I’m sure a thread like this has been posted before, but I can’t seem to find it, so I went ahead and made a new one. After doing some major list work earlier today, it got me curious as to which are the newest additions on your list(s)? Whether it be added to your master list/long list/top 10, you can share them all here.
Today I added the following names (quite a lot!!!) to my “maybe babies” list. [name_f]My[/name_f] “maybe babies” list is a list of combinations I’ve made, loved, but ones that don’t quite make it in my top 10. I’ll only share the first names here, but if you’re interested in the combinations, you can click on the “ladies” link in my signature.
Recently I have fell in love with [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] & [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] for girls. I’ve began to notice I like over the top, sophisticated girl names. There are a few girl names that I like that aren’t as over the top but I definitely seem to have a pattern.
For boys, [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Duncan[/name_m] & [name_u]Tate[/name_u].
[name_m]Duncan[/name_m] is a family name but I never considered it before, until recently. I just like everything about it - my heritage (Scottish), my family, the sound & meaning.
[name_u]Tate[/name_u] was add because I really like the name [name_u]Tatum[/name_u] for a girl, but I know the connection to [name_u]Channing[/name_u] [name_u]Tatum[/name_u] is a given, then [name_u]Tate[/name_u] for a boy kind of popped up.
I was never big on [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] because it reminded me of [name_m]Casper[/name_m] (the ghost) & Twilight - but I don’t really make those connections anymore and suddenly like it.
I’ve recently added:
For girls-
Merewen
Talaria
[name_f]Bohemia[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]-[name_f]Fae[/name_f]
[name_f]Lunette[/name_f]
(All the above I added to my top names, I’ve got 43 now!)
Eularia
[name_f]Deirdre[/name_f]
[name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] (as a GP)
As for my boys list, it’s completely ground to a halt. The last two names I added a few weeks ago were [name_m]Archie[/name_m] (which I’ve loved for ages anyway), and [name_f]Rhonwyn[/name_f].
I have a very solid, lengthy list of boy names that I have liked for a long time, and fallen in love with over and over again. I have yet to remove one, and it’s been an incredibly long time since I’ve added any. I know exactly what I want and what I like and don’t like when it comes to boy names.
Girls names, however, I find extremely difficult. I tend to pick long, feminine, vintage names that seem a bit ‘unwearable’ and ‘out there’, but I like them for a reason, so I keep them on my list. I add, switch, and remove from my girls list constantly. As much as I love names like [name_f]Antonetta[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], they just seem a bit odd to picture on a little girl. But I think it’s just me. I need to realize that if I love a name, it shouldn’t matter what others think, I should go with it because it makes me smile. And besides, nicknames always make any name wearable on a child. [name_f]Antonetta[/name_f]/[name_f]Antonia[/name_f] could be [name_f]Toni[/name_f] as a child.
[name_f]Nuria[/name_f] and [name_f]Nydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Viviette[/name_f] and [name_f]Fleurette[/name_f]
[name_f]Tesla[/name_f] (Its been on my radar but I am feeling less concerned about the car and rock band connections these days)
[name_f]Azure[/name_f]
[name_f]Midori[/name_f]
[name_f]Arcadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aviva[/name_f]
[name_f]Anjali[/name_f]
For some reason, today [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] has been in my head. I also recently decided [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] was usable, and [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Also, I suddenly like [name_m]Fox[/name_m], though would never use it as an actual name.
surprisingly tame for me names, like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] have recently joined my list. Actually I just did a total 180 in my name style. up until recently, my favorite names were Illyria and [name_f]Elysia[/name_f], which I still love but would never use.
Since joining Nameberry, I’ve added [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] to my list.
Great topic! Part of NB’s appeal is the exposure to names we’ve forgotten, disregarded, or just never would have known about.
[name_u]Sorrel[/name_u]: Recently on Nameberry’s home page. I already had [name_m]Soren[/name_m] on my list, and this is similar but softer and a nature name. I was an equestrian in my childhood and used to work with horses, so [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u] has a nostalgic quality for me.
[name_m]Virgil[/name_m]: A forum topic got me thinking about [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], which I like but I can’t get past the components. Then I thought [name_m]Virgil[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom had a beloved cat by this name. I’ve only met one [name_m]Virgil[/name_m], and he wore the name well. Not sure about the poetic connection though, as I’m not really into classics.
Reconsidering: [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] and [name_m]Roland[/name_m]. Names I had had on my list but had scratched. A thread on [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] reminded me just how much I love the melody of this name. As for [name_m]Roland[/name_m], this was a top contender while I was with my now ex-fiancé. It’s his middle name, after his morfar (grandfather). I still have a painful love of the name and the two men it reminds me of, but I don’t think I could actually use it. But I will let it sit on my list as I have such a strong emotional tie to it and nooshi mentions it all the time so there’s no ignoring it!
On the girls list, the most recent additions would have to be:
Vieno - Finnish unisex name, means ‘gentle’ which I love ^^
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f] - Used to have [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] on the list, but [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] feels more independent, calm and mysterious.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - Rediscovered this two weeks ago, I love how subtly romantic it is.
[name_f]Eluned[/name_f] - I’ve been struggling to decide between [name_f]Eluned[/name_f], [name_f]Eimear[/name_f] and Ealisaid, so far I’ve landed on [name_f]Eluned[/name_f], but it might change!
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] - I loved [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] for a long time, but she suddenly felt too heavy. [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] is lighter and still the right amount of serious.
For boys I’ve managed to narrow it down more, but these are the newest additions:
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] - Still not entirely sure he’s a keeper, but I adore the idea of [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] on a sensitive guy. So handsome!
[name_u]Constantine[/name_u] - Much the same as [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], more confident about this one though ^^
[name_u]Jory[/name_u] - I’ve been debating [name_u]Jory[/name_u]/[name_m]Jorah[/name_m]/[name_m]Judah[/name_m]/[name_u]Jules[/name_u]/[name_u]Joss[/name_u]/[name_m]Jago[/name_m] for a while. I think I’ve landed on [name_u]Jory[/name_u].
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m] - I love [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] for the same reasons I love [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]. Independent, mysterious, calm. I also love the very European vibe of both names.
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], and [name_m]Osric[/name_m]. I’m not 100% sure of any of them at this point though. I am also kind of smitten with [name_f]Athena[/name_f].
GIRLS
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u] (dropped it a few months ago but it’s back)
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] (same as [name_u]Sloane[/name_u])
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
BOYS
[name_m]Dimitri[/name_m] (liked it for a while but never considered using it until a few days ago when it slipped into a combo unnoticed :P)
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] (ever since I’ve thought of the nickname [name_m]Zach[/name_m] I’ve loved it)
