Elegant is a subjective word - but I am curious of what is the general consensus of the Berries for “elegant names”. Elegant is a very broad word since it can go from the simple classic and timeless elegance of [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]Black[/name_m] Dress names to the somehow more eccentric and showing elegance of the operatic names of the 19th century. What does “elegant” mean for you in girl names?
fun idea!
for me, there are the more classic + elegant names:
- [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
- [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
- [name_u]Camille[/name_u]
- [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
& the ones leaning on the more contemporary/eccentric side
- [name_f]Audra[/name_f]
- [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
- [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
- [name_f]Solange[/name_f]
Names that are well-established and classic:

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] / [name_f]Claire[/name_f] / [name_u]Clare[/name_u]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] / [name_f]Ellinor[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]

Names that are long (weirdly)

[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - my favourite!
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Antonina[/name_f] / [name_f]Antonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] / [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f]
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]
Here are some names I find elegant:
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Marielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Adrienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and Hathway (through association with Hepburn and [name_u]Anne[/name_u] Hathaway)
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] (overlapping with ‘grand’)
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Antoinette[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f]
[name_f]Anaïs[/name_f]
[name_f]Marais[/name_f]
[name_u]French[/name_u] endings such as -ienne, -ielle & [name_u]French[/name_u] names in general seem to form part of what I find elegant.
Elegant to me tends to have something both ultra feminine, and tailored and clipped or even a little unsettling about it, like:
[name_u]Celeste[/name_u]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_u]Marion[/name_u]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucette[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Anaïs[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_u]Camille[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Constance[/name_f]
There are other names that I see as high glam and luxurious, like [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] and [name_f]Estella[/name_f], but for some reason I equate “elegant” as also having something restrained in there.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
Usually longer names with a [name_u]French[/name_u] or foreign flair like
[name_f]Suzette[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Georgianna[/name_f], [name_f]Georgette[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Nanette[/name_f], [name_f]Jordana[/name_f], [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f], [name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
my favorite elegant names!
→ amelie
→ cecily / charlotte / clara
→ eliana
→ felicity
→ hannah
→ josephine / juliet / juliette
→ lillian / lucille
→ may
→ seraphine
[name_f]Katharine[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Barbara[/name_f], [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Sigrid[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Graziella[/name_f], [name_u]Julian[/name_u], [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f], [name_u]Alba[/name_u]
Elegant to me usually means slightly longer names with 19th century, literary vibes but I can also find some more ‘classic’ names elegant too?

[name_u]Florence[/name_u]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Leocadia[/name_f]
