of the name, but we got over that with [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. I could see ourselves embracing [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] too. So far, I would say we are still quite stuck with our girl name ideas
