And why wouldn’t you use them? Popularity? Because they’re a bit too odd?
Mine are:
[name]Salem[/name] (for a boy) - It would always be associated with the Witch Trials
[name]Noah[name] (for a boy) - Too popular
[name]Sophia[/name] - Once again, too popular
Well, I have a few:
[name]Nikki[/name]-I think its a great name, but everyone else I ask about it thinks it’s a hideous name.
Vikkie-I like how it sounds but every spelling looks weird.
[name]Lola[/name]-I love it so much, but it sounds more nick-namey.
[name]Miley[/name]-I know what you’re thinking, don’t even say it because that’s why
[name]Emily[/name]-It just gets so boring that every time you turn you see an [name]Emily[/name].
[name]Brittany[/name]-I hate a lot of Brittanys I meet. Well, so far they’ve all been rotten but oh well that might change.
[name]Violet[/name] - Pronounciation issues. Sometimes I hate that I don’t live in an English speaking country!!
[name]Alice[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it, but eveytime my mom hears that name, she starts singing a really annoying song, so it’s out.
[name]Imogen[/name] - Again pronounciation issues.
[name]Maisie[/name] - too nicknamy
[name]Beatrix[/name] - Like it, but it’s our queen’s name, so for me it’ll always be associated with her…
[name]Iris[/name] - I grew up with 4 friends named [name]Iris[/name] (they are all in their early 20’s now). Waaay too popular here.
[name]Evangeline[/name] - Would probably be prounced the French way, and I really don’t like that pronounciation.
[name]Aurora[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name] - Can’t even pronounce it properly myself. But it’s such a pretty name!
[name]Veronica[/name] - Name of a Dutch tv station.
[name]Adelaide[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it, but can’t get people to pronounce it right, and I strongly dislike the Dutch version [name]Adelheid[/name].
[name]Anatole[/name] - He would probably get teased with the [name]Ana[/name] part of his name
[name]Theodore[/name] - I know a lot of 50something year old [name]Theo[/name]'s, so that one’s out.
[name]Christiaan[/name]/[name]Christopher[/name] - [name]Love[/name] these names, but I strongly dislike the nn [name]Chris[/name].
[name]Matthew[/name] - Pronounciation issues.
Btw, I love the name [name]Salem[/name]! Maybe you could use it as a middle name?
These are names that I love. I may use them one day but as of now, they’re out of the question.
[name]Kendall[/name] - My mother hates it and it’s kinda a trendy name.
[name]Kelsey[/name] - Same reason as [name]Kendall[/name].
[name]Ayanna[/name] - I love this name and it has a beautiful meaning however, my mother hates it and I think it may be a little too abnormal for me.
[name]Claire[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it, but a girl in my class at school who is super annoying has this name.
[name]Caroline[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name to pieces but several of my extended family members have this name as well as a close friend of mine.
I love these names but I don’t know if I can bring myself to use them!
[name]Rufus[/name]- I love this name! It’s so spunky and has a great vibe to it, but growing up my mom had a dog named [name]Rufus[/name] the Doofus. Now everyone in my family automatically associates [name]Rufus[/name] with doofus.
[name]Henry[/name]- I love the name because of its strength and history. However, this is the name of my sister’s cat.
[name]Ethel[/name]- I think this name is so sweet, but everyone has condemned [name]Ethel[/name] to the nursing home and I don’t see that changing any time soon.
[name]Ramsey[/name]/[name]Ramsay[/name]- Another spunky name with a great vibe. Unfortunately in my town, the [name]Ramsay[/name] family owns the local funeral home, so my family and friends immediately associate [name]Ramsey[/name]/[name]Ramsay[/name] with death and funerals. So that’s out.
[name]Meredith[/name]- I would love to use [name]Meredith[/name] as a middle name for a son. However, every [name]Meredith[/name] I’ve ever met was very unpleasant, to put it nicely. I don’t think I’d ever be able to get past those associations. There’s also that teeny tiny problem with [name]Meredith[/name] being so popular for girls.
[name]Miles[/name]- My Cousin Is Using It For Her [name]Baby[/name]
[name]Ainsley[/name]-My Other Cousin Has A Daughter Named This
[name]Christopher[/name]- I Know [name]Way[/name] Too Many [name]Chris[/name]'s and [name]Christopher[/name]'s
[name]Kingsley[/name]- Hubby doesn’t like it
[name]Rylan[/name]-Too Close To [name]Rylee[/name]
[name]Raleigh[/name]-Same [name]Reason[/name] As [name]Rylan[/name]
[name]Bailey[/name]- Hubby Doesn’t Like It
[name]Madeline[/name]- Hubby Doesn’t Like Names That Sound Like “[name]Madison[/name]”
[name]Addison[/name]- same reason as [name]Madeline[/name]
[name]Katelyn[/name]- [name]Way[/name] Too Popular, I know of at least 4 little girls named this right off the top of my head
[name]Skyler[/name]- Cousin Has A Daughter Named This, Spelled [name]Skylar[/name] (even though i would still consider it as a middle name for a boy)
[name]Talan[/name]- [name]Skylar[/name]'s [name]Little[/name] Brother
[name]Tyler[/name]- [name]Ainsley[/name] [name]Little[/name] Brother
These 3 have a personal meaning to me, last year i found out i was pregnant well a little over a month later i found that i had lost the baby. we never found out the sex of the baby but if it was a girl, i wanted to call her [name]Kayli[/name]-[name]Wyatt[/name] [name]Mckinley[/name]. Yeah, I know it’s out there and weird but for some reason i fell head over heels for it. I don’t feel right using it for another child because I feel that it belongs to the baby we lost…
[name]Annalee[/name]- [name]Love[/name] it, but now every time I hear it I think ‘Anally’
[name]Ayla[/name]- [name]Love[/name] the meaning and the sound, but a bit too trendy stylewise
[name]Eilidh[/name]- too many pronunciation issues…
[name]Faline[/name]- too associated with disney
[name]Mercedes[/name]- too tied to the car
[name]October[/name]- a friend just named her baby this
[name]Sahara[/name]- too close to [name]Zahara[/name] & Brangelina
[name]Autumn[/name]- too popular right now
[name]Valentine[/name]- she would always be tied to the holiday
[name]Holiday[/name]- so sweet, but maybe too trendy
[name]Walter[/name]- still too old man but I love the nn [name]Walt[/name]
[name]Shepherd[/name]- no good nn for it
[name]Sebastian[/name]- I think of the crab from little mermaid
[name]Rudolph[/name]- the red nosed reindeer…
[name]Ace[/name]/[name]Lucky[/name]- too nicknamey
[name]Knight[/name]- a little too pretentious sounding to me
[name]Judah[/name]- bad experiences
[name]Ewan[/name]- reminds me of a sheep
[name]Basil[/name]- too feminine sounding for me
[name]Auden[/name]- reminds me either of Odd or Odor, just can’t seem to say it right
[name]Bailey[/name] for a boy. It makes me feel oooollllllddddd to realize I remember when this was a fresh, exciting choice – and then realize how long ago that was!
I want to move to [name]Bay[/name] – but one syllable isn’t enough and I can’t figure out a good way to extend it. Might use it in the middle.
[name]Isabelle[/name]/[name]Isabella[/name]. [name]Truly[/name] lovely. Classic. Complex. Too bad millions agree. I guess it’s more like billions. Sigh.
[name]Autry[/name]. I’m a nn person, and there isn’t anywhere good to go with this name. Odd? Nah. Not going there. [name]Even[/name] Aut equals nothing. Tree is pretty fashionalbe with the green name revival, but I don’t think I’m the type…
[name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] (Too popular, in fact I like a lot of old fashioned names, but that seems to be the “in thing” now)
[name]Donovan[/name] (My daughter’s name already starts with D, and I refuse to have them start with the same letter)
[name]Reed[/name] & [name]Miles[/name] (Twins from my daughter’s preschool, very cute, but not my style)
[name]Jackson[/name] nn [name]Jax[/name] ([name]Way[/name] too popular, decided to name our dog [name]Jax[/name] instead)
[name]Aidan[/name] (Again, too popular, but it’s a name I’ve loved for a long time)
[name]Milo[/name]…I love it, but my husband was quick to say, “[name]Milo[/name] the silo” or “[name]Milo[/name] and [name]Otis[/name].”
[name]Parker[/name]…My DHs grandfather’s surname, but too trendy for me.
[name]Hugh[/name]…Sounds like “you” whenever I say it aloud.
[name]Desmond[/name]…Too many family members have said they hate it and will refer to him as “Tutu.”
[name]Declan[/name]…Would love this if we had an Irish surname.
[name]Hugo[/name]…DH can’t not associate it with [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Reyes[/name] from “Lost.”
[name]Raymond[/name]…My grandfather, but also our next door neighbor.
[name]Alistair[/name]…Too British for me on this side of the pond.
[name]Daphne[/name]…DH can’t get past the Scooby Doo character
[name]Evangeline[/name]…Too long for our surname.
[name]Dagny[/name]…[name]Love[/name] it, love the meaning, I’m part Scandinavian, but everyone seems to hate it.
[name]Eloise[/name]…DH does not like. He doesn’t know why. He just can’t give in to this one.
[name]Elodie[/name]…Too many people think it’s just [name]Melody[/name] with the missing ‘m.’ [name]Love[/name] it though.
[name]Maisie[/name]…[name]Love[/name], but a bit nicknamey for my family.
[name]Daisy[/name]…Again, it’s not a nickname, but a little too cutesy.
[name]Jane[/name]…I just may someday, but I have to get past all the “plain [name]Jane[/name]” remarks.
[name]Eulalie[/name] - gorgeous, but too uncommon and out there…would most likely get confused with [name]Eudora[/name]. Maybe as a mn.
[name]Azalea[/name] - beautiful, but too unheard of
[name]Violet[/name] - my cousin’s name
[name]Xaviera[/name] - name of some famous mistress
[name]Sephora[/name] - it’s really a Hebrew name, but it would get confused the makeup store too often
[name]Keturah[/name] - too unheard of, probably hard to pronounce in English
[name]Celeste[/name] - hard to pronounce, I’m not fond of any of its nicknames either
Xylia - cute, but sounds like something from the future, or [name]Mars[/name]…
[name]Aurora[/name] - hard to say, too princess-y
[name]Esther[/name] - no nickname!, reminds me of the Biblical figure to much
[name]Abigail[/name] - too common
Hadarah - too uncommon
[name]Frances[/name] - I HATE the nickname [name]Franny[/name]!!
[name]Eden[/name] - too common
[name]Zephyr[/name] - used for boys as well, too hippie
[name]Tatum[/name] - would be associated with [name]Tatum[/name] O’[name]Neal[/name] too much
[name]Jillian[/name] - this girl who I grew up with who was very mean to me had this name But I still love it!

Milania - I’m not Italian, and it has no nice nicknames
[name]Dorothy[/name] - I love this name, but unfortunately my family had money stolen from someone with this name.
[name]Mary[/name] - I’m Jewish This is too [name]Christian[/name] for me.
[name]Oceana[/name] - too out there
[name]Japheth[/name] - sounds like so many other “J” names
[name]Abraham[/name] - many in my family would object…
[name]Zev[/name] - many people in the U.S. would raise an eyebrow
[name]Asher[/name] - too common now!
[name]Axel[/name] - that link to rock music…
[name]Landon[/name] - too common now! Maybe as mn.
[name]Lennox[/name] - someone in my family is named [name]Leonard[/name]
[name]Ethan[/name] - my brother’s name!
[name]Dallas[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] this name! But it has a little bit of a trashy feel in my opinion.
[name]Daniel[/name] - too common
[name]Dashiell[/name] - too common now…maybe as mn.
[name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgianna[/name] - sounds terrible with our surname
[name]Beatrice[/name] - DH said that it sounds like the name of a witch
[name]Olivia[/name] - too popular
[name]Margaux[/name] - love that spelling, but it wouldn’t look right with our surname
[name]Daniel[/name] - not sure I’d want to use it, it’s my dad’s name.
[name]Gareth[/name] - too British for us.
[name]Wesley[/name] - i like it, but DH doesn’t.
[name]Aisling[/name] : I traveled in [name]Ireland[/name] while pregnant with my first daughter, and fell in love with this name. While I was there, a horrible plane crash occurred in S. [name]America[/name] and a young Irish woman named [name]Aisling[/name] was killed. [name]Ireland[/name]'s a small country so it was all over the news everyday while I was there. Also, we’re not Irish so I’d feel like a poser a little.
[name]Aurora[/name]: Beautiful name, beautiful meaning. Unfortunately, one of the scummiest, ugliest places in the [name]Denver[/name] area is a suburb called [name]Aurora[/name].
[name]Bluebell[/name]: It’s just too over-the-top.
[name]Tara[/name]: I would [name]LOVE[/name] to use this simple, gorgeous name, but a [name]Tara[/name] I used to know wrecked it for me.
[name]Thomas[/name] - [name]Adore[/name] this name, but hate the nn [name]Tom[/name]! It’s as boring as [name]Ann[/name] and [name]Jane[/name], urgh!
[name]Grace[/name] - Beautiful name, but half my church seems to be called this, one of which is my OH’s sister
[name]Aoife[/name] - I think this is so pretty but living in [name]England[/name] I think people will have a really pronunciation problem with it and I know what it’s like to have a strangely spelled name. But I hate changing traditional spellings and Eefa just looks silly even if it is easy to read
[name]Lux[/name] - It’s just so short and a lot of people think it sounds a bit pole dancery
[name]Alfie[/name] and [name]Emma[/name] - Great names but I have cousins with these names
[name]Charlotte[/name] - Such a femine, regal name, but it sounds too similar to mine, I wish I was called this instead of my strange, unpronouncable, unlegible name
[name]Amelie[/name] - I like this when pronounced [name]Ah[/name]-mil-ee but not when pronounced [name]Ah[/name]-[name]May[/name]-[name]Lee[/name] and since the latter is the correct way then I won’t use it
