I’m looking for good boys’ names with a relationship to both Islam and Christianity.
But take into account this: The names must be acceptable and popular in the United States. The names must not sound too much Islamic and Arabic, otherwise they might scare some islamophobic Americans.
Go to baby name wizard and they have I believe a free search engine that you can add those specifics into and they’ll give you a little but of a place to start. But I would imagine anything Old Testament is quite safe. [name_m]Abram[/name_m] perhaps ?
My initial thought was [name_m]David[/name_m], which is a lovely name which is important in all three Abrahamaic religions, and quite common in the US. (Daveed is also lovely but a lot less mainstream.) Another good choice in that vein would be [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]. [name_u]Elias[/name_u] is less common, and I don’t know about its roots in Islam but my second cousin’s father is an Algerian Muslim and his name is [name_u]Elias[/name_u]. It’s also a nice name.
Many of the prophets in the Quran also appear in the Bible. I think these would translate the best across cultures:
Adam
Elisha
Job
David
Aaron
Abraham
Elijah/Elias
Isaac
Idris (not in the Bible but familiar to Christians because of Idris Elba)
Moses
Noah
Solomon
John
Jacob
Joseph
Jonah
Zachariah
Gabriel
Michael
Besides Old Testament names, there’s Basil. Probably not popular, but it’s a name that works in English and Arabic. Some Googling tells me that it’s a saint and bishop name (Greek), and it’s a separate Arabic boys’ name that means “brave.” And this also isn’t popular, but there’s also Isa (Jesus).
I have the same struggle. My husband is from [name_u]Egypt[/name_u] and I am American. Any old testament name has similar versions in English and Arabic.
