When you think of the name [name]Moses[/name], what is your first thought? I actually really like it, but I don’t know if I’m brave enough to use it. My top three boy name list right now is [name]Moses[/name], [name]Abel[/name], and [name]Amos[/name]. So, what are your thoughts?
I really like it, but it’s just too biblical for me (I don’t think of myself as Atheist, yet I don’t have traditional [name]Christian[/name] beliefs). I would automatically assume he was from a very [name]Christian[/name] family.
[name]Amos[/name] is actually growing on me a lot, and [name]Abel[/name] isn’t one I’ve thought about much, but I do like it. Because they’re lesser-known biblical names, I would be more comfortable using them personally.
The Biblical image I get from it is simply overpowering for me, as a now lapsed Catholic. Similar names to the three you list:
[name]Absalom[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Amador[/name]
[name]Ambrose[/name]
[name]Amedee[/name]
[name]Amias[/name]
[name]Aramis[/name]
Amram
Amun
[name]Eamon[/name]
[name]Evan[/name]
[name]Oswin[/name]
Osee
I’m a fan. I think it would carry well into adulthood, and though I like [name]Abel[/name] and [name]Amos[/name], both carry some negative connotations for me. Not so much that I think they shouldn’t be used, but [name]Abel[/name] was murdered, and [name]Amos[/name] makes me think of the very racist radio show “[name]Amos[/name] and [name]Andy[/name].”
I’ve loved [name]Moses[/name] for the longest time. I know of a new baby named [name]Moses[/name].
I love the name [name]Moses[/name]. It’s quirky but recognizable, and I love the connection to the Bible. It’s been on and off my list (I have a HUGE list for boys). After [name]Moses[/name], I like [name]Amos[/name], then [name]Able[/name].
I’ve never met a [name]Moses[/name]/[name]Moshe[/name] who wasn’t Jewish, so I can’t imagine a non-Jewish kid with this name. [name]Moshe[/name] is the Hebrew version, and of course, there’s always the nn [name]Moss[/name], as in [name]Moss[/name] [name]Hart[/name], the composer…I just think [name]Moses[/name] is a hard act to follow. I feel that way about his sister [name]Miriam[/name]'s name too. A lot to put on a child in terms of expectations, especially when you’re Jewish. Probably not so much if you’re not.
I think it’s usable, I know someone who named her child [name]Moses[/name].
I like the name [name]Moses[/name]. I think it’s usable. Also, the names [name]Amos[/name] and [name]Abel[/name] are very handsome. I like your style.
I think [name]Moses[/name] is very usable and would love to meet a little guy named [name]Moses[/name].
[name]Moses[/name] is a very biblical name, so unless you are religious, I would avoid it, or else you might end up offending a religion…
Other than that, I think it’s usable and fine, as long as you are religious
It’s too over-the-top Biblical for me also. I far prefer [name]Moishe[/name] for its soft unusual sound and the fact that (in English, at least) it doesn’t beat the general public over the head with a very obvious Biblical association. I can’t say I recommend it as a baby name for someone without a Jewish background, but it sounds nice.
[name]Moses[/name] is really cool! You’d have to be brave , but I think it’s usable!
I love [name]Moses[/name]. It’s definitely my fave boys name. And I actually met a grown (mid 20’s) man at church with the name recently and I was so excited to hear it on a person.
I don’t think [name]Moses[/name] is [name]OTT[/name] at all. I feel that it is underused but still as recognisable as [name]Noah[/name] so I think it is a good choice. I also like [name]Amos[/name].
rollo
I think [name]Moses[/name] is actually totally hipster in a so-far-out-it’s-in kind of way; same category as [name]Martha[/name], [name]Ethel[/name], etc.
I actually really like it!
It’s definitely religious, but I can totally see it being used in my little hipster community.
I think it’s ripe for a jump in popularity.
I love it, I thinks it’s usable and personally I don’t think it’s over the top!
The first thing I think about is [name_m]Moses[/name_m] from the bible. I think the name is usable, and it kinda grows on you. But not being religious, I wouldn’t probably wouldn’t use the name, because I would think that they were from a very religious family.
I’m not too fond of the name [name_m]Able[/name_m], but I do like it.
As for the name “[name_m]Amos[/name_m]”, it’s my (much) older cousin’s name, but I was never very fond of it.
Completely usable. In fact, it’s pretty common among Hispanics. I know three personally.
