I thought this would be an interesting topic to start. We’re all constantly looking for the perfect name for our child or future children. But what are your 10 favourite girls names when no other criteria is considered other than the names that make you feel warmest when you hear them, the ones you really love?!
[name]Don[/name]'t exclude a name because your partner or family doesn’t like it, because you’re not brave enough to really use it, because it has become or is becoming too popular, because it doesn’t fit with your surname or other childrens names, because you know one or someone you know used it on their baby first etc.
Ignore the usual criteria we all use and just list your 10 favourites
Mine, in no particular order are (with reasons why they’re not on my “real” list):
[name]Claudie[/name] (too nicknamey and matchy with [name]Ivy[/name], so we’ve gone for [name]Claudia[/name] instead) [name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Pen[/name]”lope
[name]Mirabel[/name] [name]Phoebe[/name] (too popular in the UK and matchy with [name]Penelope[/name]) [name]Margo[/name] (partner hates and sounds terrible with our surname) [name]Catalina[/name] (partner doesn’t like, and matchy with [name]Claudia[/name]) [name]Daisy[/name] (too popular, and cutesy with [name]Ivy[/name]) [name]Sophia[/name] (too popular) [name]May[/name] (step-sister is using [name]Mae[/name] in her daughter’s first name (a hyphenated name))
[name]EDIT[/name] (since everyone else is cheating I am too! hehe)
Honourable mention to; [name]Alice[/name] (too popular), [name]Nina[/name] (name of my partners ex!), [name]Allegra[/name] (partner hates and name of an allergy medicine apparently), [name]Rosaline[/name], [name]Harriet[/name] (too popular), [name]Jane[/name] (perhaps too plain and unfrilly with my other favourites), [name]Matilda[/name] (too popular) and [name]Tabitha[/name] (partner hates, reminds people of cats lol)
Can’t wait to hear all of yours, and maybe the reason you won’t actually use some of them?
Only ten names? What are you trying to do, [name]Laura[/name], kill us? Ok, I’ll have to choose the ten that pop into my head!
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]
[name]Theodora[/name]
Gosh, I just noticed I may be on a vintage name trip!
I’m going to do combo’s because that’s how I keep them on my list! Okay I’ll TRY to narrow it down to ten!
[name]Mirabelle[/name] [name]Iris[/name]
[name]Petra[/name] [name]Lavender[/name]
[name]Belle[/name] [name]Ariadne[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Carys[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name] Esm”e
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Amabel[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Leona[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Mireille[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name] [name]Gisele[/name]
I love [name]Mirabel[/name] {been considering changing [name]Mirabelle[/name] to [name]Mirabel[/name] lately}, [name]Pen[/name]”lope, [name]Ivy[/name], & [name]May[/name] off your list!
[name]August[/name] - SO “maybe’d” it
[name]Charlotte[/name] - Probably too popular, but we both love nn [name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] - meaningful to both of us so definite possibility
[name]Gretchen[/name] - my favorite name, but SO isn’t sold yet
[name]Elliot[/name] - we both love the full name, but not nn [name]Ellie[/name]
[name]Moira[/name] - we both love it
[name]Morgan[/name] - I might like it better on a boy
[name]Matilda[/name] - we both love it
[name]Ellery[/name] - I might like it better on a boy, meaningful for me
[name]Harriet[/name] - SO doesn’t like it, so it’s probably out
([name]August[/name], [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Morgan[/name], and [name]Ellery[/name] are also on our boys list)
I think the ones we might actually use are [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Gretchen[/name] (if I get my way), [name]Moira[/name], or [name]Matilda[/name].
Thanks for posting this! My 10 favorites, not in any order, are (probably):
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Liliana[/name]
[name]Annika[/name]
[name]Myra[/name]
[name]Danielle[/name]
[name]Maura[/name]
[name]Oliana[/name] (I saw this once on a list and thought it was so pretty, yet not my usual style!)
[name]Autumn[/name]
[name]Nina[/name]
[name]Abilene[/name] (a bit clunky and don’t love nn [name]Abby[/name])
[name]Ada[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] (DH doesn’t like it, “too pretentious”)
Aven (can’t use, know someone with name)
[name]Bronwen[/name] (DH doesn’t like the sound of it)
[name]Hadley[/name] (too trendy and echoes son’s name)
[name]Leota[/name] (my grandma’s middle name)
[name]Livia[/name] (too close to over-popular [name]Olivia[/name] for me)
[name]Myra[/name]
[name]Willa[/name] (too trendy perhaps)
[name]Daphne[/name] - will probably use this for DD on the way [name]Lucy[/name] - gave this name to our cat but I wish I’d saved it for a daughter [name]Geneva[/name] - love the nn [name]Evie[/name] [name]Delilah[/name] - love this but the biblical story would prevent me from using it [name]Penelope[/name] - but only if the nn is [name]Pippa[/name] [name]Adeline[/name] - really like this but I worry she’d be lost in a sea of "[name]Addie[/name]"s [name]Libby[/name] - love it all on its own [name]Lola[/name] - DH won’t let me use this because of the song [name]Audrey[/name] - makes me think of [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn but probably too popular to use [name]Isla[/name] - could see using this for a 2nd DD if we have one
[name]Fiona[/name] ~ dd <3
Stella ~ popularity may or may not prevent me from using
Eulalie ~ absolutely in love with the you-LAY-lee pronunciation
Odessa ~ replaced both Ophelia and Vanessa in one fell swoop
Ava ~ won’t use because of the popularity
Karis ~ niece’s name, had only heard it irl once before and once since (though the latter is spelled Karris)
Ariel ~ couldn’t imagine having two girls with the same names as cartoon princesses
Gloria ~ so beautiful!
Selena ~ a happy-sounding name that makes me think of the moon
Rayna ~ too matchy with dd’s full name
Girls names are always so much fun! So many good ones to choose from
[name]Axelle[/name] - #1 name crush right now. [name]Axel[/name] means “father of peace”.
[name]Celena[/name] - I prefer the C spelling; love the meaning “moon goddess”
[name]Lavender[/name] (Lav, Livi) - my favorite “purple” name
[name]Edith[/name] ([name]Edie[/name]) - my mom had an angel baby named [name]Edith[/name] right before she conceived me so it has special meaning to my sister and I now that my mother has passed.
[name]Briar[/name] - favorite “princess” name; I’m a Sleeping Beauty fan ([name]Aurora[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name] is SO close)
Loelia (Loey) - saw this on the nameberry massage boards and got to crushin’. It means “night” as a variation of the Arabic ‘[name]Leila[/name]’ and can also be a nature name as there is a moth with Loelia in it’s scientific name.
Marix - a personal variation of [name]Maris[/name], a close childhood friend of mine. [name]Maris[/name] means “of the sea”
[name]Zephyr[/name] (Zeffie, [name]Effie[/name]) I love the meaning and the gender ambiguity. I think it’d be SO cute on a little girl, esp with a girly middle name like [name]Amabel[/name] or [name]Colette[/name]
[name]Twyla[/name]/[name]Twila[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] this name but I feel it’s too close to that whole “Twilight” craze to be usable for me.
[name]Bluebell[/name] ([name]Bebe[/name]) - I think people (my family) would have trouble taking this seriously as a first name but I love everything about it!
Honorable mention: [name]Penelope[/name] - This was the #1 contender for a girl for us… until we looked it up and she was at #200 Great minds think alike: It’s such a GREAT name!
