I have 4 boys with [name_m]New[/name_m] Testament names - [name_m]Paul[/name_m], [name_m]Mark[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. If we were to someday have a 5th boy, I’d love to use another [name_m]New[/name_m] Testament name. I’m open to Old Testament names but not nearly as enthusiastic about them. Our last name is Tys0n which is why we haven’t used [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] even though we both love it.
[name_m]Stephen[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], and [name_m]Philip[/name_m] are all out as we’ve used them as middle names. [name_m]Luke[/name_m] would be my clear favorite but it’s dh’s brother’s name. [name_m]Peter[/name_m] goes on and off my list but I’m not sure I love it with our last name - something about the “t” in [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and the “T” at the start of Tys0n.
Currently [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] are the only names on our list. I’d love some suggestions…
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_m]Simon[/name_m], but he definitely doesn’t work with the last name, and the ending of [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] is a little too close to [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]… [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] (might have the same problem as [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], though), or [name_m]John[/name_m]? There’s also [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m], which I love, but doesn’t really go with the rest of the sibset.
I do love [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], though, and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] would make an awesome combo!
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] is my fave I think [name_m]Peter[/name_m] Tys0n is fine but the MN probably shouldn’t be another 2-syllable, T-heavy name. I also think [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Mark[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m] and [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] are lovely and would work with your children’s names and surname. [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_m]Jason[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m], [name_m]Titus[/name_m] and [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] also make appearances (according to BtN), though they may not be what you’re looking for.
ETA: Oops, mega_muffin suggested half of them already. That’ll teach me not to watch the telly whilst typing replies
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] & [name_u]Jude[/name_u] are awesome, love the suggestion of putting them together!
We love [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] too & can’t use it for similar reasons (last name starts with S). I think [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Tys0n actually works though & has a great ring to it, but completely understand if you want to avoid this.
If you are unsure about [name_m]Simon[/name_m] with your last name, could you use [name_m]Simeon[/name_m]?
If [name_m]John[/name_m] is not an option, could you use [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]?
Also, would [name_u]Luca[/name_u] or [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] be different enough from your DH brother? I really love this one too. If you used [name_m]Luke[/name_m], would your brother consider it an honor, or would it just get confusing?
If you are avoiding [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] because of the ‘ew’ ending, could you use a variation? Ie [name_m]Mathieu[/name_m], [name_m]Matteo[/name_m], Mattei, [name_m]Matyas[/name_m]?
No worries if you’re not interested in variations
In terms of OT names, [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]David[/name_m], [name_m]Eli[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] or [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] would work.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] & [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], hope this helps
[name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]/[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]
[name_m]Simeon[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_m]Zebedee[/name_m]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] (probably seen as more Old Testament, but [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Judas[/name_m]… they were all forms of the same name, and [name_m]Judah[/name_m]'s my favorite form)
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Gaius[/name_m]
[name_m]Demetrius[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
Aristarchus (ha! So totally unusable, but such a fun name, too. I find the names of the early [name_m]Christian[/name_m] church really fascinating and cool)
I’m sure there are a lot of other really great ones, but those are the ones I can think of off-hand.
I hadn’t even noticed that [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] share an ending sound. I ruled [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] out years ago because I find [name_m]Matt[/name_m] and [name_m]Mark[/name_m] way too close. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] probably should go on my long list. I do love the namesake. But, [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] leaves me a bit cold.
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is great and very likely would be my [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] combo.
You are going to get me crushing on [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] again. Not only is it my favorite boy’s name but my husband’s as well. [name_m]How[/name_m] ironic to agree 100% on a favorite and not feel like you can use it.
Hubby is [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] which makes [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] feel weird. (It also rules out [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]). [name_m]John[/name_m] is my nephew and my FIL. It’s not off the table but probably a trickier choice. It’d be better to find another name to fall in love with.
I like some of the OT names you mentioned but some are too close to my other kids: [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] and [name_u]Clare[/name_u], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u], and even [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Sam[/name_u].
[name_u]Ash[/name_u]: I’ll put [name_m]Peter[/name_m] back on my long list.
I normally stick to the non-[name_m]New[/name_m] Testament Biblical side of things, but my favourite NT names are: [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Zachary[/name_m], [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], and [name_m]John[/name_m].
If [name_m]John[/name_m] is out and [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]/[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] are out, I’m rather fond of [name_m]Joel[/name_m] and [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], but they are not [name_m]New[/name_m].
