There are A LOT of names that would be considered guilty pleasures for people. My choice or taste in names would be names most people would not dare to name an actual child. I write a lot of books and naming characters is my favorite thing to do. Below is my list of guilty pleasures. What are some of your own?
For me, these are names I’d consider too “out there” to actually use in real life. Too much name, I guess. Also, names my husband and family would be embarrassed to tell others! I don’t have my list with me at the moment, but my GP names are mostly nature names ([name]Amaryllis[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name], etc). I’ll edit later on when I’ve got my list in front of me!
I have quite a few gulity pleasure names, some of them are:
Girls
[name]Rapunzel[/name]
Kella - I love this name, but everyone would say do you mean [name]Kelly[/name]?
[name]Sparrow[/name] - I love the way this one sounds, but it would have to be a nn b/c it just doesn’t sound good for when she would be looking for a job!
Boys
[name]Darcy[/name] - This is a boy’s name, but unfortunatley where I live it is a “girl” name, so I wouldn’t do this to a boy.
Then, I have guilty pleasure names that are gorgeous and work in real life but don’t work with our last name:
Would consider most of these as middle names though! My favourite combo right now is actually [name]Arlo[/name] [name]Sailor[/name] with the NN [name]Sailor[/name]… I love it.

I’m from [name]Brazil[/name] (yet lived for a while in the uk), thus all the names that are properly english are guilty pleasures for me. I would never give my child names that would be butchered in prn here, and I feel it’s kind of chavy and down-market to give your child foreign names with a very brazilian surname. My surnames are brazilian and czech, what would make things even worse ahaha. Besides, we dont give middle names unless we want both names to be used. My daughters will be [name]Clara[/name], [name]Beatriz[/name], [name]Vivian[/name], [name]Alice[/name] or [name]Antonia[/name], and my son will be [name]Tomas[/name], names that are simple and very easily understood in several languages. So, my ultimate GP list is:
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] (nn [name]Mina[/name], like in Dracula, though. I dislike [name]Willa[/name])
[name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Talula[/name]
[name]Anais[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Elora[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]
[name]Niamh[/name]
[name]Evie[/name]
[name]Oona[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Sutton[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Philippa[/name] (though i like brazilian verson [name]Felipa[/name] as well)
[name]Zoe[/name]
[name]Emma[/name]
[name]Madeline[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Caitlin[/name] (prn coitlin, love it!)
Nola
Basically, everything in nameberry is a guilty pleasure for me haha.
Boys: [name]Armand[/name], [name]Bennett[/name], [name]Fielder[/name], [name]Hunter[/name] (although I am getting over it), [name]Jensen[/name], [name]October[/name] nn [name]Toby[/name], [name]Milton[/name], [name]Murray[/name], [name]Lorenzo[/name], [name]Valentine[/name]/o, [name]November[/name]
I only picked the most out there names, but most of the names on my list I would never use due to incredibly judgmental family.
Well if I really loved a name then I’d use it but I still have a few that I like but wouldn’t use.
Boys:
[name]Fox[/name] - As a first name. We think its a little to ‘[name]Foxy[/name]’ as a first name. We used it for our sons middle name though and he loves it! When we introduce him to people he makes sure to tell them that his middle name is [name]Fox[/name]!
[name]Bear[/name] - We love it but think it’s a little to much. Cute for a little boy and manly for a guy but we’re still unsure whether it’s a substantial name. We love [name]Auberon[/name] or [name]Oberon[/name] with the nickname [name]Bear[/name] though!
[name]Oliver[/name] - Too popular and my nephew is [name]Oliver[/name] and my friend’s daughter is [name]Olive[/name].
[name]Maddox[/name] - Too celeb baby but I really like it!
Girls:
Novalee - It looks really trendy but I love the sound of it and think it’s just beautiful. [name]Novella[/name] is another favourite which we would use, though.
[name]Starla[/name] - I think its really beautiful and the NN [name]Star[/name] is adorable, but a lot of people label it as a ‘stripper name’ which I’m sure some people would disagree with but I also have an Aunt [name]Kayla[/name] and a cousin [name]Layla[/name] so we think it’s a little close.
I didn’t expect so many people to keep posting! Wow. I love all these new and fresh names.
fern_d: In your signature, I see your children’s names and most of them would be quilty pleasure names for me. For example, [name]Astoria[/name] [name]Lark[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name] Luelle is so out there, but BEAUTIFUL. It’s good to see how you and your husband put creativity into naming. [name]Love[/name] it!
I only really have one which is [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] (all one name), I especially love that all the names are from fictional characters.
