What animal names are actually awesome and acceptable??

@brittanyanitarose
[name_f]Fawn[/name_f] is precious! I agree on [name_m]Colt[/name_m] and [name_m]Newt[/name_m]… can’t do it!

I prefer most animal names in the middle on boys. Our son’s middle name is [name_m]Fox[/name_m] and yes, we do buy him fox themed stuff all the time. He is way more bear-like than fox-like though, so we also get him lots of bear stuff too, so it’s not like if you give your child an animal name it ends up taking over their personality or anything. And really it’s no different than when we buy our daughter ladybug themed stuff (which we’ve done since she was little, because that’s what her first Halloween costume was and it just kind of became a thing).

Besides [name_m]Fox[/name_m], I also like [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] and [name_m]Bruin[/name_m] in the middle. Up front, I think [name_u]Jay[/name_u], [name_m]Drake[/name_m], [name_m]Griffon[/name_m] and [name_u]Falcon[/name_u] are nice, as well as [name_m]Colt[/name_m] ([name_m]Colton[/name_m]), [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] ([name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m]) and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] ([name_m]Christopher[/name_m]/[name_m]Christian[/name_m]/[name_m]Kristoff[/name_m]) as nicknames.

@mummacat I do not know how to insert a picture but a sable is this adorable critter!

My first sons middle name is [name_m]Bear[/name_m]! We love it, sometimes we call him little bear but its not that big of a deal either  I love fox for a middle!

Oh what a precious little floof! [name_m]How[/name_m] Cute!!

@mummacat92, I didn’t really like it until I started watching his channel. it feels like [name_u]Dakota[/name_u] to me, and I agree a bit clunky. I don’t really like animal names and I would never use it myself, or [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] (no matter how cool I think it is). it’s just to out there for it to be anything but a GP name.

I love animal names - and word names in general - a lot. I’d say my favourite would be [name_u]Kit[/name_u] (b), which is on my shortlist (either on its own or as a nickname for [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]). However, generally, I prefer to use animal names as nicknames or middles.

Some I like (with the sex - boy [b], girl [g], unisex [u] - and placing I prefer it for):

  • [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [b] (nn for [name_m]Frederic[/name_m])
  • [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] [b] (nn for [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m])
  • [name_m]Bear[/name_m] [b] (nn for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m])
  • Dragon [b] (nn for [name_m]Draco[/name_m])
  • [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [g] (nn for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f])
  • Otter [g] (nn for [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f])
  • Roo [b] (nn for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m])
  • [name_f]Tabby[/name_f] [g] (nn for [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f])
  • [name_m]Newt[/name_m] [b] (nn for [name_m]Newton[/name_m])
  • Cub [u] (nn for animal name)
  • Panther [u] (middle)
  • [name_f]Puma[/name_f] [u] (middle)
